Chapter 487 Blood Moon Lake
by 猫狸Chapter 487: Blood Moon Lake
"You seem somewhat regretful." Su Bai raised a brow slightly, looking at Feng Ling beside him. Huo Lang and the others had found a new way to clear the level, which should be considered good news, yet Feng Ling's expression was hard for him to read—that hint of regret didn't seem born of frustration, but more like a sense of anticipation that went unfulfilled. "Is it because the method you originally planned to use wasn't needed?"
Feng Ling didn't respond immediately. A meaningful smile curled at the corner of her lips as her gaze lingered on Su Bai's face for a moment, as if weighing something.
"Not necessarily," she said softly. "Don't forget what you said yourself: the outward calm of Blood Moon Lake Villa exists because it's occupied by a powerful sinister force. This means every single move within this territory is under the director's control. Every word we 'clever' players utter has likely already fallen into his ears."
Having experienced too many nightmare games, Feng Ling was well-versed in the warped sense of humor and methods of toying with people's minds of those Eerie Entities. They enjoyed watching players turn on each other and struggle desperately, like watching a farcical tragedy.
Feng Ling glanced up at the Blood Moon Lake outside the villa and continued, "So, in such a situation, would that director just stand by idly? He'll probably do something to obstruct our plans."
Su Bai sank into thought, his gaze lowering, eyes deep and contemplative.
"Perhaps this time will be somewhat different," Su Bai spoke up. "If his goal from the start was to prevent all players from clearing the game, then indeed, as you said, he would keep increasing the difficulty. But maybe his true purpose is simply to watch an interesting show. After all, some eerie entities just get their kicks from humans."
"If his goal truly is a good show, then he must also be anticipating that we can deliver some performance that exceeds the script."
Hearing this, Feng Ling let out a soft, derisive snort, tinged with a hint of acknowledgment. Su Bai's speculation wasn't without reason—if that director craved to see an unconventional drama, he might very well, like them, be looking forward to how ordinary players would struggle for survival in a desperate situation.
Over on the sofa in the hall, Huo Lang and the others quickly settled on a preliminary plan, deciding not to linger inside the villa. After all, in the memories forcibly implanted in their minds, yesterday's entire audition activity consisted of arguments and scuffles within the villa.
So they decided to make full use of the game's setting. The first step was to move the script's location outdoors.
Led by Huo Lang, the group quickly left the villa and headed towards the Blood Moon Lake.
The gardener, the maid, and even the grandfather who had been sitting motionless all this time "condescended" to follow Huo Lang and the others to the lakeside.
The mist by the lake was much thinner than before, no longer so dense, as if even the environment was signaling the game's proper commencement. Through the thin fog, the hazy outlines in the distance could be faintly seen. The lake surface was calm and waveless, like a giant silver mirror reflecting the blurred blood moon in the sky.
Ning Yi stood by the lake, looking up at this body of water. Outwardly, she appeared delicate, with the aura of a pure, innocent female lead, but in reality, she was an underwater adventurer and thrill-seeker who loved to push the envelope—she had performed as a mermaid in an aquarium, even enjoyed diving in icy, deep seas, an enthusiast for extreme underwater challenges.
So, although Huo Lang had repeatedly vetoed the initial idea, hoping Ning Yi wouldn't rashly enter the water and suggesting they choose safer methods, Ning Yi herself clearly liked the suggestion very much. In the end, she actively volunteered to give it a try. As she approached the Blood Moon Lake, her eyes even held a flicker of excitement.
As Ning Yi neared the lake, crouching down to test the water temperature and planning to explore the underwater environment before the activity began, a calm voice sounded behind her—
"If I were you, I wouldn't go into the water."
Su Bai's voice was unhurried, yet it rang in Ning Yi's ears like a warning bell.
Ning Yi turned her head and saw Su Bai standing quietly not far away, his gaze as calm and deep as the mirror-like lake, with an inscrutable calm. His expression was placid, yet he seemed like an observer who had discerned all potential dangers.
"Brother Su, any method is worth trying now. We have no extra chances left," Huo Lang sighed. Although he was equally worried about Ning Yi's safety, he also knew they were past the point of no return.
"And Ning Yi really is exceptionally skilled in the water," Huo Lang added, as if comforting Su Bai, or perhaps comforting himself.
"I think Mr. Su must have his reasons for saying this," Lian Xiangyu suddenly spoke up from the side. "I believe Mr. Su must have noticed something we haven't."
Due to a certain awkward feeling and the sixth-sense intuition brought by the Beast Form ability within him, Lian Xiangyu felt Su Bai was a very dangerous presence. But at the same time, Lian Xiangyu also knew Su Bai was on the players' side and possessed power beyond their imagination.
Regarding this, he believed, or rather, firmly believed.
