Chapter 332: Little Black is at Your Service Anytime!
by 黎家七七Chapter 332: Little Black (Xiaohei) is at your service anytime!
Fu Yuanhang and Uncle Mu were even more excited about this trip than their previous one to the capital.
Two young lads, at the age where they most craved adult recognition of their maturity and independence.
This "solo" mission seemed like the best proof that they were finally considered grown-ups.
Too excited to sleep, the two boys volunteered to "keep watch," thumping their chests and promising Fu Zhengtu and Mo Gong a good night's rest.
Yet, after struggling most of the night, they succumbed to exhaustion and fell into a sound sleep without even realizing it.
Fu Zhengtu, however, was always highly alert on trains and slept lightly. After the boys dozed off, he simply sat up and rested with his eyes closed, giving Fu Yuanhang more space to stretch out.
Under the cover of darkness, all sorts of unsavory types began to stir.
Hearing furtive rustling, Fu Zhengtu suddenly opened his eyes and fixed them on a sneaky train thief creeping in.
"What do you think you're doing?" Fu Zhengtu asked in a low voice.
His sudden words startled the intruder.
Being a "professional," the man chuckled and calmly replied, "My bad, wrong compartment," before turning and leaving.
After that small incident, the rest of the night passed peacefully. By dawn, Mo Gong and the two boys woke up.
Uncle Mu wailed in dismay, "We were supposed to keep watch! How did I fall asleep? Fu, why didn’t you wake me?"
Mo Gong laughed. "Count yourself lucky. You got off easy—staying up would’ve stunted your growth."
"Pack up and eat some provisions. We’ll be arriving at the next stop soon," Fu Zhengtu said.
Uncle Mu glanced outside, skeptical. "Already? That was fast!"
Fu Yuanhang nodded. "Next stop’s coming. Hurry up."
The two boys waited in a long bathroom line, hastily ate some dry provisions, and grew increasingly excited as familiar scenery rolled by.
"Remember what Auntie said—when you’re outnumbered, don’t try to be a hero. Safety comes first," Fu Zhengtu reminded them.
Fu Yuanhang nodded. "Don’t worry, bro. I know."
Uncle Mu also drew himself up solemnly. "Bro, don’t worry! I’ll take good care of Ah Hang!"
Fu Yuanhang: "…" Who’s taking care of whom, he thought?
Even Mo Gong couldn’t hold back. "Pay more attention to Ah Hang. Stop being so reckless. Your mother hardly agreed to let you come. If anything goes wrong, you’ll never get another chance."
Uncle Mu drew himself up solemnly. "Don’t worry, Dad! I won’t betray the Party and the people’s trust! I’ll complete the mission flawlessly and bring Auntie back safe and sound to report to you!"
Mo Gong: "…" This kid must’ve been listening to too many resistance radio dramas lately.
After fumbling in his pocket, Mo Gong pulled out ten yuan and handed it to Uncle Mu. "Took me forever to save this without your mom knowing. Make it last. Call her when you arrive to let her know you’re safe."
Uncle Mu stamped his feet, hugged Mo Gong, and almost planted a kiss on him. "Dad! You’re the world’s best dad!"
His real dad was way more generous—Auntie Zhong had told him to spend the pocket money only if absolutely necessary, but his dad was clearly giving him carte blanche!
Fu Zhengtu exchanged a glance with Fu Yuanhang, then silently turned his head away, couldn't even look.
At S City's train station, Fu Yuanhang and Uncle Mu bid farewell to the two adults, carrying their small luggage as they followed the crowd off the train.
Mo Gong watched the boys' cheerful backs with worry. "Zhengtu, why do I feel so uneasy?"
Fu Zhengtu withdrew his gaze and replied, "Ah Hang is steady, and Uncle Mu is sharp. Nothing will go wrong."
That made Mo Gong feel a little better.
This stop at S City was a midway station, so not many passengers disembarked. Fu Yuanhang and Uncle Mu quickly followed the flow of people out of the train station.
Uncle Mu took a deep breath, threw his arms open wide, and exclaimed, "So this is what freedom smells like?"
Fu Yuanhang looked at him speechlessly. "When were you ever not free?"
Uncle Mu waved his hand dismissively. "You don't get it—your family is so democratic! Auntie Zhong is always up in my business. Only now am I truly free!"
"Psst, psst, psst..."
Uncle Mu turned to Fu Yuanhang. "Ah Hang, why are you shushing me?"
Fu Yuanhang was baffled. "When did I shush you?"
"Psst, psst, over here..."
The two boys exchanged glances—what was going on?
"Hey, comrades, over here!" A kid with dark complexion, not much older than Fu Yuanhang and Uncle Mu, wearing a ratty winter coat, popped up out of nowhere.
"Didn't you hear me? You guys look like you're not from around here—do you need any help?
Luggage carrying, pushing carts, directions, finding people, buying/selling antiques, food and entertainment... There's nothing Little Black can't do, guaranteed affordable with more bang for your buck!"
The boy flashed a grin. "What service do you need? I'm ready to help anytime!"
