Chapter 66: Sister-in-law, I fought back. I didn’t lose.
by 黎家七七Chapter 66: Sister-in-law, I fought back. I didn't lose.
Su Taotao hurried to the school, holding Chenchen in her arms without bothering to put on her sun protection gear.
"Auntie Zhong, what exactly happened?"
Auntie Zhong watched anxiously as Su Taotao, dressed in a skirt and carrying Chenchen, carefully descended the stairs, her own heart racing with each step.
"Slow down. I'm not entirely sure. I was chatting at the large canteen when I heard someone mention that Fu Yuanhang's younger brother got into a fight, his face covered in blood. I rushed to the school, but the guard wouldn't let me in, so I came back to inform you."
Su Taotao, with her lips pressed together, was anxious. She knew Fu Yuanhang's temperament well. He wouldn't fight unless someone hit a sore spot first.
Thankfully, she had reminded him in the morning not to let himself be hit without fighting back.
Auntie Zhong really couldn't bear to see her like this. "Let me carry him. I'm stronger."
Chenchen usually didn't let strangers hold him, but before Su Taotao could refuse, Chenchen had already reached out to Auntie Zhong.
Su Taotao was quite surprised. Did Chenchen like Auntie Zhong?
Little did Su Taotao know, Chenchen wasn't thinking that deeply. He just didn't want his mother to be tired. Whoever held him was fine as long as his mother wasn't burdened.
Auntie Zhong beamed with joy. If the atmosphere weren't so tense, she would have laughed out loud. She couldn't wait to tell Old Mo about this when he got home. She had heard that the little angel didn't even look at old men like her.
Taking turns, they reached the school in just ten minutes.
The guard immediately recognized Su Taotao. The news of Fu Yuanhang's fight had spread, and after registering, they were allowed in. The guard told her that Fu Yuanhang was in the infirmary.
Auntie Zhong knew where the infirmary was and led Su Taotao there directly.
Outside the infirmary, students and parents had gathered, creating a crowd both inside and out.
Seeing Su Taotao, they first looked stunned, then voluntarily made way for her.
Su Taotao, with her lips pressed tight, held Chenchen, her icy demeanor making her look like a moving snow mountain with her black hair and white dress.
The once noisy infirmary fell silent.
Fu Yuanhang stood in the corner with his head hanging down. His beloved green military uniform and the schoolbag Zhou Linglan had made for him were smeared with shoe prints. His hair, neatly combed before leaving the house, was now a mess. He stood quietly in the corner, his back straight, seemingly unrelated to the surrounding chaos.
Seeing no signs of a bloody face, Su Taotao breathed a sigh of relief.
It seemed the gossip had been exaggerated.
Feeling a presence, Fu Yuanhang looked up and saw a familiar figure. He hadn't made a sound when his classmates held him down and beat him, and he hadn’t cried, nor did his eyes turn red.
But seeing Su Taotao and Chenchen at the door, he sniffled and quickly walked over, hugging Su Taotao's waist, choking out, "Sister-in-law, I didn't lose. I fought back, but my clothes and schoolbag are ruined..."
He had taken on three of them and brought them all down, but what saddened him was that the clothes his sister-in-law bought for him and the schoolbag his mother made were damaged.
Su Taotao felt a pang of sorrow. Hugging the child, she gently stroked his head. "It's okay, don't cry. We'll buy new ones for you this weekend."
Chenchen, copying his mother, patted Fu Yuanhang’s head and said, "Uncle Shu, don't cry."
Su Taotao handed Chenchen to Auntie Zhong. "Auntie Zhong, could you watch him for a while?"
Auntie Zhong was more than happy, contentedly holding the little one.
Su Taotao guided Fu Yuanhang inside, finding a seat. As she tidied his hair and dusted off his clothes, she softly asked, "What happened, sweetie?"
A well-dressed woman said loudly, "Your child beat someone up pretty badly, and you're asking what happened..."
"Mind your own business, no one's talking to you," Su Taotao's gaze swept over her coldly.
For some reason, the woman actually closed her mouth.
Fu Yuanhang, thinking about what they had said, repeated it in his mind but spoke up:
"They were trash-talking, and they were the ones who threw the first punch. The three of them ganged up on me; I just fought back."
At that time, there wasn't a law for "self-defense" in the criminal code, but the concept had already been established in practice. If someone initiated an attack and caused harm, the defender wouldn't be held responsible as long as the defense wasn't excessive.
Su Taotao had a pretty good idea of what had happened and gently stroked Fu Yuanhang's head, saying, "It's okay, you did the right thing. I’ll take care of everything from here."
The woman interjected again, "You beat them up so badly, and now you're saying you did the right thing?"
Su Taotao replied, "Three against one, and they still got beaten up. Sounds like they got exactly what they deserved. Should our child have just stood there and let yours beat him up?"
She then turned to Director Chen, "How does the school plan to handle this?"
The three kids who started the fight were troublemakers, constantly bullying their classmates. The scientists at the base were busy all year round, and the children were generally left to their family members to manage.
There were always some parents who spoiled their children and wouldn't admit it. When complaints were made about their children bullying others, these parents would say, "It's the teacher's responsibility to educate the children. Why else would we send them to school?" The school was at a loss with parents like that.
Two of the parents of the kids who started the fight didn't even show up. When someone was sent to request their presence, they were told, "We're too busy. The school can handle it however they want; at most, they'll just be sent back."
Honestly, the school usually just swept these things under the rug. If the victim's parents were unforgiving, the school wouldn't know how to deal with it.
Director Chen realized Su Taotao was a level-headed parent. Although she was stunningly beautiful, her tone was relatively gentle, so he braced himself and said,
"It was just a small fight between classmates. The students have already apologized to each other. I've already severely reprimanded the ones who started it. Classmates should help and care for each other and value harmony."
Su Taotao gave him a half-smile and said, "Wow, you really know how to smooth things over, don’t you, Director Chen? Must be a talent of yours."
Director Chen, standing there, was drenched in sweat. Was I even a leader? You, sitting down, exude such dominance that you seem more like my superior.
Su Taotao turned to Fu Yuanhang and asked, "Yuanhang, do you want to forgive them?"
Fu Yuanhang shook his head and said, "I don't."
Su Taotao gave Director Chen another half-smile and said, "I'm sorry, Director Chen, but our child doesn't want to forgive them."
The woman who had interrupted was the only parent present of the three kids who started the fight. She had rolled her eyes several times while Su Taotao was speaking and tugged at her own child's clothes, saying,
"Who’s not forgiving who now? Like we’re going to forgive you after this! Your child tore my child's clothes. If you don’t pay up, this isn’t going anywhere."
Su Taotao ignored her and turned her attention to the boy standing in front of her. He was half a head taller than Fu Yuanhang and had dark skin. Su Taotao asked gently, "Where's your backpack? Is it ruined?"
The boy, for some reason, found Su Taotao's soft-spoken tone terrifying and quickly protected his backpack, shaking his head.
Su Taotao continued, "My little Yuanhang's backpack was hand-sewn by my mother-in-law. Now it's ruined because of you. What do you think should be done?"
The boy shook his head and said, "No, I didn't tear his backpack!"
The boy's parent, seeing Su Taotao ignoring her repeatedly, flared up and said, "Hey, what's your attitude? Are you deaf? Can't you hear me?"
Su Taotao finally turned her gaze to her and said calmly, "Who are you? Why should I listen to you?"
The child's parent: "..." What?
