Chapter 516 Belongs to My Family
by 猫狸Chapter 516: One of Mine
In the overly quiet atmosphere of the bus, Milly finally couldn't contain the question in her heart. Clearing her throat softly, she asked in a low voice, "Mr. Su, how did you become an Ability User? Is there a chance for people like us... to become Ability Users too?" Her voice, though not loud, was exceptionally clear in the silent compartment, each word like a small stone dropped on water, sending ripples outward.
Feng Yan, who had been leaning against the seatback, shifted slightly forward, his gaze carrying a hint of curiosity as he also looked toward Su Bai in the back seat.
Su Bai tilted his head slightly, a faint, elusive smile curling at the corner of his lips, but the smile didn't reach his eyes.
He said softly, "That wasn't a pleasant experience."
Feng Yan frowned slightly, seemingly unable to glean more information from Su Bai's answer. But Milly looked utterly anxious, her hands clenched slightly, sitting up straight, her gaze almost pleading as she looked at Su Bai.
Su Bai noticed her expression but still didn't rush to explain. Instead, his gaze swept over the faces of the other passengers in the compartment. What he saw were eyes filled with anticipation.
Su Bai let out a soft sigh, folded his hands on his knees, and looked down at his slender fingers, as if weighing how to answer.
"Gaining so-called 'special abilities'..." He paused, then looked up at the faces reflected in the bus window. "Why not try joining a Special Operations Team first? The people there probably often come into contact with Ability Users... Plus, you've had encounters with Eerie Entities. That experience already gives you a leg up over most people."
After saying this, Su Bai leaned back against the seatback, his gaze sweeping over everyone's faces with a touch of "answer completed" detachment.
However, his words clearly didn't bring much comfort to the group. The burly man in the back row lowered his head, fiddling with his thick knuckles, muttering self-deprecatingly under his breath, "If we can get out of this damn bus alive..." His voice was low but loud enough for everyone to hear, instantly pushing the oppressive atmosphere down another notch.
The compartment fell silent again, with only the rumble of the bus engine and the low hum of tires on the asphalt echoing in their ears. Su Bai glanced down at the new phone Qin Ge had just given him. The time on the screen was a jumbled mess of flickering characters, as if the entire phone had been sucked into this eerie bus, its connection to the outside world completely severed.
He casually locked the screen and looked out the window. The glass only reflected the dim, faint yellow light inside the compartment. The scenery outside was pitch-black, shrouded in a thick layer of fog. It seemed this bus wasn't traveling on a real-world road but drifting through some indefinable rift.
"What exactly are we waiting for?" A slightly weary voice broke the silence. Zhen Youbing had come around a bit, though his eyes still held a trace of confusion and exhaustion as he turned to look at his girlfriend, Ren Qingqing.
Ren Qingqing gently patted his arm, her tone soft. "You missed some things while you were unconscious... It's okay, it'll be over soon."
She filled him in on some of the information he had missed and forced a comforting smile, adding, "Just wait a little longer. The bus will slow down like before and stop at the station. The last passenger Mr. Su contacted... will get on..."
*BANG—!*
Before she could finish, the compartment jolted violently with a loud *BANG*, as if the bus had hit something. The massive impact shook everyone. Along with the sound, the lights inside flickered on and off, as if the current was being disrupted.
The entire bus even seemed forced to a stop by this impact!
Immediately after, *CLANG—* the door was ripped open with a screech of metal grinding against metal that echoed through the compartment. A tall, slender figure shrouded in black suddenly appeared before everyone.
This figure was half a head taller than Su Bai and was enveloped in a strange black robe. Though the clothing was loose, it couldn't hide the figure's tall, slender build. However, the newcomer's steps were incredibly light, his footfalls nearly silent, as if such a tall person had no weight at all.
Everyone in the compartment was stunned—not just because of the loud crash moments before, but also because the appearance of this "new passenger" was far too bizarre. All eyes were fixed on him, but no one dared make a move.
Even stranger, the "new passenger's" head seemed to wobble oddly as he walked, swaying slightly, as if his neck wasn't completely fixed.
Just as this absurd thought crossed everyone's minds, something even more unbelievable happened before their eyes—
*Thud!*
The "new passenger's" head fell directly from his neck, hitting the floor with a dull thud. The sound wasn't the muffled thump of flesh hitting the ground but more like a hollow plastic ball dropping onto the floor!
"Ah—!" Screams erupted almost simultaneously. Every passenger still conscious was terrified out of their wits by this sight.
"Everyone, no need to be nervous." Su Bai said as he stood up, his tone so calm it was as if the horrifying scene moments ago had never happened. Then he rose from his middle seat, walked step by step to the side of the "new passenger," and, with a smile, bent down to pick up the fallen head. He casually lifted it and reattached it to the other's neck.
"He's with me."
"This should be your face now, right?" Under the stunned gazes of everyone, Su Bai carefully helped the "new passenger" adjust his head, then gently ran his hands over those cheeks, his tone carrying a hint of helplessness.
The face Su Bai was gently touching had hints of Yao and Xiao Wu.
As part of this Ghost Witch Lord, certain traits of Yao and Xiao Wu naturally carried over. However, Yao's appearance was youthful, looking no more than eleven or twelve, while Xiao Wu seemed like a boy of seven or eight, still childish. Yet the face now before Su Bai possessed a mature, handsome beauty completely different from theirs, as if carved by time, with sharp features that were captivating.
Su Bai's fingers lightly traced the face, his fingertips meeting a cool touch, but it wasn't unpleasant. As he met the gaze of this unfamiliar yet familiar face, a strange feeling rose in his heart. Even though this was the first time he was seeing Wu Hang's face like this, he couldn't feel even the slightest bit of unfamiliarity or distance.
In fact, he vaguely felt that his familiarity with this face didn't come entirely from the traces of Yao and Xiao Wu, but rather... in the past, some distant past, he seemed to have already seen this face. That feeling was buried deep in his memory, vague and elusive, yet so real it was unsettling.
"You... did you all see that just now? That head clearly fell off!"
In the compartment, the office worker's voice broke the eerie silence. His face was pale, his eyes flickering with intense fear. He almost uncontrollably turned to the person beside him for confirmation. His voice trembled slightly with panic, his words coming fast, as if afraid he might forget what he'd just seen the next second.
In the compartment, the lights still flickered on and off, the shifting illumination falling on the two figures. Su Bai was tall and slender, refined and exquisite, while Wu Hang's face carried a mature, handsome beauty starkly different from his. At this moment, the two stood side by side, like a silent painting. Even standing in this eerie No. 666 bus, there was an undeniable sense of harmony.
However, the passengers were in no state to appreciate this aesthetically pleasing scene. Every face was etched with terror, especially after witnessing Wu Hang's head fall off firsthand. Their gazes shifted between Su Bai and Wu Hang, filled with confusion, unease, and an indescribable fear.
Why... did Su Bai say that person was *with* him?
