Chapter 13: The Insomniac CEO's Canary Has Gone Wild (Part 1)

The next day, Gu Bing woke up early.

Seeing that he was awake, Song Chuyi naturally got up with him. After all, he didn’t need sleep and would follow whatever Gu Bing did.

Upon arriving at the company, Gu Bing had Wang Assistant bring in several books, all related to management.

Wang Assistant handed the books to Song Chuyi and whispered, “The BOSS asked me to prepare these for you.”

    Song Chuyi: ?

Holding the books, he looked at Gu Bing and tentatively asked, “All for me?”

While flipping through some documents, Gu Bing replied, “Yes, they’re for you. Now stay by my side and study well.”

    Song Chuyi: …

"Okay," he responded listlessly. The antagonist is really smart, somehow guessing he had sneaked out to play, even though he had been very careful.

To supervise Song Chuyi’s studying, Gu Bing specially arranged for a desk to be set up beside his own for Song Chuyi’s use.

The two desks were so close that Song Chuyi could see Gu Bing signing documents just by turning his head slightly.

From this angle, he could perfectly see Gu Bing’s profile, his jawline bathed in light, almost flawless.

This was an exceptionally handsome face, yet beneath it lay a restless soul unable to find peace.

Perhaps because he had slept well last night, Gu Bing’s brows were relaxed, and the light cast a gentle glow upon him.

    "What are you looking at?"

Gu Bing’s voice suddenly broke the silence. "Focus on your books, don’t look at me."

Feeling his ears grow warm, Song Chuyi quickly responded and lowered his head, staring blankly at the book in front of him.

He truly had no interest in these management books, and soon found the text before him as tangled as a ball of yarn.

Finally, unable to continue, he cleared his throat and spoke up, “Brother Gu, can I switch to another book?”

Having just finished signing a document, Gu Bing casually asked, “What do you want to read?”

"Hmm, something like programming?" Song Chuyi ventured.

Gu Bing paused, turning to look at Song Chuyi.

"If I remember correctly, you studied liberal arts."

Song Chuyi nodded, “Yes, but I want to read about programming now. Is that not allowed?”

    Gu Bing remained silent.

After a moment, he sighed softly, “Fine.”

He stood up, pulled a book from a nearby shelf, and placed it in front of Song Chuyi. “If you want to read it, go ahead.”

Song Chuyi smiled brightly, “Great, thanks, Brother Gu.”

He lowered his head and began reading with enthusiasm.

Seeing that he was engrossed, Gu Bing left for a meeting.

His work was busy, most of his time spent in meetings and signing documents, occasionally traveling. Recently, with the company’s business steadily progressing, he hadn’t needed to travel much, otherwise, he might not have had any time to spend with him.

After Gu Bing left for the meeting, Song Chuyi was alone in the office.

Flipping through the book, he was surprised to find Gu Bing’s annotations.

These insights were profound, hinting at the threshold of artificial intelligence.

“Pretty smart,” Song Chuyi muttered, continuing to read.

However, he hadn’t read for long when the office door suddenly opened from the outside.

Thinking it was Gu Bing, Song Chuyi smiled and looked up, only to find a stranger standing there.

The newcomer was a teenager, reasonably good-looking, but the arrogance in his eyes marred his appearance, giving off a sense of hostility.

Seeing Song Chuyi, he first froze, then angrily demanded, “Who are you? Why are you in Brother Gu’s office?”

Song Chuyi pointed at himself, “You’re asking me?”

“Who else would I ask!” The teenager strode over and slapped the table. “Speak!”

“My name is Song Chuyi,” he replied with a smile. “I’m Brother Gu’s canary.”

Indeed, he hadn’t forgotten his identity!

The teenager’s eyes widened, “No! Impossible!”

“How could Brother Gu keep a canary!”

“Who sent you to seduce Brother Gu? Shameless!”

“I’m not a seductress,” Song Chuyi murmured quietly. He had always wondered why humans feared monsters yet used terms like ‘seductress’ to describe their own kind.

    Humans are indeed strange creatures.

He silently complained in his heart, completely ignoring the angry teenager.

Seeing that he was being ignored, the teenager raised his hand to strike.

The sound of his palm cutting through the air abruptly stopped mid-air.

Song Chuyi caught the teenager's wrist, still smiling warmly, "Hitting people isn't nice."

"You!" The teenager gritted his teeth, broke free from Song Chuyi's grip, and took a half-step back.

"Are you here to see Gu Bing?" Song Chuyi asked curiously, "What's your name? Who are you to him?"

"Hmph! My name is Lin Xin. I'm Brother Gu's childhood sweetheart; we've grown up together!"

Lin Xin sized up Song Chuyi, admitting to himself that this vixen was indeed very attractive, with delicate features and captivating eyes that made one's heart flutter when she smiled.

    But... he wasn't bad either!

Lin Xin placed his hands on his hips and huffed coldly, "I'll have you know, Brother Gu is just playing with you. In the end, he's still mine!"

Song Chuyi nodded thoughtfully, "Since you've grown up with him, do you know he suffers from insomnia?"

Lin Xin's face turned red, "What do you mean? Are you questioning my status as his childhood friend?"

    "Of course I know!"

"Then since you know, have you done anything to help him?" Song Chuyi genuinely asked.

Though he was asking sincerely, Lin Xin seemed to feel insulted, with tears welling up in his eyes.

"Of course I have! I hired the best psychologist, but the doctor said it was useless."

    "But Brother Gu..."

As if remembering something, Lin Xin's body actually trembled.

    He was afraid.

Song Chuyi was puzzled and about to ask more when he heard Gu Bing's voice from the doorway.

    "What are you doing?"

Lin Xin quickly wiped his face and bowed to Gu Bing, "Hello, Brother Gu. I just remembered I have something to do, so I'll be going now!"

With that, he hastily left, leaving Song Chuyi bewildered.

Gu Bing raised an eyebrow slightly, somewhat surprised, "Impressive."

He had thought Song Chuyi would be bullied and had paused his meeting to rush back, only to find that the little canary had managed to drive Lin Xin away.

    "Well done."

A smile tugged at the corner of Gu Bing's mouth, clearly pleased, "You can rest for a while."

"Can I go for a walk?" Song Chuyi asked.

Gu Bing glanced at the time, "Thirty minutes."

"Sure thing!" Song Chuyi responded, quickly heading out to catch up with Lin Xin.

He was genuinely curious about why Lin Xin was afraid of Gu Bing!
