Chapter 573 Iterating Civilizations
by 猫狸Chapter 573: Iterative Civilizations
"Would you mind proving just how safe this place is?"
Su Bai, surrounded by the Blood Vines, asked the unknown Eerie Entities observing them.
"Humans who have been here before said that you have seen the azure sky, lands covered in green grass and flowers, clear lakes, and beautiful seas reflecting the color of the heavens. In your world, new life is born every day, and between people, there exists precious kinship, friendship, and love..."
"It" did not directly answer Su Bai but suddenly began muttering to itself.
As the murmuring tone turned gentle once more, through the blood butterflies' senses, Su Bai saw a humanoid figure in a nurse's uniform emerging from a crack in the wall. Perhaps because "its" power could not affect the blood butterflies, which had little consciousness and no intelligence, what Su Bai "saw" was just a faceless humanoid shape.
"Do you know? This place was once so beautiful too."
"How is that possible!" Chi Yan couldn't hide his shock even when lowering his voice. "A hellish place like this..."
"This was once a beautiful and resilient world. Even when the entire world collapsed and shattered, new green sprouts would grow again in the crevices of the ruins of civilization. New life would once again bring new vitality, and new civilizations would be nurtured once more with the passage of time."
"Civilizations were born one after another, and civilizations collapsed and shattered one after another. This world is already covered in scars. Humans, if you have ever seen the world outside, you would know that the land out there can no longer nurture any new life. The vitality of the entire world has been exhausted. The entire world is moving in opposition to 'life,' marching toward death."
"Even more terrifying is that death is not the end of this world... What comes after death is an even more dreadful world, a world belonging to the eerie."
As "it" spoke, Chi Yan and Jie Ying, hearing this, showed expressions of disbelief. Le Shiya was also shocked but struggled to relay "its" words to Jie Ying.
Su Bai could understand their shock. At this time, most players were trapped in sealed-off nightmare games, knowing very little about other places under the red moon and had not yet found that library which held the records of bygone civilizations.
Therefore, in the eyes of human players, the Nightmare World was nothing but hell, without a past or a future.
Even though they had seen modern scenes in the Nightmare World similar to the real world, seen villages decades, even a century, behind the modern era, seen Western-style castles completely different from Eastern urban architecture, seen scenes that would only appear in period dramas, and even seen forests, wilderness, and desolate seas of blood...
No one would think that these different scenes might come from civilizations of different periods. If not for the wise scholars in the future tirelessly deciphering the textual records left in the mysterious library, even Su Bai in his previous life would have found such a fact hard to imagine.
"'Deep Dive's' three members were also seduced gradually like this, right?" Su Bai's words sounded like a soliloquy. "Those three had an obsessive desire to explore the truth, and they happened to encounter an eerie entity that knew the truth of the Nightmare World inside out."
"So, the current Nightmare World can be said to be a world that has already died. If you truly wish for our safety, you should let us leave this place." Su Bai raised his voice, steering the conversation back on track.
"What's the point of leaving? After some time, you will return here again, and by then you will fall into the hands of even more ferocious eerie entities."
"Rather than that, it's better to stay here."
"No, for you to survive, you must stay here."
Su Bai couldn't quite follow "its" train of thought for a moment.
"I no longer remember how many years ago it was, but there was once a small village on this land." "It" changed the subject again, beginning its narration in a gentle tone. "It was a special village because the villagers' bodies could not conceive life. However, as long as they went to pray under the big tree in the village, the tree would bear special fruits, within which new life would gestate, arriving in response to the villagers' prayers."
"The villagers called that tree—the Life Mother Tree."
