Chapter 69: What Kind of Exceptional Man Is This?
by 黎家七七Chapter 69: What Kind of Exceptional Man Is This?
That's right, this odd contraption really was a baby stroller!
Little Chenchen sat on the "small stool" inside, his little arms resting on the "handrail" in front, swinging his two chubby short legs, looking extremely cute.
Su Taotao squatted down to inspect it and was surprised by how lightweight and easy it was to handle.
Fu Zhengtu had somehow sourced four wheels that weren't as difficult to push as wooden wheels. Except for some important bearings, which were metal, the main material was actually smoothly polished old bamboo, so it wasn't as heavy as wood.
The design was also very simple: a push handle, a small stool, a basket under the stool, and a support acting as a handrail. Chenchen wouldn't move around much, so there was no need to make it fully enclosed. His two short legs could dangle outside, and of course, there were the four wheels.
Su Taotao pushed it and found it very light and convenient—no less efficient than a 21st-century baby stroller!
"Fu Zhengtu, you're amazing! How did you come up with this?"
When Chenchen complained that being carried was tiring, Fu Zhengtu came up with the idea of building this stroller so Su Taotao could push him around without getting exhausted.
It wasn't difficult for an experienced carpenter to make this stroller, though gathering the materials took some time.
He drew up the plans and gave them to the carpenter. Every day after work, he checked on the progress and lent a hand, and it was finished faster and better than he had hoped.
Before he brought it home, a supervisor spotted it and asked if it could be mass-produced. If it could be pushed onto the market, it would likely be snapped up quickly.
Clearly, the supervisor was eager to secure research funding.
"Chenchen can sit on top while we store groceries underneath. For heavier items, I'll buy them on the weekend. If you need something urgently, I'll get up early to fetch it. Try not to buy too many heavy things."
Su Taotao said, "I can still carry light stuff, and I need to go to the market to decide what I want to eat for the day. This stroller is so well-crafted, Fu Zhengtu—you're a genius!"
Even Fu Zhengtu was flustered by her praise.
Su Taotao thought to herself that 21st-century baby strollers had gone through countless improvements to achieve their effect. Except for the hardware, Fu Zhengtu's design and craftsmanship were already top-notch.
Su Taotao suddenly asked, "Can this stroller be mass-produced?"
Fu Zhengtu: "..." It was the same question the supervisor desperate for research funding had asked.
Fu Zhengtu shook his head, "No, the wheels were a rare find. This problem can't be solved for now. Wooden or bamboo wheels might work as toys at home, but they're too heavy to push outside, so they're not suitable."
Su Taotao thought it made sense. In an era where meeting basic needs was still a challenge, luxury items were more of a distant dream.
Su Taotao then thought of canned coconut juice. The cost of sealed cans was too high. These days, they were mainly used to produce meat and fruit cans. Although they were all luxury items, canned coconut juice had the lowest cost-effectiveness. After all, you could buy a bottle of soda for just a few cents, and ordinary folks wouldn't be willing to spend several dimes or even dollars on canned coconut juice.
However, regardless of the type of canned goods, the target consumers weren't ordinary people. Perhaps some state banquets and foreign guest receptions might need such products.
All of that could be considered later.
"By the way, Fu Zhengtu, can you help me buy ten young coconuts tomorrow?"
Fu Zhengtu: "Sure."
This stroller really won Su Taotao over. She pushed Chenchen around the yard a few times before finally stopping.
Naturally, Chenchen was thrilled with his new "toy." Fu Yuanhang also pushed him for a few rounds, and the yard echoed with his laughter.
Su Taotao realized one potential issue: "Carrying it up and down the stairs every day might be inconvenient."
Fu Zhengtu had already considered this and pulled out a chain. "No need to carry it upstairs—just lock it in the bike shed downstairs after use."
The frequency of bicycle use on the island is actually quite high, and Fu Zhengtu has one as well. Sometimes, when he can't catch the bus, he rides his bicycle to work.
Su Taotao could actually ride a 28-inch bicycle with Chenchen, but it was too big for her and not very convenient.
Su Taotao smiled. "You thought of that too?"
In front of the child, Su Taotao stood on her tiptoes and kissed Fu Zhengtu's smooth jawline. "You're incredible, Fu Zhengtu!"
Fu Zhengtu's narrow eyes flashed with helplessness, and his usually cold expression softened and warmed because of the red flush under his ear.
Chenchen made an "ah-oh" sound, his small, chubby hands covering his eyes, leaving a gap to peek through. His little mouth shouted, "Kiss! Kiss!"
Su Taotao turned around and gave Chenchen's chubby little face a smacking kiss. "Mwah, kiss."
The little guy kicked his short legs and giggled uncontrollably.
In the evening, Su Taotao finally paid a "heavy price" for her impulsive kiss in the afternoon, begging for mercy.
They had already used three contraceptives, and Fu Zhengtu showed no signs of stopping.
Su Taotao, her eyes red with anger, pushed and hit Fu Zhengtu's shoulders, finally flipping over to ride him like a horse, even biting his throat until it was red.
Fu Zhengtu held his head high, one hand on the back of her neck, pulling her tightly to him. His thin lips held her earlobe and punished it with a bite. His deep voice seemed to come from his chest. "Will you dare to kiss randomly again in the future?"
Su Taotao, feeling overwhelmed by the intensity of the kiss, replied in a soft, breathy voice, "I won't dare again..."
The next second, Su Taotao's lips were sealed, until she was gasping for air, until her soul felt weightless...
Only then did Fu Zhengtu let her go.
The next day, Su Taotao's internal clock was off, waking up over half an hour later than usual.
When she got up, the courtyard was already filled with Chenchen's laughter.
Fu Yuanhang was pushing him around the yard. The baby carriage was definitely Chenchen’s new favorite toy.
Su Taotao went downstairs and saw more than ten young coconuts piled on both sides of the stairway at the entrance.
Fu Zhengtu was at the dining table, where he had placed the bunch of small daisies he brought back last night, along with two opened young coconuts.
The lazy sunshine of 7:30 a.m. gently bathed him.
Perhaps sensing Su Taotao's gaze, he paused what he was doing and looked over. The collar button hid the mark she left on his throat, but it couldn't hide the softness and smile in his eyes. "Go wash up, then come over for breakfast."
What a great guy.
Su Taotao marveled at her own good fortune while once again reflecting that she wasn't a very competent housewife.
By the time Su Taotao finished washing up, breakfast was ready. She casually picked up a bun. There was no soy milk today, so she asked Fu Zhengtu, "Why did you buy so many young coconuts? Planning to have them for breakfast?"
Fu Zhengtu gave the little guy a bun to hold and eat himself. "Don't you all like drinking it?"
Su Taotao said, "Chenchen can only drink half a small bowl and not every day. Ten is enough for us to drink for several days. Besides, it won't stay fresh if it's left for too long."
Fu Zhengtu nodded. "Okay, I got it."
Su Taotao continued, "Fu Zhengtu, pour the coconut water into a bowl and scoop out the flesh. Both Chenchen and Yuanhang like eating it."
Fu Zhengtu nodded again. "Okay."
Su Taotao bit into her bun and looked at him, once again marveling at her fate. How did I get so lucky to find someone like him? Except when it came to using contraceptives, in every other aspect, he was almost completely obedient to her.
I’m so fortunate!
