Chapter 629 “Fish”
by 猫狸"Click."
A soft click broke the brief silence. Wu Hang stopped, slowly letting go of the person in his arms. He glanced down at Su Bai, a rare hint of awkwardness flickering across his face.
"Neck—" The puppet's pale face wore a stiff expression, as if struggling to maintain composure.
Su Bai clearly hadn't fully come back from that overly deep kiss just moments ago. He froze for a couple seconds before belatedly realizing that the sound had come from Wu Hang's neck—the joint in his puppet neck had come loose.
His mood shifted from lost in the moment to clear-headed in an instant. The initial thrill and desire in his heart quickly turned into concern for his lover.
Still, despite his concern, Su Bai didn't rush to fix his neck. Instead, he leaned deeper into Wu Hang's arms, lowered his head, his shoulders shaking as he couldn't help but laugh.
Once he'd had his laugh, he reached out, gently cupping Wu Hang's chin, and carefully tilted his head back into place, the motion both gentle and practiced.
Wu Hang stood there, motionless, just lowering his eyelids with a rare look of defeat on his face.
"There, all fixed." Su Bai looked at his expression, the amusement in his eyes growing more pronounced. He leaned in and gave Wu Hang a light kiss on the lips, like a reward.
"Let's handle the problem at hand first." Seeing Wu Hang's expression shift from sour to sweet, Su Bai turned and walked out of the dormitory.
"And then?" Wu Hang followed close behind Su Bai, his voice laced with laughter, as if fishing for the sweet words his lover hadn't finished saying.
"Nothing after that." Su Bai didn't look back, but his tone carried a faint hint of pleasure, the corners of his mouth lifting without him realizing it.
He didn't deny what Wu Hang said; he just didn't go on.
But that smile quickly faded, and his expression went back to its usual calm.
He liked where things were between him and Wu Hang—the unspoken understanding, the easy closeness in everyday life—it all made Su Bai feel at ease.
But as much as he liked it, they both knew this peace wouldn't last.
On the surface, they could still joke around, smile, and get close, but deep down, they knew a sharp, undeniable sword of Damocles was hanging over their heads.
That wasn't just some dramatic metaphor; it was a real crisis.
He cared, Wu Hang cared, Su Xuan cared, the opposition cared, and even the human players were getting ready in their own ways for what was coming.
Su Bai could feel a war coming.
And in this war, no one could sit it out.
"Chi Liu's already on his way." Wu Hang's voice came from behind, as if he could read Su Bai's thoughts. "The Relayer said he's super excited. When he gets here, he might tear this whole building down."
"That's a good thing. Finally, a game scene I won't be the one to wreck." Su Bai clearly remembered the times he'd smashed through game scenes, making the game end early.
"That Relayer... does he have a name?" Su Bai knew the Relayer Wu Hang mentioned was that weird Mr. Administrator, a key piece the opposition left behind in the Red Moon Association.
"Under the red moon, 'information' and 'communication' have real power. Even in the Red Moon Association, there are people who can sense that kind of thing. This isn't a space Su Xuan built. If your power doesn't exceed that level, it's easy to detect. That's why there's still a lot you can't know yet."
Wu Hang paused, then added, "But you can call him 'Fish.' I mean, technically, he's the last surviving member of the Mermaid Remnants in this world."
"Don't worry. When it's time for you to know, you'll get all the info." Wu Hang gave his assurance.
"I trust you." Su Bai said without hesitation.
The two of them made their way back to the 44th floor's Special Comprehensive Department, one after the other. Only then did Su Bai realize with some surprise that the players who had completed their tasks hadn't yet entered their dreams.
Logically, it was already very late when Su Bai returned to the 44th floor. Adding the time spent in "Rain Locust City," it should have been time for dreams.
"The reason the space created by the Dream Builder can shield against the Red Moon Association's prying is twofold: first, it's an independent space; second, Su Xuan controlled the flow of time there, creating a difference in speed from the outside world. This dual misalignment of space and time makes it extremely hidden."
Wu Hang leaned close to Su Bai's ear, explaining why the time in the building was slower than in "Rain Locust City." Su Bai instinctively leaned back, falling into the arms of the person behind him.
To others, this gesture seemed almost overly affectionate.
Wu Hang didn't react much, simply reaching out to gently support Su Bai's waist, a move that made it clear they were long accustomed to each other.
To the other players, this scene appeared... a bit too intimate.
Everyone had long known that Wu Hang and Su Bai were close, their unspoken bond evident since the first day of the instance. But before, they had been more reserved, their feelings hidden in their eyes, rarely showing such direct actions—more like shy, newly-in-love young couple on campus.
Now, Wu Hang and Su Bai seemed to have crossed another threshold, taking a step forward, drawing even closer, even giving off a newlywed's sense of clinginess.
Wen Ya, the actress who had always been intrigued by Wu Hang and Su Bai's relationship, stared at them with a smile that seemed to savor something.
"Su... Su-ge looks in good spirits." Xiong Yi, the big man who had been flattering Pei Zhan, now approached Su Bai with a sycophantic smile. "I didn't expect Su-ge to be a summoner."
Because of the time difference between "Rain Locust City" and the building, the players were still shocked that the ghost bride had been summoned by Su Bai.
"I haven't seen Mr. Su and Mr. Wu's names on the leaderboard." On the other side, Pei Zhan couldn't help but speak up. He wiped his sword as he probed, "You two... you're not from the Nameless Society, are you?"
"We have nothing to do with the Nameless Society." Su Bai shook his head. In this life, his only connection to the Nameless Society was his acquaintance with Feng Ling.
"Mr. Su, could you tell us what else you encountered with Shen... Shen Guanlan during the mission?" Chu Qianren, from the relevant authorities, had already set aside Shen Guanlan's remains. "Shen Guanlan mentioned you were attacked by Eerie Entities. I just examined her wounds. If those wounds were the work of that entity, we might..."
Chu Qianren had clearly noticed the terrifying wounds left by the Vampire Remnants on Shen Guanlan and sensed the horrifying attack methods of the Vampire Remnants.
"That was—"
Just as Su Bai was about to explain the situation on the 66th floor, a loud crash suddenly came from the direction of the elevator shaft.
The noise startled the players, as they could tell it wasn't from the 44th floor but from much lower in the building.
Yet the tremors from the lower floors shook the ground beneath their feet—just how massive was that commotion?!
"It's Chi Liu." Wu Hang whispered into Su Bai's ear.
