Chapter 258: The Little Mermaid Nobody Liked Becomes the Group’s Darling (3)
by 棠棠Chapter 258: The Little Mermaid Nobody Liked Becomes the Group's Darling (3)
Looking at the small fish, Song Chuyi used his tail to dig a small shallow pit and placed the fish inside.
Let it chill first, and tomorrow morning, he could have sashimi.
The show's producers allowed each guest to bring three items. The original host had brought a dagger and a bottle of water, and... a lucky charm.
The bottle of water had already been drunk by the original host, and the lucky charm still hung around his neck.
The remaining dagger was carefully hidden under his fish tail.
Song Chuyi took out the dagger and placed it beside the shallow pit.
Then he lay down, resting his head on the dagger.
His coffee-colored tail occasionally twitched.
Under the ice, Qing Yuan suddenly realized he couldn't eat anymore and frowned.
What a strange feeling, he thought.
His massive paw rested against his belly.
It was so full and bloated, but he still wanted to eat.
He stared at the figure on the ice, a peculiar thought popping into his head.
He thought he wanted to eat him.
The little thing was so sweet; it would probably taste amazing.
But the little thing was too skinny; he had to fatten him up.
Qing Yuan swam to the tiny hole, which wasn't even as big as one of his fingers, and frowned harder.
How could he get him to gain weight through such a small hole?
He would have to catch fish smaller than his fingers.
Qing Yuan, still somewhat confused, dove into the deep sea.
Hunting for small fish was quite a workout for Qing Yuan, as he had to be careful not to accidentally kill them.
Dead fish weren't tasty, and Qing Yuan never ate them. Naturally, he didn't want his little thing to eat such gross stuff either.
He wanted to catch some live small fish to give to his little thing.
This was a real challenge for Qing Yuan.
He hunted all night and only caught three live small fish.
Carefully holding the three live fish, he headed to the hole. When he opened his paw, only one fish was still alive.
Qing Yuan: ...
He pushed the two dead fish aside and placed the live one in front of the hole.
As soon as the small fish was released, it tried to escape, but Qing Yuan's massive body cut off all escape routes.
Only the small hole still held a ray of hope.
Driven by the instinct to survive, the small fish bolted out.
Then it heard an excited voice.
"Is this my breakfast today?"
"Wow, such a feisty fish!"
With a "smack," the small fish hit the ice layer, flopped lifelessly, and died.
Song Chuyi picked up the small fish and held it up next to the dead one from yesterday.
Honestly, the small fish that had been lively just moments ago smelled even more delicious.
He picked up the dagger and enjoyed a hearty portion of sashimi.
Perhaps because this body was that of a mermaid, he didn't taste any fishiness at all.
Instead, a sense of freshness filled his mouth, making Song Chuyi realize for the first time that sashimi could be so delicious.
After eating and drinking his fill, Song Chuyi stretched and stood up, using his fish tail for balance.
Honestly, the fish tail was quite sturdy when standing, fully capable of supporting his body.
"Our goal today is to dig a hole to gather water."
He spoke as if talking to his live stream audience, or perhaps to Qing Yuan beneath the ice layer.
Qing Yuan didn't fully understand what Song Chuyi was saying, but he could see that he had eaten the fish he caught.
The little mermaid seemed very happy, radiating joy.
Qing Yuan silently licked his lips, telling himself that he needed to fatten him up some more.
At least until he could be a decent meal.
Soon, the sound of a fish tail slapping the ice surface rang out from above.
The ice layer was too thick, so digging a deep hole was tough.
However, Song Chuyi only wanted to dig a slightly larger shallow hole, so he didn't push himself too hard.
After all, he had plenty of time, so he playfully tapped the ice layer with his fish tail as if playing.
Qing Yuan saw the beautiful fish tail hitting the ice surface, but he didn't seem to mind.
A hint of confusion flickered in his eyes.
Was the little mermaid playing with him?
He couldn't tell.
But after some thought, he imitated the little mermaid and swished his tail.
With a single sweep of his tail, the entire deep sea shook violently.
Internal waves surged, even reaching the ice island a hundred miles away.
The guests on the island all stood up at the same time.
"What's going on?" someone asked.
"I don't know, but it's probably nothing good," a voice replied, struggling to stay calm. "We can't just sit around waiting for the worst."
Since last night, they hadn't received any supplies from the show's crew.
This meant the audience wasn't happy with how things were going, which meant they weren't tipping.
If this keeps up, they're done for.
"Let's split up and do something."
Someone suggested.
No one argued with that. They couldn't trust strangers they'd just met to have their backs.
A hundred miles away, Song Chuyi rolled over.
"I'm tired."
He muttered, running a hand over his fish tail.
"The coffee color's actually pretty nice."
A tree's gotta accept itself!
Song Chuyi thought optimistically as he tapped on the ice.
A huge eye pressed up close to Song Chuyi's hand.
But the ice was too thick for Song Chuyi to see Qing Yuan's eyes.
He could only guess from the shadow's slight movement that Qing Yuan had probably heard him.
Qing Yuan had indeed heard Song Chuyi tapping on the ice.
Even though the sound was faint, Qing Yuan's sharp senses and focus on his food meant he caught it.
He moved in closer, curious to see if the little thing had grown.
After a couple of seconds, he frowned.
It didn't look any bigger.
"Well, one little fish wasn't gonna cut it."
Qing Yuan thought for a moment and decided to catch more fish.
He remembered the small fish that had flown out last night, probably spat out by the big fish he'd eaten.
An idea struck him.
Soon, Qing Yuan caught a big fish and brought it under the small hole.
After aligning the big fish's mouth with the small hole, he held the big fish's belly with his two front claws.
The big fish, startled, started spitting out fish.
One by one, small fish shot out through the thick ice from the small hole.
Song Chuyi looked utterly bewildered at the flying fish.
The small fish scattered around the round hole, and at a glance, there were easily hundreds of them.
Song Chuyi: What the...?
He frantically tapped on the ice, "Enough, enough!"
Any more and he'd be stuck drying small fish here!
Qing Yuan didn't understand a word, but he stopped anyway.
Spitting out any more would just mean dead fish.
Dead fish aren't tasty.
He swallowed the big fish in his hand, chewed it, and stared at the little mermaid above the ice.
Eat up, get fat.
That way, he could devour him.
As if savoring the sweet scent of the little mermaid, the massive black shadow radiated joy.
Above the ice, Song Chuyi stared at the fish scattered everywhere, his mouth twitching in disbelief.
Great, just great, he was about to turn into a mermaid drying fish on an iceberg.
