Chapter 340 Seeking Advice
by 晴天白鹭Chapter 340 Seeking Advice
Sun Yijun was naturally lively and active, but she had been frustrated ever since she found out she was pregnant, as she found herself restricted in everything she did.
Her frustration caused her to lose her appetite and made the baby's health unstable, which worried Yu Yuan so much he stayed by her side every day, taking care of her and doing everything he could to cheer her up and get her to eat a bit more.
"You can't sit still for a second, can you? You're going to be a mom, but you're still so fidgety. How are you going to handle a kid?" Rong Royal Consort teased with a smile, looking helpless.
Sun Yijun, used to this, replied casually, "Isn't that what parents are there for?"
"Alright, just hang in there for a few more months. Once the baby's here, I'll take care of it," Rong Royal Consort said, taking Sun Yijun's hand as they walked to the side hall.
Once they sat down in the side hall, Sun Yijun played with Yu Ziyou for a bit before pulling Jiang Shu aside for a private chat.
Rong Royal Consort, who adored Yu Ziyou, played with him alongside Prince Rong, both hoping Sun Yijun would have a kid just as cute.
Yu Yuan peeked out to make sure Sun Yijun was gone before pulling Yu Zheng aside to complain.
"Zheng ge, was it like this when your wife was pregnant?"
"Like what?" Yu Zheng raised an eyebrow.
"Like getting mad at the drop of a hat, unable to eat or sleep well..." Yu Yuan, feeling like he'd found an ally, let out a flood of complaints.
Yu Zheng thought for a moment and said, "She had trouble eating and sleeping, but she didn't get mad easily."
Jiang Shu, who was naturally gentle, hardly ever got mad. Even when she was uncomfortable during her pregnancy, she was just tired and down, never taking it out on others.
Hearing this, Yu Yuan was so jealous he could cry.
Sun Yijun was not yet three months pregnant, with half a year still to go before delivery. Just thinking about it made Yu Yuan feel like the days were long and unbearable.
"Zheng ge, I'm having such a hard time!" Yu Yuan grabbed Yu Zheng to complain.
Prince Rong glared at him and said irritably, "You think being a father is easy? Back when you were in your mother's womb, you weren't well-behaved either..."
He paused, feeling something was off, and corrected himself, "You've never been well-behaved, and you still don't give us peace of mind."
Thinking about how Yu Yuan was now being tormented by the child, Prince Rong gloated, "What goes around comes around. Just bear with it."
After hearing this, Yu Yuan collapsed in his chair, feeling utterly hopeless.
In the past, he would have argued back with Prince Rong. But now, he had no energy for it.
Seeing him like this, Rong Royal Consort said, "The hardest part of pregnancy is for Yijun. You should be more attentive."
Yu Yuan grumbled, "How much more attentive can I be? She can't eat or sleep well, and neither can I. At least she's gained some weight, but look at me, I've lost a lot."
When Sun Yijun couldn't eat, Yu Yuan was too busy coaxing her to eat much himself. When Sun Yijun couldn't sleep, she would kick him awake...
Yu Yuan deeply felt that this child was being carried by both of them, and he even wished he could carry it in his own belly to make things easier.
As he thought about it, Yu Yuan remembered something.
"By the way, Zheng ge, that dish your chef makes... Mushroom Soup White Jade Balls, could he sell me the recipe?"
Recently, Sun Yijun had been constantly talking about this dish, saying she would go to Prince Jing's residence to eat it once her pregnancy stabilized.
It’s inconvenient to always have to eat at someone else’s place, so Yu Yuan wanted to buy the recipe to make it whenever he wanted.
Yu Zheng’s dark brows knitted together, paused thoughtfully, and said, “I can give you the recipe, but on one condition.”
“What condition?”
Yu Zheng replied, “Other than the chef who cooks it, no one else should know about it. And the chef must keep it under wraps and not leak it to others.”
“Why?” Yu Yuan was puzzled.
It was just a dish, even if it was a secret recipe, it shouldn’t make Yu Zheng so cautious.
Yu Zheng motioned him closer and whispered a few words to him.
Yu Yuan was astonished: “It’s actually made with meat?”
