Chapter 390 Returning to My Parents’ Home (14)
by 黎家七七Chapter 390: Returning to Her Parents' Home (14)
Mom and Dad Su still wanted to say something.
Su Taotao held their hands, shook her head slightly, and tilted her chin toward the chessboard.
The older couple bit their tongues.
Their eldest daughter-in-law had always been tactless. For the sake of family harmony, they usually let it slide to keep the peace.
But with their daughter’s family visiting after so long, and she was bullying Chenchen like this—who could just sit back and take that?
Still, judging by their daughter’s demeanor and Chenchen’s match against Su Wenhan, Chenchen had a good shot at winning.
Su Wenhan was actually a pretty decent player. He just couldn’t stand her, and refused to play with her—otherwise, it was hard to say who would win.
Before they knew it, the game had turned into a fierce battle.
With every move Chenchen made, Qin Rouran grew more astonished.
Did this kid even have to think? Almost as soon as she placed a piece, he would counter immediately, pressing forward step by step.
He was cool as a cucumber, while she was scrambling to keep up.
Without realizing it, Qin Rouran started playing faster.
But no matter how fast she moved, Chenchen still responded without hesitation.
At first, Qin Rouran thought he was just playing randomly, thinking he was nothing special—that Su Wenhan must have let him win before.
But to her surprise, every move Chenchen made was a carefully laid trap, slowly closing in on her until she felt suffocated.
Qin Rouran struggled more and more, sweat beading on her forehead.
Qin Rouran had learned from the best—her dad—so she was no slouch. She’d just underestimated him at first, gradually increasing her effort from thirty percent to seventy, then to full strength, and finally pulling out all the stops.
Chenchen honestly thought Qin Rouran’s game was far inferior to his dad’s, nowhere near as good as Mr. Tang’s, and couldn’t compare to his little uncle or second uncle either. He couldn’t beat his father, and winning against Mr. Tang required his full concentration—but beating his little uncle and second uncle was a breeze.
As for Qin Rouran—
“Mommy, I’m hungry. I want an apple.”
Granny’ll wash one for ya,” Mrs. Su immediately said.
Chenchen smiled, his eyes crinkling. He had already set up the board, waiting for her to fall into his trap. No matter how Qin Rouran moved, he had already planned his counter.
From then on, Qin Rouran was fully focused, afraid one misstep would lose her the game.
Meanwhile, Chenchen chomped into his apple with a loud *crunch* and even had the spare attention to offer his mom a bite.
Qin Rouran seized the moment Chenchen was distracted to make a sneaky move.
Chenchen caught on right away, countered without missing a beat, and took another loud *crunch* of his apple.
And so, with each *crunch* from Chenchen, Qin Rouran watched helplessly as her pieces were captured one by one, her cool completely unraveling.
She calculated the board, realizing that in just a few moves, she would be checkmated—and worse, face the shame of a total wipeout.
Frustrated and flustered, Qin Rouran suddenly shoved the board, scattering the pieces. “I quit! That apple crunching is driving me up the wall!”
Chenchen, with his cheeks puffed up like a little hamster chewing on an apple: "???"
The room fell silent.
Before anyone else could speak, Qin Rouran abruptly stood up, snatched the Rubik's Cube from Siqi's hands, and shoved it into Chenchen's grasp:
"It's just a colored cube! Take it back! I didn't lose, I just don't want to play anymore!" She huffed, then stuffed the red envelope into Chenchen's hand, adding, "Here's a gift. Take it or leave it!"
Chenchen: "..."
Chenchen had an epiphany—so this was how Aunt Qin played chess, no wonder she'd never lost.
Ignoring everyone else, Qin Rouran pulled a bewildered Su Siqi along as she headed out: "Come on, I'll buy you ten of them!"
She even turned back to call out to Su Wenhao: "What are you standing around for? Go buy some cubes for your son!"
Even someone as thick-skinned as Su Wenhao was left baffled:
"Oh! Coming!" he exclaimed. "Dad, Mom, we'll skip lunch today. If Taotao's still here next week, we won't come over. We'll come back after Taotao leaves."
Su Taotao: "???"
Is this really my brother?!
Everyone was speechless.
