Chapter 585 Attention from the “Big Shot”
by 猫狸Chapter 585: The Attention of "Big Shots"
This weird administrator [Mr. Administrator] had never told Su Bai his name, but in Su Bai's puzzle pieces about this mysterious figure, he guessed the other party was tied up with the Mermaid Remnants. Not only was he really concerned about Luolimasi, but he could also find the Mirror Ghost from the Void Sea. This even made Su Bai think Mr. Administrator might be a member of the Mermaid Remnants.
Plus, when Su Bai first mentioned him to Wu Hang, who was pretending to be Xiao Wu at the time, Wu Hang seemed to know him and said he didn't have what it takes to do anything.
Su Bai still had no clue what Wu Hang meant by that, but if the nightmare game was an experiment of the Red Moon Association, then this weird administrator [Mr. Administrator] seemed to Su Bai like a plant from another faction within the Red Moon Association, who'd managed to get some access there.
"Looks like you've caught some attention." The familiar male voice rang out again, light, with that same flat politeness.
Only once the other players were totally gone did Su Bai, surrounded by the hospital buildings of 666 Hospital, speak under his breath: "You mean 666 Hospital? Or... the stuff buried deeper?"
The red-eyed kid next to him shot Su Bai a look.
"I really like the word 'stuff.'" His voice sounded like it had a smirk in it. "Unfortunately, that stuff is hidden too deep, Mr. Su. You'll have to make a huge racket to get their attention."
"Not that the ruckus just now wasn't enough." The voice paused, like it was searching for a good metaphor. "It's just that those things have always looked down their noses at 666 Hospital, like how people don't wanna go near a trash heap, so naturally, they wouldn't cast their gaze this way."
Mr. Administrator's description was pretty vivid, and it definitely left Su Bai with a weird impression of 666 Hospital.
Plus, this Mr. Administrator seemed to know a thing or two about humans and the real world. Or maybe those programmed admins also showed they knew about the human world when they spoke in their sarcastic tones.
Was there some kind of onboarding training?
Maybe because the game at hand was over, Su Bai's mind started to drift again.
"Don't worry, Mr. Su, it's nothing bad." Mr. Administrator said, pausing, then adding like he just remembered something, "Probably not, though."
"Just that some big shot's taken an interest in you, Mr. Su, and really wants to work with you again without those things getting in the way."
"Again?" Su Bai repeated in a low voice, a confused look on his face.
"He's a weird... director." Mr. Administrator revealed the other's identity, his voice a little emotional. "That guy's in seclusion, working on what's supposed to be a groundbreaking masterpiece. He specifically asked me to invite you, Mr. Su, hoping you'll play a part once the set's ready."
A director?
Su Bai immediately remembered the absurd acting game by the Blood Moon Lake. Back then, he'd felt that both the lake and the villa had terrifying things in them, but those creepy things were held down by something even scarier.
"Don't worry, it's not a game invite, just a private job." Mr. Administrator added.
Last time this Mr. Administrator gave him a private job at the end of Su Bai's game, it was for him to sneak into the Luolimasi Grand Hotel as a non-player.
Since he was emphasizing a private job again this time, it meant that after that big-shot director came out of seclusion, Su Bai would be sent into the game again as an NPC?
Su Bai didn't mind being free of rules and tasks, but...
"And the pay?" Su Bai asked without hesitation.
"That guy's generous. Maybe take some time to think it over, Mr. Su. Once that gentleman formally sends the invite, I'll help pass along the pay you want."
It seemed the director hadn't left Su Bai with the option to refuse.
"So, next, I'll send you away, Mr. Su. Back to that world as usual, right?"
Before Su Bai could answer, the familiar programmed voice cut in—
"Dear resident, you will now proceed to the real world."
"Ten... Nine... Eight..."
As usual, this Mr. Administrator fled super fast, leaving no time to react. Once the countdown started, his personal tone vanished completely, replaced by a mechanical one.
Su Bai's vision twisted fast in the countdown, space and perspective spinning in a dizzy whirl. He felt his feet suddenly give way, and the next second, he crashed onto the soft bed of the rest area, the familiar shop ceiling above him.
"Did you just run into that weird administrator [Mr. Administrator] you mentioned again?"
Following the sound, Su Bai turned his head and saw that Wu Hang had already swapped into the shell of shop assistant Xiao Wu. His head was by the bedside, his red eyes fixed seriously on Su Bai.
Clearly, from Su Bai's muttering just now, he'd caught some of it.
"..." Su Bai paused, almost reaching out to ruffle his head but stopping himself. He cleared his throat and briefly passed on what Mr. Administrator had said.
"A director?" After hearing this, Wu Hang frowned, his small face a bit conflicted. "He doesn't side with the Red Moon Association, but he doesn't side against them either. He's a pure hedonist. I've never dealt with him."
Wu Hang didn't say anything about Mr. Administrator showing up, as if these moves of his hadn't surprised him at all.
"We'll deal with the rest later." Su Bai took a deep breath, like he was psyching himself up. "The main thing now is handling the power of the Eerie Tree [Eerie Tree], right?"
"It'll hurt a bit at first." Wu Hang's expression was complicated. "You really ready?"
"Just at first?" Su Bai raised an eyebrow, his voice a little surprised.
Last time, when he'd only swallowed part of the Fog City Lord [Fog City Lord], the pain and fever in his body had dragged on for over half a month without relief. This time, the power taken from the Eerie Tree should be way worse.
"Yeah." Wu Hang nodded seriously, his tone as steady as ever. "I figured out a way to let you sleep for a while after taking in the power, to get through the worst part for your body."
"What do I need to do?" Su Bai had never doubted Yao, and now he wouldn't doubt Wu Hang.
"Cough." Wu Hang's expression suddenly got a bit awkward. His small face tried to stay serious, but his eyes kept sneaking looks at Su Bai's changing expression. As he picked his words, he said carefully, "Just... hold this shell of mine right now."
"..."
