Chapter 9: The Insomniac CEO's Canary Has Gone Wild (9)

Song Chuyi was taken aback and momentarily forgot to speak.

Gu Bing had sharp, cold eyes that usually looked at people indifferently, as if he didn't care about them at all.

It seemed like nothing could catch his attention.

But at this moment, those deep eyes were reflecting his image.

It wasn't just a simple reflection; it was more like he had truly seen him, seen him into his heart.

This was the first time Song Chuyi had been looked at like this, and his ears inexplicably turned hot and itched a bit.

He raised his hand to touch his earlobe, perhaps because it still itched, he tugged at it.

The already slightly red earlobe turned even redder under its owner's rubbing.

    "Embarrassed?"

Gu Bing's lips curled into a smile, seeming in a good mood.

"No way," Song Chuyi retorted, "Why would I be embarrassed?"

He didn't know anything about being embarrassed!

"I just suddenly think Brother Gu looks really handsome."

He leaned closer and scrutinized him carefully, "Really, no wonder you're the CEO! You look so handsome!"

He raised his thumb, praising him wholeheartedly, looking as serious as possible.

Gu Bing's smile deepened, "So should I thank you for the compliment?"

His gaze lingered on Song Chuyi's red earlobe for a moment.

Song Chuyi's earlobe was a bit fleshy and now red almost to the point of transparency, like a drop of blood.

"Pretty cute," Gu Bing suddenly said.

    Song Chuyi: ?

    He looked puzzled, "What's cute?"

"Nothing." Gu Bing's Adam's apple moved as he swallowed, then closed his eyes again, trying to cover up the beautiful sight he had just seen with darkness.

Seeing him close his eyes again, Song Chuyi obediently shut up.

He didn't need sleep, but Gu Bing was different. As a human, he should get seven hours of sleep every day.

But in the past three days, Gu Bing had only slept for a total of seven hours. It was no wonder his body was breaking down.

Oh, before his body, his mind had already gone crazy.

Song Chuyi adjusted his breathing, trying to minimize his presence, and then started chatting with Xiaotong in his mind.

"Xiaotong, Xiaotong, what will happen if Gu Bing doesn't rest properly?"

    Xiaotong: "The world will end!"

"Host, Gu Bing is the big villain who will destroy the world!"

Song Chuyi asked curiously, "What did he do exactly?"

Xiaotong: "He never sleeps, gets moody, and starts causing trouble every day, releasing various code viruses into the internet, causing the entire internet to crash."

"He also developed an artificial intelligence and gave the initial AI a command to be loyal only to him. After nurturing the AI to maturity, he committed suicide."

"Later, the AI took over humanity!"

    Song Chuyi: ...

He glanced at the resting Gu Bing and replied in his mind, "He must be pretty impressive."

Xiaotong: "Yes, he's so ruthless to himself, causing trouble and then committing suicide. Humans are supposed to fear death the most, right?"

Song Chuyi blinked, "Not necessarily, some things are scarier than death for humans."

    Xiaotong: "Eh? Why, Host?"

"Don't know," Song Chuyi answered honestly, "Humans are quite strange."

    Xiaotong: "Yeah!"

Song Chuyi looked at Gu Bing and added,

    "But they're also quite smart."

Xiaotong: "Host is the smartest! Go, go!"

Song Chuyi's lips curved into a smile.

The car slowly came to a stop, and not far away, a bonfire was burning brightly, with figures moving around and laughter echoing, which reached Gu Bing's ears.

He slowly opened his eyes and pinched the bridge of his nose.

    "Are we there?"

"We're here!" Song Chuyi opened the car door first, "Brother Gu, do you want me to check it out first?"

"No need." Gu Bing got out of the car as well. "Let's go together."

The driver led the way, and the two followed behind.

The car wasn’t parked far, so they arrived at the square where the bonfire party was held after a few minutes.

As soon as the villagers saw the driver, they greeted him warmly. The driver wiped the sweat from his forehead and introduced Gu Bing and Song Chuyi to everyone.

"This is Boss Gu, and this is Xiao Song. They heard about the bonfire party and came to check it out."

The villagers were very friendly and warmly greeted the two.

Gu Bing nodded faintly, clearly not one for many words.

But Song Chuyi responded enthusiastically and soon struck up conversations with the villagers.

When the mood was high, he was pulled by the villagers to dance around the burning bonfire.

Gu Bing stood on the outskirts, arms crossed, his gaze following Song Chuyi.

There were no lights around, only the burning flames illuminating each face.

Though their faces bore lines and their eyes showed signs of age, they smiled brightly.

These people seemed genuinely happy. Compared to the formal banquets filled with ulterior motives, this bonfire party was indeed relaxing.

But that didn’t mean Gu Bing would join in.

Dancing around the bonfire was simply not something he would do.

    He just watched quietly.

At that moment, Song Chuyi suddenly ran over and grabbed Gu Bing’s wrist.

    "Brother Gu, let's play together!"

He tried to pull Gu Bing to dance, but Gu Bing gripped his hand and pulled him into his embrace.

Song Chuyi looked at him, stunned.

    "Brother Gu?"

"Is it fun?" Gu Bing asked.

Song Chuyi hesitated for a moment but then nodded.

Taking advantage of Gu Bing’s frown, Song Chuyi hugged his arm and dragged him to the bonfire.

The flickering firelight illuminated their faces, making Song Chuyi’s cheeks glow red.

The warmth spread, not just from the bonfire but also from Song Chuyi’s body.

It was strange how he could distinguish between the two.

For a moment, Gu Bing relaxed and was pulled into dancing by Song Chuyi.

Their hands somehow ended up clasped together.

His left hand held Song Chuyi’s right hand.

Others wanted to join and hold hands, but a cold glance from Gu Bing deterred them.

Holding hands with anyone was the same; as long as they were having fun, it didn’t matter!

Song Chuyi lifted his left hand, making graceful gestures in the air, casting small shadows on the ground like butterflies or birds, all symbols of freedom and joy.

"Brother Gu, do you like it?"

Gu Bing stared at the small shadow on the ground, then looked up at Song Chuyi, a slight smile forming on his lips.

    "Beautiful."

Like a free butterfly, originally fluttering freely, yet willingly held in his grasp.

Something inside him felt filled in that instant, and he sighed contentedly.

    "Very beautiful."

It was the kind of beauty that made his heart skip a beat.
