Chapter 468: Invisible in Love (10)

Song Chuyi gave a soft hum as he sized up Gu Yongnian for a moment.

    "I can't sleep."

"So you have to keep me company every night."

"Stay with me for a full week, and I’ll make this Sacred Tree bloom and bear fruit."

Without hesitation, Gu Yongnian answered swiftly.

    "Okay."

"I can stay with you all the time."

Song Chuyi turned his head slightly, staring at his motionless original form, undisturbed by the wind, with a faint gleam in his eyes.

Amid the strong woody fragrance, Gu Yongnian heard the response from the person beside him.

    "Alright."

Song Chuyi took a week-long leave from school.

He also convinced Song Mu and his father by claiming they were going on a trip together.

They hadn’t expected the two to get along so well—happy but a little concerned.

But they kept it from Song Chuyi.

Once everything was ready, Song Chuyi dragged Gu Yongnian into a marathon sightseeing trip.

They visited all the attractions in Jing City in a single day, then caught the last train to a neighboring city.

Five hours on an old-fashioned train, arriving just in time for sunrise at 5 a.m.

As they stepped off the train, sunlight washed over them through the gaps between the platforms.

Song Chuyi glanced back at Gu Yongnian, noticing the dark circles under his eyes, and spoke up.

"Let me know if you need a break."

Gu Yongnian shook his head lightly.

Song Chuyi shrugged and didn’t push it, striding out of the station.

Another day of marathon sightseeing—museums in the morning, then they’d hit the science museum in the afternoon.

In between, they made time for must-try local eats.

Song Chuyi was still full of energy the whole time, looking wide awake despite two sleepless nights.

In contrast, Gu Yongnian was just a regular guy barely keeping up.

By the third night, Gu Yongnian looked a little pale, the dark circles under his eyes darker.

Yet wherever they went, people still noticed him first.

Even though he was showing weariness, he remained just as striking.

In contrast, Song Chuyi beside him was so unnoticeable that no one paid him any attention.

At a grill stand in the snack street, Song Chuyi got some skewers.

Sitting on a small stool, he quirked a brow at Gu Yongnian across from him.

"If you're tired, you can sleep."

    Gu Yongnian shook his head.

    "Not gonna sleep."

He didn’t say he wasn’t tired—just that he wouldn’t sleep.

Song Chuyi guessed Gu Yongnian was probably getting sleepy by now.

This timing was earlier than he had expected.

Had Gu Yongnian’s mental stamina… really started slipping?

Such thoughts crossed his mind for a second before vanishing.

He didn’t press Gu Yongnian further. After finishing the barbecue, he dragged him to drive to the next city over.

Since neither of them could sleep, there was no point in stopping.

The highway was dead at night.

Gu Yongnian was at the wheel, the endless dark road combined with the silence inside the car making it downright hypnotic.

Anyone else probably would’ve dozed off by now.

But Gu Yongnian held the wheel tight, driving with practiced ease and steadiness.

Song Chuyi stayed quiet for a while before tutting lightly, figuring Gu Yongnian wouldn’t sleep. He took out some snacks and started eating.

    At last, some noise.

The loud crunching of potato chips made Gu Yongnian shoot a glance.

    "You really like barbecue-flavored chips?"

Song Chuyi gave a soft hum.

    "Yeah, they’re good."

He offered the bag toward Gu Yongnian.

    "Want some?"

Gu Yongnian shook his head. "You have them."

Song Chuyi didn’t push it and kept crunching away.

The night gradually swallowed up the streetlights on either side, their weak light hardly lighting up the road ahead.

Even the car’s headlights could only throw a faint glow on the path before them.

The howling wind could be heard even through the car windows, as if they were driving straight into the jaws of a monster.

    *Crunch crunch*

The sound of eating chips continued, breaking the eerie mood.

Gu Yongnian’s eyelashes fluttered briefly as he muttered, “Sorry.”

Song Chuyi gave him a sidelong look but stayed silent.

On the fourth day, Song Chuyi dragged Gu Yongnian hiking, sea-swimming, and even river-fishing.

He didn’t let him rest for a second, until the evening of the fifth day when the two boarded a boat to a tourist island.

Maybe because it was the off-season—there weren’t many passengers on the ship.

The still sea allowed the boat to sail smoothly.

In their room, Song Chuyi slouched against the windowsill, staring out.

The sky slowly darkened, with only scattered stars dotting the horizon.

Gu Yongnian sat behind him, his face ghostly pale.

His breathing was so shallow it was nearly imperceptible unless one listened carefully.

Song Chuyi turned to look at him and teased, “Ready to quit?”

Gu Yongnian shook his head, slow and stubborn.

    “A’Chu,” he said.

    “I won’t give up.”

Song Chuyi went back to watching the window.

Gu Yongnian just watched his back, silent.

At some point, the wind had picked up over the sea—just a breeze at first, then enough to ruffle the waves.

The waves almost seemed alive, chasing after the wind.

Soon, the sea turned rough, and the previously steady boat began to rock.

Yet weirdly, everything stayed quiet—whether due to the room’s soundproofing or because nobody else felt the boat rock.

Or perhaps, there was no one else on the ship besides them.

Song Chuyi stretched with a yawn. “If you’re tired, you can sleep.”

“Wake up, and it’ll be clear.”

Gu Yongnian sat in his chair, one hand on the armrest, the other limp.

“The sky’ll clear, but not you.”

    He gave a tired smile.

"When did A'Chu figure it out?"

Hearing this, Song Chuyi finally turned around, leaning against the wall with a smile as he spoke.

"I figured it out when I came to this world."

Gu Yongnian pressed his lips together.

Song Chuyi grinned and said, "You and the main system schemed for so long, got me to fall for you. Why the cold feet now?"

"Oh, I forgot—I was into you from the start."

"You're the strangest and strongest human I've ever met."

    Gu Yongnian's eyes lit up.

"Of everything you said, you liked me from the start?"

    Song Chuyi didn’t hold back.

    "You're good-looking, have a great figure, a wonderful personality—total catch."

"Plus, you're successful in your career, and your family and friends are flawless."

    "Hell yeah I like you."

Gu Yongnian's chest hitched, somewhere between exasperation and affection.

"A'Chu, what's 'like' mean?" he asked.
