Chapter 16: The Insomniac CEO's Canary Runs Wild (16)

Song Chuyi felt the warmth as he was held in Gu Bing’s arms.

This feeling was unfamiliar to him; he couldn’t quite describe it. The only certainty was that he didn’t mind the kisses.

That book on pleasing one’s benefactor really did work—Gu Bing had indeed calmed down.

Song Chuyi tentatively reached out and patted Gu Bing’s shoulder.

"Kissed we have, now it’s time to sleep, right?"

Gu Bing’s eyes were still slightly red, but the hostility in his brows had faded considerably.

He responded softly with an "Mm," then pulled Song Chuyi into his embrace. "Stay with me."

    Song Chuyi obediently agreed.

Gu Bing lay back down, his breathing gradually steadying.

The warmth from the embrace reminded him that he wasn’t alone; Song Chuyi was by his side.

And he said he would always be there.

    Yes, always.

Always meant forever, through all lifetimes.

Gu Bing’s lips curved slightly, a hint of satisfaction appearing on his face.

The sense of fulfillment washed away the stress from work and dispersed years of loneliness.

Darkness enveloped him, and he no longer resisted, allowing it to pull him into a peaceful dream.

    Gu Bing fell asleep.

Seeing that he was asleep, Song Chuyi quietly sighed in relief.

Gu Bing was falling asleep faster and faster. At this rate, he should soon return to normal sleeping patterns, right?

As long as Gu Bing slept well, he wouldn’t think about destroying the world.

Then his mission would be complete, and he could finally get some sleep too!

Song Chuyi could already imagine himself sleeping soundly, but for now, he couldn’t fall asleep and wasn’t even a bit sleepy!

He thought about playing with his phone, but as soon as he moved, Gu Bing’s eyelashes fluttered, as if he might wake up.

    Song Chuyi immediately stopped moving.

    Gu Bing settled back down.

Song Chuyi sighed. It seemed he wouldn’t be able to play games on his phone tonight.

Bored, he decided to mentally work on the AI code for this world.

Outside, the sky was pitch black. The moon was obscured by clouds, and a clap of thunder sounded as rain poured down like large beans.

The rain continued into the next day, even when Gu Bing woke up.

Glancing outside, he said, "Looks like we won’t be able to go back to Jing City today."

He looked at Song Chuyi. "I need to visit the branch office. You stay in the hotel and rest."

"I’ll come back after I finish with the company and take you to the hot springs."

Lin City’s hot springs were famous. With such heavy rain, they couldn’t leave today, so they might as well enjoy the indoor hot springs.

Gu Bing quickly arranged the day’s plans, but little did he know that as soon as he left the hotel, Song Chuyi slipped out too.

He couldn’t just sit around in the hotel alone.

Although it was raining outside, walking around in the rain was somewhat interesting.

Song Chuyi wandered aimlessly until he found himself at the entrance of a secluded alley.

Holding a black umbrella, the raindrops made a pleasant, crisp sound as they hit the fabric.

Someone ran out of the alley. Seeing Song Chuyi, he paused, then raised his voice.

"Song Chuyi? What are you doing here?"

Song Chuyi blinked and pointed at himself. "Do you know me?"

A flash of jealousy crossed the man’s eyes. More hurried footsteps echoed from the alley, and he gritted his teeth before smiling. "You forgot me? I’m your high school classmate, Sun Li!"

Song Chuyi sifted through the original body’s memories and finally found a trace of this person.

In high school, the original body had been invisible, not close to any classmates. He was surprised that someone named Sun Li remembered him.

Song Chuyi held the umbrella with one hand and nodded slightly. "Hello."

Sun Li rubbed his hands, his clothes drenched and disheveled from the rain.

He smiled ingratiatingly. "Song Chuyi, since we’re classmates, can you help me with something?"

"What kind of help?" Song Chuyi asked.

Two men in black ran out of the alley, spotted Sun Li, and shouted.

    "Sun Li, don't run!"

Sun Li gritted his teeth and quickly walked to Song Chuyi's back, pushing him forward.

    "Big brothers, how is he?"

The two big men exchanged a glance, and one of them looked at Song Chuyi and asked, "Are you sure you're willing?"

Sun Li stood behind Song Chuyi and whispered, "Old classmate, help me out."

Song Chuyi glanced at him, "What if I don't help?"

A hint of viciousness flashed in Sun Li's eyes as he pressed the blade through the rain against Song Chuyi's waist.

"Then don't blame me for being rude."

    Song Chuyi: ...

"Do you still lose to these two with a knife?"

Sun Li ran his hand through his hair in frustration, "No more talk, just say you're willing."

Song Chuyi shrugged and looked at the two big men ahead, a smile playing on his lips, "I can help him."

The two big men sized up Song Chuyi, and the one who had spoken earlier continued.

    "Then come with us."

"Sun Li, this debt is settled now. Don't let us see you again next time."

Sun Li nodded repeatedly, pushed Song Chuyi forward, and ran off quickly.

Song Chuyi turned his head to look at his retreating figure, then turned back to the man in black, "Did he gamble?"

"Kid, he has already sold you to us to pay off his gambling debts. Come with us now," the man in black said.

Song Chuyi played with the handle of his umbrella, "I only said I could help him, not that I would sell myself to pay his debts."

The umbrella handle spun lightly in his fingers, and the rainwater splashed off the umbrella onto the two men in black.

The man in black sneered, "That's not up to you anymore."

They moved simultaneously, thinking they could easily subdue the young man.

However, a minute later, both were lying on the ground, sharp umbrella tips pressed against their foreheads.

The rain had drenched the young man's hair, making his eyes appear strikingly beautiful.

This ruthless young man was undoubtedly good-looking; otherwise, they wouldn't have agreed so readily to Sun Li selling him to them.

But they hadn't expected such a fierce attack from someone so good-looking.

Song Chuyi smiled, "Helping him means defeating you."

"But it seems he doesn't appreciate it much. What a pity."

It was rare to encounter a high school classmate who remembered the original self. He genuinely wanted to help, but unfortunately, the person was an ungrateful gambler.

The man in black clutched his stomach and spoke with a show of bravado, "Do you know who we work for?"

"I don't," Song Chuyi chuckled softly, "It doesn't matter."

With the biggest villain capable of destroying the world by his side, why should he care about some minor villains?

He opened the umbrella again, shielding himself from the rain, a faint smile on his face.

"But you can tell your boss that my name is Song Chuyi. Feel free to come find me."
