Chapter 466 The Wallflower of Pure Love (8)

Gu Yongnian stopped mid-stride as he was about to walk forward.

He glanced back, and seeing no one following, nonchalantly closed the door and locked it.

    "They'll be coming in soon."

He turned slightly away, avoiding Song Chuyi's gaze, and only said, "Hurry up and change."

A hint of confusion flashed in Song Chuyi's eyes.

Clutching his T-shirt, he took two steps forward.

    "Aren't we changing together?"

Gu Yongnian shook his head. "You change first."

Song Chuyi thought for a moment, then walked around the locker room bench to stand in front of him.

He lifted his jersey, showing a glimpse of his slender waist.

    "Really not changing together?"

    He pressed again.

Gu Yongnian gave a soft laugh and shook his head.

"I'll watch the door for you. You change first."

With that, he walked toward the door.

Even though no one could just walk in,

he still stood guard by it.

Song Chuyi studied his back, his puzzlement growing.

After a few seconds, he lowered his hand and shot a sideways look at Gu Yongnian before returning to his locker.

He quickly changed, put away his jersey, then tersely said, "Done."

Gu Yongnian waited several beats before turning.

    "Wait for me a moment."

He strode to his locker, grabbed his clothes, and changed in quick motions.

Song Chuyi didn’t look away the entire time, his stare bold and unwavering.

Gu Yongnian didn’t appear bothered. Once dressed, he asked, "Feel like eating tonight?"

Song Chuyi thought for a moment. "Know anywhere quiet?"

"I know this quiet little private spot."

"It's never crowded, but it's kind of off the beaten path. You up for that?"

Song Chuyi nodded and said, "Sure."

Gu Yongnian grabbed his bag at that, headed to the door first, and unlocked it.

Outside, the hallway was empty, the team still out on the court, lively as ever.

Gu Yongnian turned back to look at Song Chuyi. "Wanna walk together?"

Song Chuyi walked to the door with his bag and smiled. "Since when does Gu God care about this?"

    Gu Yongnian chuckled softly. "Nope."

    "You care?"

Song Chuyi shook his head. "Nah."

He took a step forward, passing Gu Yongnian before turning back with a smile.

"Nobody gives a damn about me."

As soon as he finished speaking and turned to leave, Gu Yongnian caught his wrist.

He instinctively stopped and looked back at him.

Gu Yongnian's smile faded, his expression serious.

    "I do care."

He emphasized those two words heavily, like he was burning those words into Song Chuyi’s mind.

Song Chuyi's expression faltered for a second, and he fell silent for a moment.

Then he quickly smiled again. "What good is it if just you care?"

Gu Yongnian's grip on his wrist tightened slightly, his tone extremely earnest.

"Plenty of people will give a damn about you."

Song Chuyi didn’t argue or agree.

Gu Yongnian stared at him for a few seconds before slowly releasing his hand.

His eyes crinkled with a smile again as he murmured, "I'll call the driver to take us there."

    Song Chuyi nodded.

He stepped out first, with Gu Yongnian following a step behind.

The driver was idling at the curb.

Gu Yongnian opened the rear door and looked at Song Chuyi.

    "Hop in."

Song Chuyi didn’t turn him down and took him up on it, sliding into the car.

Gu Yongnian climbed in after him, planting himself right next to him.

The car was spacious, with some space between them.

Song Chuyi sat by the window on the left side, looking out the window.

Many people noticed the car, or more accurately, noticed Gu Yongnian.

This man drew attention wherever he went.

Song Chuyi’s long lashes trembled faintly as he withdrew his gaze.

The car glided smoothly the whole way to the foot of Kongling Temple.

There was a small courtyard house, not very big, with the main hall right across from the entrance—where meals were served.

To the left of the main hall was the kitchen, and to the right was the storage room.

When they arrived, tendrils of smoke curled upward from the chimney.

Song Chuyi saw just one chef working in the kitchen.

The chef was busy, likely preparing their meal.

A one-chef private restaurant was unusual—most had at least one assistant. Song Chuyi thought idly.

Gu Yongnian, next to him, seemed to sense his confusion and explained, "It’s just him here."

"He was once a top-tier chef, but now he only runs this small restaurant."

Song Chuyi perked up with interest. "A small restaurant?"

"This barely looks like a restaurant."

Gu Yongnian led Song Chuyi toward the main hall as he said, "It’s exclusively for Kongling Temple’s monks."

"No fancy decor, so it doesn’t resemble a restaurant."

Song Chuyi gave a slow, thoughtful nod.

Upon entering the main hall, Song Chuyi noticed three round tables set up inside.

"There are no private rooms here," Gu Yongnian said beside him. "The monks from Kongling Temple all dine in this hall."

Song Chuyi took a seat, resting his chin on his hands as he smiled up at Gu Yongnian.

"Then why did you bring me here?"

Gu Yongnian pushed up his sleeves, baring his toned arms and the Buddhist beads around his wrist.

"What if I told you I don’t know either? Would you believe me?"

Song Chuyi held his gaze, silent.

Gu Yongnian let out a quiet chuckle. "It’s true."

"When you accepted my invitation, my instant instinct was to bring you here for a meal."

Song Chuyi then spoke up, "Earlier, you said you were the next abbot of Kongling Temple?"

"Won’t you inherit your uncle’s business?"

Gu Yongnian placed his right hand over his left wrist, his thumb gently flicking the Buddhist prayer beads.

His lashes lowered, his voice carrying a cool edge.

    "Thirty years old."

"After thirty, I will become the succeeding abbot of the Temple of Emptiness."

Song Chuyi glanced at the prayer beads. "Does your father know?"

"Hmm," Gu Yongnian replied softly. "They're aware."

    Song Chuyi got more curious.

    "They don't object?"

The Gu Corporation was so large, and Gu Yongnian was the only heir in the Gu family. How could his father possibly agree to let him become a monk?

"They did," Gu Yongnian admitted openly. "But I convinced them."

Song Chuyi's interest deepened, his exceptionally beautiful eyes twinkling with starlight.

    "How did you convince them?"

Gu Yongnian slowly lifted his gaze, as if something terrifying flashed in his eyes, but it vanished in an instant.

"I said I wanted to keep the Sacred Tree company."

His tone was earnest, with complete sincerity.

"To spend the rest of my life with him."

    Song Chuyi paused briefly.

He quickly turned his head away, gazing outside.

"That's nothing but a coffee tree that can't bloom or bear fruit."

He muttered, as if answering Gu Yongnian, or perhaps trying to convince himself.

Gu Yongnian responded with a quiet "Hmm." "I know, but I want to be with him."

    Song Chuyi fell silent.

Is Gu Yongnian some kind of weirdo?