He’d tried the meatballs before and truly couldn’t detect any meat flavor.
“Be discreet. Pregnant women’s stomachs are sensitive, and if they know it’s made of meat, they might not be able to eat it,” Yu Zheng cautioned in a low voice.
Jiang Shu loved this dish, and if she became pregnant again in the future, it would surely be useful, so it couldn’t be exposed.
Yu Yuan nodded eagerly.
He completely understood Yu Zheng’s point.
Sun Yijun was just like that. Often, just hearing a dish’s name or its ingredients, she wouldn’t even want to taste it.
“Zheng ge, got any other tricks?”
Impressed by Yu Zheng’s experience, Yu Yuan continued to seek advice, and after their conversation, he felt he’d learned a lot.
In the main room, Sun Yijun vented to Jiang Shu about the difficulties of pregnancy.
Jiang Shu listened quietly, occasionally chiming in with comfort.
After getting it off her chest, Sun Yijun felt a bit better and then asked about Yu Lan.
“I heard she’s carrying twins. It’s so enviable.”
When she received Yu Lan’s letter and learned that she was also pregnant, Sun Yijun immediately wanted to visit the princess’s residence. But since her pregnancy wasn’t stable yet, Rong Royal Consort wouldn’t let her leave the residence.
After some time, Yu Lan wrote again to inform her that she was carrying twins, and Sun Yijun couldn’t sit still anymore. Her heart felt like it was being clawed at, and she was eager to go to the princess’s residence.
Yu Yuan couldn’t hold her back, so he ended up inviting Sun Yijun’s mother over.
In the past, Sun Yijun probably wouldn’t have listened. But ever since Sun Hechuan left, her mother had been heartbroken, relying entirely on Sun Yijun for support.
When Sun Yijun didn’t heed her advice, her mother’s eyes reddened, and tears started flowing. Seeing this, Sun Yijun didn’t dare argue anymore and obediently complied.
Looking at Sun Yijun’s bright eyes, Jiang Shu sighed gently, “My sister has severe morning sickness and vomits several times a day. I’ve seen her cry from sheer exhaustion after vomiting. And this is just the beginning.”
“What?” The envy in Sun Yijun’s eyes turned to shock.
Yu Lan hadn’t mentioned any of this in her letter, so Sun Yijun had assumed her pregnancy was going smoothly.
Although she also had some discomfort and nausea, it was nowhere near as severe as Yu Lan’s.
“Being a mother is so hard. It’s much easier to be a father,” Sun Yijun complained with a hint of resentment.
Jiang Shu remarked, "It's no easy task for men to provide for the family and shield their wives and children."
Sun Yijun grumbled, "Why are you sticking up for them?"
Noticing her displeasure, Jiang Shu smiled and shifted the conversation, informing her that Zhuiyun and Tanyu were to be wed.
"Really?" Sun Yijun was intrigued and pressed for details.
Though she had met Zhuiyun and Tanyu, she hadn't interacted much with them and was unaware of their mutual affection.
After hearing Jiang Shu's story, Sun Yijun clicked her tongue and said, "How fascinating, just like a tale from a storybook."
Sun Yijun listened intently, nibbling on a pastry as she absorbed every word.
Jiang Shu chuckled, seeing her eager for more, "That's all I know."
After all, it was a private matter, and even Your Highness shouldn't pry too much.
Still curious, Sun Yijun swallowed her bite and asked, "Any other juicy tidbits?"
Jiang Shu simply shook her head.
When it came to gossip in Shang Jing, she knew far less than Sun Yijun and wasn't as well-connected.
Sun Yijun gently touched her barely noticeable belly and said, "Once the pregnancy is steady, let's visit the princess together. She must be feeling cooped up too."
"Sure," Jiang Shu replied.
After being out for a while, Jiang Shu figured Yu Ziyou would be getting hungry, so she stood up and said, "I should get going now."
Sun Yijun hesitated, "So soon? Won't you stay for lunch?"
Jiang Shu explained, "I didn't bring the wet nurse, and even after drinking the lactation tea, I don't have much milk."
"Okay," Sun Yijun conceded.
In the grand scheme of things, the child comes first, so Sun Yijun had to get up and see her off.
