Chapter 559 United Effort
by 猫狸Chapter 559: Joint Effort
The heavy cleaver finally came to rest in Xiang Feiyu's hands. The blade still carried the electric glow Tian Yue had just infused it with, faint crackling arcs skittering along the edge, illuminating his youthful yet resolute expression.
Xu Rui stood to the side, his hands gently raised, his gaze focused intently on Xiang Feiyu as he enhanced Xiang Feiyu's physical ability.
Feng Xuelan, meanwhile, hardened the cleaver in Xiang Feiyu's grip and did her best to weaken the resilience of the withered branch. She had no idea just how hard these branches were, but for players in the Nightmare World, everything ahead was unknown. All they could ever do was give their all.
Tian Yue's condition seemed somewhat drained. Using her power three times in a short period wasn't an easy feat for an ordinary player.
Yet, gritting her teeth, she once again channeled her power, causing stronger arcs of electricity to creep over the blade.
Although this cleaver wasn't a modified weapon from the Special Operations Group, it seemed to possess some unique material innately, allowing the electric current to adhere to it smoothly. The crackling sound it produced was no less impressive than that of her modified dagger.
However, during the time they were making their preparations, the nurse who had been pinned in place by Tian Yue's dagger had soundlessly backed away. Her movements were stiff and sluggish, as if constrained by some rule, as she silently backed towards the wall. The fading of the electricity didn't cause her to launch a sudden attack; instead, she retreated to a position against the wall, just like the other nurses.
"It's time for me to run a test," Chi Yan's voice suddenly rang out. His gaze darkened slightly as he slowly raised his hand, palm extended towards the nurse retreating to the wall. "My ability should be able to prevent this thing from retreating back."
After a period of charging, the nurse's backward movement became sluggish, as if bound by an invisible rope. Her original movement gradually became jerky, even freezing completely for a few seconds.
Listening to Le Shiya's description, Su Bai knew that Chi Yan had used his ability.
Back at the Joy Hotel, Su Bai had witnessed that his ability was more adept at controlling human actions. However, when facing Eerie Entities, he could still influence them, though the degree and duration were uncertain. Moreover, his ability required a certain charging time and couldn't react swiftly in sudden situations, which was one of its limitations.
But for now, it was sufficient.
However, Su Bai suddenly realized a problem—it seemed that, apart from himself and Jie Ying, all the other players had more or less demonstrated their abilities.
Jie Ying... she was the one who initially proposed the self-introductions, yet to this day, she hadn't mentioned a word about her own ability, nor had she revealed any related information.
"Then I'll begin!"
Xiang Feiyu took a deep breath, his fingers gripping the hilt tightly, his knuckles turning slightly white. On his somewhat youthful face, a rare look of serious focus settled. His entire body tensed as he abruptly raised the cleaver in his hands and swung it down with all his might towards the withered branch!
"Thud!"
A dull, heavy sound echoed as the cleaver slammed into the branch, the blade embedding itself deeply within.
The sound of this strike was heavier than before because the blade had forcefully cut into the branch, reaching a depth of about one-third!
Without a moment's hesitation, Xiang Feiyu pressed his advantage, delivering two more consecutive swings!
The moment the third strike landed heavily, a deafening roar reverberated throughout the corridor.
"Bang!"
The blade slammed hard onto the solid floor!
The withered branch—snapped cleanly in two!
...
There was no wail, no bizarre contortion, not a hint of struggle. The nurse who had been controlled by the branch instantly turned into formless dust, silently dispersing in the corridor as if she had never existed. If everyone hadn't been staring intently at the nurse, they probably wouldn't have even noticed her disappearance.
Simultaneously, the severed branches seemed pulled by some force, retracting into the wall at an astonishing speed, vanishing without a trace.
Before everyone could fully comprehend what had just happened and think to peer through the hole in the wall to see what was hidden inside, the entire hole began to repair itself at a completely illogical speed!
The wall returned to its original state, not even a single crack remaining, as if nothing had ever happened.
As for Xiang Feiyu, who had just been swinging the cleaver to sever the branch, he staggered back several steps the next moment! His hand suddenly went slack, and the cleaver slipped from his fingers, crashing heavily onto the cold floor.
"Tsk..." He frowned, looking down at his palm, which was already red, numb, and trembling slightly from the impact.
"Damn it, is the floor even harder than that branch?" Xiang Feiyu muttered a complaint under his breath, his tone laced with unwillingness and surprise.
"After all, this is Hospital 666," Su Bai remarked, not particularly surprised. But if even the corridor floor couldn't be damaged, then they couldn't escape by smashing through it like they did at the Joy Hotel.
"The problem with those branches is still significant," Jie Ying said after a moment of silence, suddenly frowning. Her gaze swept calmly over the group. "If every time we encounter such a branch, it requires the combined full effort of all of us just to land three strikes, then in more dangerous battles later on, we will still be in a bind."
