Chapter 127: The Night of the Wedding, the Crazy Antagonist Rebirth (11)
by 棠棠Chapter 127: The Night of the Wedding, the Crazy Antagonist Rebirth (11)
Lin Xu felt a lump in his throat, like something was stuck there.
I’m a patient; isn’t it normal for me to sleep a lot?
Lin Xu hadn’t realized how easily he had come to accept his disability as a fact of life.
So what if I sleep a lot, like fourteen hours out of twenty-four?
Lin Xu snorted, “If you’re bored, then…”
He racked his brain but couldn’t think of anything for Song Chuyi to do around the villa.
The yard had already been tilled, the veggies planted, and the grape trellis built.
Come to think of it, there wasn’t much else to do.
In my past life, I had plenty to do—insulting Song Chuyi with words every day.
Now, instead of insulting me, he’s suddenly being nice for no reason.
For the first time, Lin Xu felt helpless. He waved a hand dismissively, “Forget it.”
“Your call.”
Song Chuyi grinned, “Hey, Lin Xu, try a bite of my roasted sweet potato—it’s really good.”
Lin Xu had meant to refuse, but when he looked up, he saw a pair of bright, expectant eyes.
The words died on his lips.
He lowered his head, eyeing the golden sweet potato in front of him, hesitated for a moment, and then took a bite.
Soft, fragrant, and sweet, with a light charred flavor.
He had to admit, it was the best roasted sweet potato he’d ever tasted.
Without thinking, his hand reached out and grabbed Song Chuyi’s hand.
Or rather, he grabbed the sweet potato from Song Chuyi’s hand.
Without looking at Song Chuyi, he finished the entire sweet potato.
“Want some milk tea?” Song Chuyi asked, offering it to him.
Lin Xu’s ears turned red, surprised that he had actually finished the whole sweet potato.
He took the milk tea and, almost defiantly, took a big gulp.
“When did you spot me?”
His voice was muffled, and he still didn’t look up at Song Chuyi.
“A kid just told me,” Song Chuyi said, bending down with a serious expression. “Lin Xu, you’re really amazing, you know that?”
Lin Xu was taken aback. “What?”
It had been a long time since anyone had called him amazing.
Back when he was into extreme sports, people would always tell him he was "amazing." Everyone admired him, and everyone wished they could be like him.
But after the accident, he never heard that praise again.
All he heard now were words like "waste," "cripple," and "ruined."
Lin Xu’s thoughts grew complicated. He wasn’t sure if this was Song Chuyi’s roundabout way of insulting him.
But he had to admit, for a moment, his heart skipped a beat.
"Why are you saying that?"
His voice was a little hoarse, maybe from the overly sweet milk tea drying out his throat.
Song Chuyi said seriously, "You followed me, and I didn’t even notice."
"Did you make more adjustments to your wheelchair after you got back yesterday?"
"There wasn’t any dirt on your wheelchair today, and no leaves on you either."
Lin Xu looked away, his ears turning red, and muttered, "Yeah, I made some adjustments."
"Amazing!" Song Chuyi gushed, showering him with praise.
"You’re a freaking genius!"
"If other people knew how amazing my husband is, they’d be so jealous."
...
Lin Xu’s face flushed from all the praise. He pursed his lips. "But I’m still disabled."
"So what?" Song Chuyi said confidently. "Do you think able-bodied people are as capable as you?"
"If anyone tried to follow me, I’d catch them right away!"
"Don’t forget, I’m a top-notch thug, and we thugs are all about staying alert!"
Lin Xu found himself getting distracted by Song Chuyi’s words.
He started to wonder if maybe he really was pretty amazing.
At least, none of the people he knew could have modified a wheelchair’s smart mode that quickly.
After a barrage of praise, Song Chuyi gave Lin Xu’s hand a pat.
"Alright, we’re sold out for today. Let’s go pick a spot for the shop."
Lin Xu snapped back to reality and frowned slightly. "Are we really going through with this?"
"Of course!" Song Chuyi thumped his chest. "We thugs always keep our word. If we say we’re going to do something, we do it."
"Now that we’ve decided to open a shop, we’re doing it."
"Come on, let’s go."
He didn’t need to push Lin Xu’s wheelchair.
Lin Xu didn’t need help. He controlled the wheelchair himself and followed Song Chuyi, still holding the milk tea Song had given him.
The two of them wandered around the city, and eventually, Song Chuyi settled on a spot near the city center but closer to the outskirts.
As it turned out, the land also belonged to Lin Real Estate.
After finding the perfect spot, Song Chuyi turned to Lin Xu with an expectant look.
"Lin Xu, my husband~"
"Can you ask Grandfather if I can open a shop here?"
"You're the best, the greatest~"
Lin Xu's lips twitched, unable to resist Song Chuyi's playful teasing. He reluctantly agreed.
He pulled out his phone, hesitated for a moment, and then dialed Grandfather Lin.
The call was answered quickly.
Lin Xu briefly explained the shop, and Grandfather Lin immediately responded, "Sure, I'll get someone to handle it."
"Yeah," Lin Xu replied coolly, just as Song Chuyi snatched the phone from him.
"Grandfather, it's Song Chuyi!"
"My husband and I are preparing to open a bubble tea shop. Come visit us when we open, okay?"
"I'm doing well, Grandfather. You take care of yourself too, okay?"
Listening to Song Chuyi and his grandfather exchange warm words, Lin Xu felt that strange twinge of discomfort again.
How could Song Chuyi seem closer to his grandfather than he did, as the actual grandson?
After Song Chuyi finished chatting with Grandfather Lin and handed the phone back to Lin Xu, he held the phone, seeing that the call hadn't been hung up yet. Rarely, he spoke up.
"Grandfather, I'm doing well on my side. Don't worry."
"Take care of yourself."
After hanging up, he had no idea that Grandfather Lin was moved to tears by those words.
His grandson had actually taken the initiative to share his life with him.
Thinking about the bubble tea shop they were planning to open, Grandfather Lin immediately reached out to arrange everything.
After hanging up the phone, Lin Xu looked at Song Chuyi.
"What's next?"
Without realizing it, he had started to look forward to whatever wild ideas Song Chuyi came up with.
Song Chuyi grinned mischievously. "Next, we're going to start spreading some rumors!"
Lin Xu: ?!
Then Lin Xu saw firsthand how easily Song Chuyi could chat up anyone and spin a tale.
At the bus stop, Song Chuyi struck up conversations with the elderly people waiting for the bus.
"Hey, Uncle, check out my nail clippers. I snagged them for just fifty cents."
"Where'd you get them? There's this outdoor market on the outskirts where everything's a steal."
"It's not far—just hop on the No. 5 bus and you're there."
He could even strike up a chat with the kids coming home from school.
"Hey, kid, you into milk tea? I heard a new spot's opening up by the East Third Ring Road."
"And they're only a dollar a cup!"
…………
Lin Xu quietly trailed behind Song Chuyi in his wheelchair.
With Song Chuyi grabbing all the attention, no one even noticed Lin Xu.
Even if someone did glance at him, their attention was quickly pulled back to Song Chuyi, leaving Lin Xu unnoticed.
Lin Xu watched Song Chuyi, who seemed to have everyone's eyes on him.
Song Chuyi had this magnetic presence, like he was glowing, drawing everyone's gaze toward him.
Including Lin Xu's attention.
