Song Chuyi's eyes lit up. "Thanks, Grandpa!"
"No wonder my husband says you're the best grandpa in the world!"
Grandpa Lin was taken aback for a moment, a spark of surprise flashing in his eyes.
"He really said that?"
"Yeah," Song Chuyi smiled. "He even gave me five grand because I came to visit you."
"I was planning to buy you a gift."
But when I went shopping, the stuff was either not great or way too expensive for me to buy.
He sighed. "If only there was a more affordable store around here."
Grandpa Lin sighed. "He only gave you five grand?"
"Yeah," Song Chuyi nodded.
Grandpa Lin sighed again. "Xiao Xu’s always been stubborn. Ever since the accident, he won’t take any money from the family."
Even the money to build the villa came from what he earned back when he was younger.
"That kid, Xiao Xu..."
It’s such a shame. The words were on the tip of Grandpa Lin’s tongue, but he held them back.
"Xiao Song, it looks like he has something to say to you. If he needs anything else, let me know."
Song Chuyi nodded eagerly. "Actually, there’s one more thing."
"It’s a real hassle to get stuff from down the mountain."
I was thinking, could we open a little store down there?
That way, I can take my husband down for a walk sometimes. It’s not good for him to be cooped up in the villa all the time.
Grandpa Lin agreed right away.
"Sure, I’ll have someone handle it."
"Don’t worry, the stuff in the new store won’t be too pricey."
Xiao Xu won’t take my money, and he only gave you five grand for a gift. He probably doesn’t have much cash on him.
You don’t need to spend that five grand on a gift for me.
Keep it. When the store opens next week, use that money to get something Xiao Xu would like.
Song Chuyi didn’t argue and smiled. "Got it, Grandpa."
"My husband said you’re the most generous, understanding, and loving grandpa, and he was spot-on!"
Grandpa Lin was happy with Song Chuyi’s compliment and even handed him a black card before leaving.
The funds were unlimited, but they could only be used in emergencies.
Song Chuyi nodded in agreement.
After bidding farewell to Grandpa Lin, Song Chuyi picked up some beef on his way home.
By the time he got home, it was already noon. Lin Xu was in his wheelchair, watering the plants with a watering can.
Song Chuyi gave him a quick hello before heading to the kitchen.
Lin Xu set the watering can down and glanced over at Song Chuyi’s back, his expression softening.
A few minutes later, Song Chuyi poked his head out from the living room.
"Hey, Lin Xu, I made some stir-fried beef. Want to give it a try?"
Lin Xu maneuvered his wheelchair to the dining table. He watched Song Chuyi bustling around the kitchen, his gaze darkening.
"What were you doing this morning?"
"Grocery shopping." Song Chuyi gestured toward the stir-fried beef in the middle of the table. "That’s it."
"Did it really take you all morning just to buy some beef?"
Song Chuyi sat down, cupping his face with both hands, looking completely unbothered.
"Don’t you know how far away we are from everything?"
"I had to hike down the mountain, and then it was a long walk just to get to the bus stop."
"And the bus is ancient and moves at a snail’s pace."
Lin Xu was speechless.
Since moving into this villa, he hadn’t ventured down the mountain once.
He chose this place for its remoteness, with no proper roads leading up or down the mountain, cutting him off from the outside world.
He had been hiding in this little bubble, avoiding reality.
Surprisingly, his grandfather was adamant this time, sending someone straight to him.
Lin Xu pursed his lips and, after a moment, spat out a single word.
"Idiot."
Spending all that time hiking down the mountain just to buy some beef? What a waste.
Lin Xu picked up his chopsticks and took a bite. Surprisingly, it was delicious.
The beef was tender and coated in a flavorful sauce, bursting with taste in his mouth.
Lin Xu fell silent, but his chopsticks moved faster as he dug into the meal.
After lunch, Song Chuyi headed out to tend to the grape vines.
Meanwhile, Lin Xu was near the door, working on his laptop.
The sound of machinery shattered the peaceful silence of the forest, coming from somewhere nearby.
"What's that noise?" Lin Xu asked.
Song Chuyi stepped outside to check and returned, saying, "There’s a construction crew setting up. Looks like they’re planning to build a small factory here."
"A factory?" Lin Xu frowned. This wasn’t something that had happened in his past life.
This mountain was owned by Lin Real Estate. Despite their strained relationship over the past two years, his grandfather would never have allowed anyone to disturb him here.
Except for Song Chuyi, of course.
He still couldn’t understand why his grandfather had chosen Song Chuyi.
Now, a small factory was suddenly being built nearby… Could this be a result of the butterfly effect from his rebirth?
Lin Xu lost himself in thought, while Song Chuyi, crouched in the corner, felt a twinge of guilt.
"Xiaotong, luckily Lin Xu didn’t press me, or I would’ve been caught!"
Xiaotong: "Why are you lying, host?"
"You know, the villain really hates dishonesty."
Song Chuyi: "When have I ever lied?"
"There *is* a factory being built outside."
Xiaotong: "..."
Song Chuyi mentally patted the little white bun and began counting on his fingers.
"Lin Xu did say that Grandfather Lin was a good grandfather. I’m not lying about that."
"And before the accident, Lin Xu really did love drinking milk tea."
"All of this is part of the backstory, right?"
"I’m not lying. I’m just repeating things that weren’t directly said."
"And I didn’t say *Lin Xu* wanted a small mall, did I? I said *I* wanted it."
"So, which part of what I said was a lie?"
Xiaotong: "The system’s a bit glitchy. Give me a sec, host, I need to run some code."
Song Chuyi nodded and went back to tending his grapes.
The noise from the construction was pretty loud. In the past, it would have definitely annoyed Lin Xu.
But now, as Lin Xu watched Song Chuyi busily working in the corner, he felt an unexpected sense of peace.
The sun was shining brightly, and the villa was surrounded by towering trees, with only a few beams of light filtering through.
The light fell perfectly on Song Chuyi, giving his skin a warm, radiant glow.
It seemed a bit warm, as a light sheen of sweat glistened on his forehead, and even his pale, slender hands were slightly pink.
His expression was focused, as if he were handling the most precious treasure in the world, even though he was just planting grapes.
In a moment of clarity, Lin Xu realized why his grandfather had chosen Song Chuyi.
When he wasn’t showing his menacing side, Song Chuyi was breathtakingly handsome.
It was a beauty so captivating that it made people overlook his worst faults.
Lin Xu bit his lip. No, that wasn’t right—this guy was dangerous, and he couldn’t let himself be fooled by him.
"Song Chuyi."
He called out his name softly.
Song Chuyi turned and flashed him a radiant smile.
It was so blinding, it seemed to outshine the sun above.
Lin Xu’s heart skipped a beat.
