byChapter 14: The Insomniac CEO’s Canary Has Gone Wild (Part 1)
Lin Xin walked extremely fast, and it wasn’t until they were almost at the parking lot that Song Chuyi caught up with him.
"Lin Xin!"
Song Chuyi called out to Lin Xin, "Wait for me!"
Lin Xin paused, turned around, and looked at Song Chuyi with a resentful expression in his eyes.
"What do you want chasing after me for?"
Song Chuyi patted his shoulder and said with a smile, "Just wanted to chat."
"I’ll buy you some milk tea. Want some?"
Lin Xin gave him a strange look before reluctantly saying, "Fine, since you’re buying me milk tea."
Song Chuyi nodded repeatedly, "Sure, sure, let’s go, let’s go."
The two walked out of the parking lot and went to the milk tea shop next to Gu's Building.
After ordering their milk tea and sitting down, Song Chuyi curiously asked, "Why are you afraid of Gu Bing?"
Lin Xin’s eyes filled with even more resentment, "Aren’t you afraid?"
Song Chuyi shook his head, "I’m not afraid at all!"
Lin Xin snorted coldly, "That’s because you haven’t seen Brother Gu when he’s sleep-deprived and going crazy. If you had, you’d be afraid too!"
Song Chuyi became even more curious.
"He goes crazy when he’s sleep-deprived?"
He hadn’t seen that yet.
"Yes." Lin Xin’s lips were slightly pale.
Song Chuyi could tell Lin Xin was genuinely scared, "Since you’re afraid of him, why do you still pursue him?"
"You!" Lin Xin glared at him, "But Brother Gu is so handsome when he’s not crazy, and we grew up together. How can I just stop liking him?"
Going to see Gu Bing had become a habit for him, and habits aren’t easily broken.
Song Chuyi nodded thoughtfully, "Do you have a job?"
"Nope." Lin Xin looked disdainful, "My family is rich; I could spend lavishly for ten lifetimes and never run out of money. Why would I need to work?"
"Work is for people like you."
As he spoke, his arrogance grew, and he even hummed lightly.
"You make a good point," Song Chuyi smiled, "You should really embrace that spirit more!"
Lin Xin was taken aback, "Embrace that spirit?"
"Exactly!" Song Chuyi slapped the table, "Think about it, who knows you have enough money to last ten lifetimes?"
"Your relatives and friends, and now me. Don’t you think that’s too few people?"
"You should let the whole world know, so everyone can envy you!"
Lin Xin felt a bit dizzy. Song Chuyi seemed to have a point, but also didn’t seem to?
"Think about it, even the best wine needs someone to taste it. Your wealth means nothing if no one knows about it!"
Lin Xin nodded blankly, "What you say makes sense."
"So what should I do?"
"I heard Orange TV is holding auditions recently. You should try out," Song Chuyi suggested seriously, "Auditions are very popular these days, almost everyone is participating."
"If you join, more and more people will know how wealthy you are!"
Lin Xin felt something was off, but Song Chuyi’s suggestion was tempting.
Money only has meaning when others see it.
"Alright, I’ll go audition right now!"
Lin Xin slapped the table and stood up abruptly.
"I’ll show everyone how wealthy I am and that I’m the perfect match for Brother Gu!"
He snorted, "As for you, you’re just a person who sells their body for money!"
"Brother Gu definitely won’t like you!"
Song Chuyi smiled and asked, "Aren’t you afraid of Gu Bing when he’s crazy?"
Lin Xin choked, "Song Chuyi, you’re really annoying, hmph!"
He glared at him, "Just wait, I’ll make sure Brother Gu sees who truly deserves him!"
With that, Lin Xin turned and walked away.
Song Chuyi watched his back and shook his head.
"Clearly terrified of Gu Bing, yet still wants to be with him. How foolish."
It was a good opportunity for Lin Xin to shift her focus and for him to break free from the spell of Gu Bing.
After seeing Lin Xin off, Song Chuyi checked the time; only five minutes remained of the half hour Gu Bing had allotted.
It was time for him to go back.
When Song Chuyi returned to the office, exactly half an hour had passed.
Gu Bing looked up from his documents at Song Chuyi, raising an eyebrow slightly.
"What did you do?"
"I went to chat with little Lin Xin." Song Chuyi quickly walked to the seat opposite Gu Bing, resting his chin on his hands. "Little Lin Xin is really scared of you."
Gu Bing's eyes narrowed slightly. "Lin Xin... little friend?"
"Do you know how old he is?"
Song Chuyi shook his head. "No idea."
"He's twenty-three, a year older than you."
Song Chuyi: ...
"Not calling him little friend anymore?" A hint of amusement flashed in Gu Bing's eyes, unnoticed even by himself.
Song Chuyi cleared his throat. "Brother Gu, why is Lin Xin so afraid of you?"
"Nothing much," Gu Bing said casually. "Just that one time when I was in a bad mood and almost killed him."
Song Chuyi: ? ? ?
No wonder Xiaotong said Gu Bing was a villain. Being in a bad mood and almost killing someone is the epitome of a bad guy.
Gu Bing had been observing his expression and was somewhat surprised to see not just shock but also a hint of exasperation, raising an eyebrow.
"You're not scared?"
Song Chuyi shook his head. "I'm not scared."
"When I lose control, I really do kill." Gu Bing tried to instill fear in Song Chuyi with these words, but the intense gaze and the sudden tightening of his grip betrayed his inner turmoil.
"I'm not scared." Song Chuyi straightened his expression, looking serious. "Brother Gu, I will never be afraid of you."
Besides, Gu Bing definitely couldn't beat him.
Of course, he only thought this to himself.
After all, saying it out loud would upset Gu Bing.
The sixth tactic of pleasing the boss: Never show that you are better than the boss in any situation; always know how to appear weaker.
At this moment, Song Chuyi didn't realize that these words conveyed a different meaning to Gu Bing.
Only great courage could make someone unafraid of another, and such courage often stemmed from overwhelming feelings.
Song Chuyi likes me.
Gu Bing came to this conclusion, and his gaze towards Song Chuyi became complicated.
"You..." Something lodged in his throat, preventing him from speaking.
Song Chuyi tilted his head, a look of confusion crossing his delicate face.
"What about me?"
"Nothing." Gu Bing looked away, his heartbeat suddenly quickening. "Nothing."
For the first time, he realized that someone's affection towards him was a responsibility he wanted to bear but wasn't sure if he could handle.
Amidst these thoughts, only one sentence emerged.
"Song Chuyi, stay by my side and learn well."
Stay by my side always.
