Chapter 82: Did Anyone Tell Chenchen the Pup is Black?
by 黎家七七Chapter 82: Did Anyone Tell Chenchen the Pup is Black?
The courtyard in the early morning was once again filled with Chenchen's laughter. An additional family member had joined the morning playtime, and today, he was even happier than yesterday.
"Bai Bai, you're too slow! Can't catch me!"
The poor little puppy, not even a month old, was forced into action, wagging its little tail as it chased the two-year-old around the yard.
Maybe it was the "cuteness magnetism"—cute beings loved to play with each other.
Chenchen and Bai Bai were drawn to each other, their eyes only for one another.
Fu Yuanhang felt a bit jealous, thinking his little nephew loved someone else more.
He bent down and picked the child up, rubbing his back. "If you run around and sweat, you'll need to change clothes again. Want to come to school with Uncle Shu today?"
Back in the village, he had almost always carried Chenchen to school. But since coming to the base, Chenchen had never gone with him, not even once.
Chenchen shook his head, waving his little legs. "No, I want mom and Bai Bai! Uncle Shu, put me down!"
With a helpless sigh, Fu Yuanhang set him down and tapped his head. "Little ungrateful one."
Chenchen giggled and ran after Bai Bai again.
Fu Zhengtu had gone out again after buying breakfast, this time returning with some bricks.
Sweat had soaked through his clothes, as if he had just been fished out of the sea.
"Bro, what's with the bricks? Need any help?"
Fu Zhengtu looked at his younger brother. "At the stairwell, be careful, carry fewer bricks at a time."
Fu Yuanhang agreed and went downstairs to help his brother carry the bricks.
Thinking he was a big boy, Chenchen wanted to help carry bricks too.
Fu Zhengtu reached out and scooped up his little legs. "You help Daddy go upstairs and see if Mom is awake."
With unsteady steps, what was he doing trying to carry bricks?
With a new task at hand, Chenchen no longer insisted on carrying bricks. Holding Bai Bai, he climbed the stairs with his little legs to find Mom.
Watching his small, wobbly figure take each step with a little jolt, Fu Zhengtu's heart bobbed up and down with him. Several times, he wanted to go over and carry him upstairs.
But thinking about how many times a day he needed to go up and down, he held back.
The little guy was so smart. He'd stop every few steps to give Bai Bai a rest, sitting on the stairs and rubbing the puppy's head as he lisped out a lecture. "Mom said ~~ walk slowly ~~ don't fall ~~"
Fu Zhengtu curled his lips, his refined features hidden in the morning light, warm and gentle.
After resting several times on the way up, Chenchen finally reached Mom's room. He first put the puppy down and shushed it.
Then, tiptoeing to the side of the bed.
Facing outward, Su Taotao sensed something and slowly opened her sleepy fox-like eyes. She reached out, pulling the little one into her arms, and planted a kiss on his rosy cheek. "Good morning, my little one."
Chenchen giggled and planted a slobbery kiss on Mom's cheek. "Mom ~~ good morning ~~"
Su Taotao hugged and kissed her little one a few more times. "Why did you come up here? Where's Dad?"
Chenchen said with a smile, "Moving bricks~~"
Su Taotao: "..." Early morning brick-moving? Is that what she meant?
Su Taotao carried Chenchen, who in turn carried Little White, as they came down the stairs. By this time, the two brothers had already made two more trips and finally moved all the bricks upstairs.
"Fu Zhengtu, where did you get so many bricks? What are they for?"
Su Taotao was wearing a blue dress today, and as she smiled charmingly, her eyes held the warmth of spring and her brows carried a hint of mischief. Fu Zhengtu's inner demon, the one that wanted to hide her away from the world, began to stir again.
He cleared his throat, "Weren't we supposed to be building an oven?"
Su Taotao then remembered. This man's actions and execution had always been swift, and she still hadn't gotten used to it.
Su Taotao gave him a teasing glance, "It's not urgent, and you're making Little Hang all sweaty."
Fu Yuanhang laughed, "I'm fine, Sis. It's good exercise."
Fu Zhengtu said, "It won't be that fast. We still need to prepare some more materials."
Su Taotao ignored the brothers.
Mo Jialin had come again to wait for Fu Yuanhang to go to class together. As soon as he saw Su Taotao, he immediately said, "Sis, the cake you made was really delicious, thank you."
Su Taotao liked polite children and said with a smile, "You're welcome. Next month is Little Hang's birthday. I'll make an even more delicious one, and you can try it again."
Mo Jialin smiled and thanked her again.
He then turned and squatted next to Chenchen, who was petting the puppy, and said, "Chenchen, Uncle Mu brought this puppy for you. Your little uncle went to find it for you. Do you like it?"
Following Fu Yuanhang's way of addressing, Mo Jialin referred to Su Taotao as "Sis" and called himself Chenchen's uncle.
Chenchen nodded with a smile, "Like~~ Thank you~~ Uncle Mu~~"
The child was so cute that Mo Jialin couldn't help but tease him, "Did you give your puppy a name? Our family's puppy is called Big Black. Isn't your puppy called Little Black?"
Chenchen looked at him seriously, tilting his head, "White White~~"
Mo Jialin thought he had heard wrong, "What?"
Chenchen patted the puppy's head, "The puppy's name is White White~~"
Mo Jialin looked at the black puppy and then at Chenchen in disbelief. Seeing Chenchen's big, wet eyes looking at him expectantly, he almost asked if Chenchen was confused about colors but held back. He gave a thumbs up instead, "Well, it sounds good!"
Chenchen beamed, "Good~~"
...
Mo Jialin and Fu Yuanhang only spoke again when they reached the ground floor, "Is Chenchen confused about colors? Hasn't anyone in your family told Chenchen that the puppy is black?"
And here comes the first person who needs an explanation.
Fu Yuanhang could only say, "He can tell the difference. He just likes white."
Mo Jialin: "..." Your whole family is fair-skinned, and even your black dog is named White White. That's pretty funny.
Mo Jialin asked Fu Yuanhang, "Is your birthday next month? What's the date?"
Instead of answering, Fu Yuanhang said, "No need to worry about getting me a gift. When it's your birthday, I'll have to think about what to give you in return. It's too much hassle. We should just get what we want for ourselves."
Mo Jialin: "..." You're so independent, don't you know you'll end up with no friends?
But in truth, Mo Jialin really liked Fu Yuanhang's personality. He was straightforward, no-nonsense, and always said exactly what he thought. It made him very easy to get along with.
He playfully grabbed Fu Yuanhang by the neck, "I won't give you a gift, but when my birthday comes, can you give me a painting?"
Mo Jialin had seen Fu Yuanhang's paintings, and they were exceptionally good. He'd been wanting one but hadn't found a good excuse.
Fu Yuanhang nodded, "Sure."
Mo Jialin was thrilled, "Then start observing me now and remember my best look. I want the best one."
Fu Yuanhang: "..." Isn't that a bit much? Who has the time to stare at you all day?
Mo Jialin, "Do you agree or not?"
Fu Yuanhang reluctantly replied, "You look good anytime."
Mo Jialin grinned, "Really? Better looking than me?"
Fu Yuanhang, "Yes."
Mo Jialin tightened his grip, "You're such a liar..."
Under the morning light, the two playful teenagers headed towards the most beautiful sunrise and their brightest years ahead.
