Chapter 55: Who Are You?
by 黎家七七Chapter 55: Who Are You?
Su Taotao had a certain quality about her. In 21st-century terms, she had this infectious energy and positivity.
Listening to her "lazybones" philosophy, one might think she was a slacker, but in reality, she was quite the opposite. Whether with children or her attitude toward life, she was very positive and proactive.
Regardless of the educational methods, this optimistic outlook on life would ensure that the two children turned out just fine.
Over the past few days, Fu Zhengtu had noticed this about her.
Without her influence, Chenchen and Yuanhang might have become as quiet and unapproachable as he was.
Fu Zhengtu silently peeled shrimp for her, waiting until she was done before peeling some for himself.
Fu Yuanhang also liked shrimp, but since it was his first time eating it, Su Taotao didn’t let him eat much. A shellfish allergy could be quite troublesome in this era.
With seafood like shrimp and seaweed available on the island, Su Taotao no longer worried about the children lacking calcium or protein and not growing tall.
Their family wasn’t short to begin with, and with proper exercise, sunlight, and a balanced diet, Su Taotao was confident she could raise both children to be tall, handsome young men like Fu Zhengtu, over 1.8 meters tall.
By the time they left the cafeteria, the evening lights were just starting to come on.
Su Taotao told Fu Zhengtu not to carry Chenchen, letting him walk to digest the food.
The two children walked ahead, while she and Fu Zhengtu walked behind, treating it like a post-meal stroll, and the whole family walked slowly.
Su Taotao spread her arms, closed her eyes, and took a deep breath. "The sea breeze here is so comfortable. We can come down for a walk after dinner every day."
The two kids were clearly having a blast.
In the small mountain village, there were no streetlights, and people generally didn’t go out much after dark.
Fu Yuanhang held Chenchen’s hand, gazing at the distant flashing lighthouse. Even now, he still felt like he was in a dream, wondering what would happen if he woke up and it wasn’t real.
Su Taotao suddenly walked backward and asked Fu Zhengtu, "By the way, Fu Zhengtu, have you ever heard of a painter or art teacher with the surname Tang?"
Fu Zhengtu shook his head and gave her a brief look before turning her 180 degrees to walk forward properly.
Su Taotao: "..." Was he always this overbearing?
Su Taotao wasn’t rebellious enough to argue with him. "His full name is Tang Boyong. See if you can find out more about him. If he’s reliable, I’d like Yuanhang to take art lessons from him."
Fu Zhengtu, hands in his pockets, eyes again on the bouncing Chenchen, asked, "Where is he from? How did you meet?"
Su Taotao gave him an exasperated look. "I met him on the train. You’ve seen him; he was the old Sir in our same carriage, who got off at the same station as us. He gave me an address, which seems to be in town."
Fu Zhengtu thought for a moment. There was such a person.
"You were asleep when we got off the train. We got separated and didn’t even have time to say goodbye."
Fu Zhengtu nodded. "I’ll check into it."
"By the way," it was tiring to look up while speaking, and Su Taotao almost started walking backward again but stopped herself, "is it convenient for us to go in and out? If we send Yuanhang to town for classes, is that okay? And what about daily necessities? Can we buy them in town, or is there a general store on the island? Can we only eat at the cafeteria? Can we buy our own groceries and cook?"
Fu Zhengtu was momentarily stunned by her barrage of questions and honestly shook his head. "I don’t know. I’ll ask tomorrow."
Su Taotao: "..." You really are out of touch with the real world, aren’t you?
Fu Zhengtu really didn’t know. Most of the time, he stayed in the lab. For fieldwork, there were always cars to pick him up. Meals were at the cafeteria, and daily necessities were procured by Xiao Lu, who would deliver them with a list.
He either slept in the laboratory or went back to the dormitory at night, living a monotonous routine, shut off from the world, all he did was work.
Before this trip home, he had long been disconnected from everyday life. Family matters, groceries, and daily chores were completely unrelated to him.
He looked at Su Taotao intently and emphasized, "I’ll get to the bottom of it."
"Yes, please let me know once you have clarity," Su Taotao had never doubted his ability to handle things. "And while you're at it, check on Yuanhang’s school situation—
Chenchen, no sticking your head over the railing!"
As soon as Su Taotao's voice fell, a figure darted out from beside her, swiftly picking up the little guy who was about to stick his head through the railing.
Little Fu Haochen's feet were off the ground, and he looked bewildered, "Daddy~~"
Su Taotao walked up and pinched his little face, "The outside is very dangerous. What if you fall down? Just like when sitting in a car, you can only look inside the railing and not stick your head out, okay?"
Chenchen blinked, looked outside the railing, and then thought about the car, unable to understand how the two could be compared.
Fu Yuanhang looked guilty, "Sister-in-law, I'm sorry. I wanted to look outside, and Chenchen copied me."
Su Taotao said, "It's okay, just remember next time. You can’t underestimate the water like you would the land. Whether it's reefs or seawater below, if you fall, there's little chance of survival. You must always respect nature. No matter how curious you are, safety always comes first."
Fu Yuanhang nodded, "I will remember, sister-in-law. It won't happen again."
Su Taotao patted his head, "It's normal to be curious. Both you and Chenchen are at an age where you have the strongest desire to learn and explore. Don't blame yourself."
Fu Yuanhang nodded vigorously, firmly remembering his sister-in-law's words.
Little Fu Haochen tilted his head, sucking on his hand, looking at his mother with a vague understanding.
Su Taotao pinched his face in exasperation. He was only two years old, and she didn’t expect him to grasp the bigger lessons, as long as he remembered not to stick his head out.
On the first night on the island, the whole family fell into a deep sleep to the sound of the waves crashing.
Fu Zhengtu woke up to find Su Taotao wrapped around him like an octopus, her pale white hand resting on his chest. His gaze moved upwards, and her sweet, sleepy face greeted him.
He gently touched her face, the sensation as soft as his mood at that moment.
From the small mountain village of Qinglian Commune to this southern island, he had traveled nearly 2,000 kilometers with her, not just bringing her here, but bringing their home here.
Like a dream.
Fu Zhengtu gently moved Su Taotao's hand and the leg that was stretched across his abs, kissed her lightly on the corner of her mouth, and then scratched her face gently before getting out of bed.
Fu Zhengtu first went to the next room to check on the two children.
The little guy was still sound asleep, his two short legs tightly wrapped around his special little blanket, his sleeping posture exactly like his mother's, adorably so.
Fu Zhengtu thought that he and Chenchen’s little blanket served the same purpose.
Fu Yuanhang was already up and sitting at the table, writing and drawing, not noticing his arrival.
Fu Zhengtu lightly knocked on the door and whispered, "I'm going to get breakfast."
Fu Yuanhang looked up and nodded, "Okay."
Fu Zhengtu went for a quick swim by the sea, then jogged over to the cafeteria.
It was still early, and the place was nearly empty.
A slender, graceful figure paced back and forth at the entrance of the cafeteria, obviously having waited for a while.
Fu Zhengtu emerged from the light, his sweaty, athletic build gradually approaching through the hazy morning light, as if he were a god.
She took a deep breath to steady her heart, gathered her courage, and blocked his path, showing off a perfect smile, her voice casual but forced. "Good morning, Zhengtu."
Fu Zhengtu's gaze sharpened, recognizing her face and her familiar tone. With what little politeness he had left, he asked, "Do I know you?"
