Zhao Cheng was so surprised that he didn't know what to say for a moment, just holding the champagne glass and staring at Gu Bing.
Gu Bing, however, paid no attention to his friend's reaction, his gaze sweeping over the faces of the people mingling at the banquet.
Their expressions varied.
Some wore false smiles, others had ingratiating looks, and a few displayed an air of superiority.
This setting made him feel nauseous, the feeling enveloping him, causing his brows to furrow as a destructive urge rose within him.
If only all of this would disappear.
Such thoughts began to emerge.
"Brother Gu, isn't that Song Chuyi?" Zhao Cheng's voice suddenly broke through.
Gu Bing lifted his eyes and saw Song Chuyi peeking in from the side entrance. Seeing him, Song Chuyi waved enthusiastically.
He smiled brightly and warmly, unlike the fake and nauseating grins of others. His smile seemed genuine, as if rooted deep within his soul.
The destructive thoughts vanished in an instant, replaced by another idea.
He was a bit curious about Song Chuyi's original plans for the evening.
Gu Bing put down the champagne glass. "It's him. I'll be going now. Enjoy yourself."
Without waiting for Zhao Cheng's response, he strode towards Song Chuyi.
Zhao Cheng watched Gu Bing's back and muttered under his breath.
"Really getting serious?"
No wonder it's Brother Gu!
Gu Bing was unaware of his friend's thoughts. He walked straight up to Song Chuyi, raising an eyebrow. "What's up? Missing me?"
Song Chuyi cleared his throat and grabbed Gu Bing's wrist. "Brother Gu, how much longer is this party going to last?"
"Hmm?" Gu Bing's eyes narrowed slightly. "Why?"
Song Chuyi leaned close to Gu Bing's ear and whispered, "Actually, the driver's uncle has a bonfire tonight in the village. Do you want to go?"
"If you don't want to, can I take a leave?"
"No." Gu Bing's tone was flat. "No leave."
Song Chuyi's little tuft of hair drooped, looking pitiful.
"But we can go," Gu Bing said, lifting a hand to straighten the tuft.
However, the tuft refused to cooperate and drooped again.
Song Chuyi looked up at him, puzzled. "Brother Gu?"
Gu Bing's lips curved slightly, seeming pleased. "Take me with you."
Song Chuyi's eyes lit up. "Sure, sure!"
The tuft of hair perked up along with his mood.
Gu Bing flicked the tuft he had just straightened, feeling inexplicably better.
The two quietly left the banquet.
The driver, seeing that Xiao Song had convinced the boss to attend the bonfire in the village, appeared somewhat flustered.
He gripped the steering wheel tightly, unsure of what to do. Song Chuyi noticed his nervousness and spoke up. "Driver uncle, how long will it take to get to the village?"
"An hour," the driver's honest voice replied.
"That's perfect; Brother Gu can take a nap in the car," Song Chuyi smiled. "Just pretend we're not here!"
If the boss really rests, the driver could relax a bit. He let out a quiet sigh of relief, focusing on the road and starting the car.
In the back seat, the soundproof partition was lowered.
Gu Bing had taken off his suit jacket at some point and draped it over his lap. He played with the pin Song Chuyi had given him.
The wolf-shaped pin felt cold and hard, its edges sharp rather than smooth.
Watching Gu Bing, Song Chuyi thought his fingers were truly beautiful—long and well-defined. They would look great playing ball.
Lost in thought, he blurted out, "Playing ball, right?"
Gu Bing turned to look at him. "Playing ball?"
"Yes!" Song Chuyi nodded seriously. "I bet they'd look great holding something round!"
"Like a balloon."
As he spoke, he pulled out his phone and showed Gu Bing a picture.
"Something like this."
The photo showed an artist's drawing of a hand holding a balloon. The hand was slender yet strong, with veins slightly raised, exuding a capable and restrained charm.
Gu Bing's eyes narrowed slightly. "Is this what you usually look at?"
Song Chuyi's ears turned red. "Not at all, I was just looking around."
He put his phone away and fanned himself with his hand.
"Seems a bit hot, huh?"
His ears were still tingling slightly, and he tried to suppress the sensation, changing the subject.
"Brother Gu, have you ever been to a bonfire party?"
"No." He had grown up in luxury, attending only business dinners that were filled with ulterior motives and debauchery, leaving a sour taste.
"That's great, then!" Song Chuyi patted Gu Bing on the shoulder. "This bonfire party is a special festival in this small village where only the driver uncle lives."
"I heard that many years ago, someone taught in their village and educated generations of college students. To thank that person, they specially designated his birthday as a day of gratitude, and everyone in the village returns for a bonfire party."
Gu Bing played with his lapel pin, his tone indifferent. "You seem to know quite a lot about this."
"I chat a lot with the driver uncle, hehe." Song Chuyi chuckled. "If Brother Gu chats more with me, I'll get to know you better too."
He suddenly leaned in close, almost face-to-face with Gu Bing.
"What do you think, Brother Gu?"
His breath brushed against Gu Bing's lips.
Gu Bing pursed his lips, his throat moving slightly. "Mm, you're right."
Song Chuyi sat up straight again, chuckling. "Then, Brother Gu, is there anything you want to do recently?"
Gu Bing's eyes narrowed slightly, his gaze dropping to Song Chuyi's tightly clad buttocks.
The pants were snug, making them stretch taut when sitting, perfectly outlining the shape.
Round and firm, like a balloon, perfect for playing with.
"Playing ball."
For some inexplicable reason, those two words slipped out.
Song Chuyi let out a light exclamation. "Playing ball? That sounds good! When you're not busy, we can go play ball; my skills are great!"
He patted his chest. "I guarantee Brother Gu will win!"
Gu Bing didn't explain, his gaze sweeping over Song Chuyi before quickly retracting.
He closed his eyes, playing with the lapel pin, lost in thought.
Seeing him close his eyes, Song Chuyi obediently fell silent.
Over the past few days, he had noticed how little sleep Gu Bing got. Any rest would help, or else this man might really end up destroying the world.
Fortunately, he had sneaked a peek at Gu Bing by the banquet hall entrance earlier, otherwise he wouldn't have seen the gloomy aura surrounding him, as if he could explode at any moment.
Indeed, bringing him out to play was the best decision. Once he gets tired, Gu Bing will surely sleep soundly, right?
Song Chuyi glanced at Gu Bing and unexpectedly met a pair of deep, dark eyes.
