Chapter 652 Descending into Chaos

Red Moon Association.
An organization of eerie entities that foresaw a future point in time when the Red Moon, which sustains the life of the entire world, would fall, leading to the instant annihilation of the whole world.
The eerie entities that had received the prophecy proposed three paths—
The first was to simply turn to ashes with the destruction of the world.
The second was to abandon this world, seek help from the one at Mist Mountain, and open a passage to live in another world. But because other worlds could not accommodate so much power from the Red Moon, the once powerful eerie entities would have to live as the puniest, most ordinary critters in that world, stripped of their power.
The third was to do everything possible to prevent the fall of the Red Moon.
In the end, they went with option three. Even though the time of this world was constantly reset, they were unwilling to abandon their power and preferred to eke out a miserable existence.
They chose the underground of the Man-Faced Forest as their laboratory and stronghold. The already treacherous Man-Faced Forest, after absorbing power over the long years, became a perilous place even they themselves wouldn't dare set foot in it casually.
Although the most suitable experimental subjects, the merfolk, had been exhausted, thankfully, they found humans from another world who, though not as suitable, could still barely travel through the Void Sea.
These humans were not as strong as the merfolk, nor did they possess the special powers of the merfolk, but the uniqueness of humans lay in their unpredictable potential.
The instant humans were bathed in the Red Moon's light, their originally powerless and frail bodies could gain special powers, and this power grew way faster than it did in the eerie entities walking under the Red Moon.
Most importantly, the human body was even more suitable than the Remnants for containing the power of the Red Moon, but humans never volunteered for it.
If humans were directly thrown into the Nightmare World from the start, all that fear, panic, and despair the eerie entities thought was worthless might cause the experimental subjects to die before they matured.
So they created some "cages," or as they'd call them, "cradles" to nurture the growth of the experimental subjects, allowing them to mature relatively "safely" and grow at a faster pace.
However, in this process, some experimental subjects still died.
At first, they were troubled by this, but in the end, they shrugged it off and chose to abandon the useless experimental subjects. "Fortunately," the human race from another world was incredibly numerous. Even if some experimental subjects failed, the survivors were far more promising than the merfolk, who were few and far between.
The entire Red Moon Association figured their experiment would just keep rolling along.
But the "umbilical cord" used to nurture the experimental subjects—or the "system" as humans called it—suddenly stopped working. A large number of experimental subjects abruptly left the Nightmare World, and the experiment, which was meant to keep churning with new test subjects, ground to a halt!
The head researcher rushed into the secret chamber where the "umbilical cord" and the "fish" were kept, only to find that the "fish," which they had regarded as a mindless tool, had ripped the "umbilical cord" out on its own. The disappearance of the experimental subjects must also be related to the "fish"!
All those long years, the "fish" had held onto the last shred of its consciousness!
And they had known nothing about it!
「Restart! Do it now!」
「Restart will still take some time!」
「Damn merfolk, can't do anything right, only mess things up!」
「……」
In the stronghold beneath the Man-Faced Forest, the eerie entities of the Red Moon Association were thrown into chaos due to the shutdown of the "umbilical cord" and "system," oblivious to the earth-shattering changes happening outside.
And the anchor point they planned to search for and create in the Void Sea over the next ten to twenty years by constantly burning through human test subjects…
At this very moment, across the fragmented pieces of the Nightmare World, it had become a sun that was just rising.
