Song Chuyi shivered, a chill running down his spine.
Lin Xu lives up to his reputation as a villain!
He doesn’t kill people directly; he just drives them to take their own lives.
Even the wealthy can't withstand the crushing weight of these fees, eventually driving them to jump.
From the beginning, Lin Xu never planned to survive. He’s using a form of self-destruction to exact his revenge on the world.
Song Chuyi sucked on a few pearls, chewing thoughtfully.
"Looks like I’ve got a serious problem on my hands."
He muttered under his breath.
The challenges in this world are tougher than he expected.
Luckily, he arrived early enough that there’s still time to turn things around.
Song Chuyi grabbed the milk tea and headed out.
The milk tea was way too sweet, almost like it was drowning in sugar.
He didn’t really like the taste, so he decided to find a trash can to toss it.
But after looking around for a bit, he still couldn’t spot a trash can.
Song Chuyi paused, thinking. He couldn’t just litter, could he?
"Big brother, are you looking for a trash can?" a shy child’s voice asked from beside him.
Song Chuyi glanced around but didn’t see anyone nearby.
"Big brother, I’m right here."
A pair of small, skinny hands waved in front of him.
Song Chuyi looked down to see a small child, barely reaching his knees.
The child was small and thin, but his eyes sparkled with curiosity as he gazed at the milk tea in Song Chuyi’s hand.
Song Chuyi nodded. "Yeah, I’m looking for a trash can."
The child’s eyes lit up even brighter. "Big brother, I can help you throw it away!"
"Sure, thanks." Song Chuyi handed the barely touched milk tea to the child and gave him a gentle pat on the head.
He pulled out a dollar and slipped it into the child’s hand. "Here, for your trouble."
The child froze, clearly surprised by the gesture from the kind older brother.
He shook his head rapidly. "No, no, I don’t need it."
"I really appreciate it, big brother!"
He bowed deeply and then darted off.
Song Chuyi pinched the one-yuan coin in his hand and tossed it up.
The coin quickly landed in his palm, showing the head side.
"Indeed, it's a bit troublesome," he muttered, pocketing the coin and turning to enter the mall.
The child ran all the way home with the milk tea in hand.
"Second Sister, we have milk tea to drink!"
A dark and slender girl walked out of the kitchen, "Where did you get it?"
"Did you steal it?"
The child shook his head vigorously, "No, no, a handsome big brother gave it to me."
He ran to the kitchen and took out two small bowls, pouring about two sips of milk tea into each bowl.
"Second Sister, try it quickly."
The girl hadn't had milk tea in a long time; the last time was when her eldest brother got married, and the two families shared a single cup.
Everyone could only take a tiny sip, but that sweet taste still lingered in her memory.
She swallowed hard, picked up the small bowl, and took a sip. There was a soft, chewy pearl inside.
She tentatively bit into it; it was slightly bouncy but incredibly delicious!
Her eyes lit up, "Let's put it aside for now, and we'll drink it together when Eldest Brother and Eldest Sister come back tonight."
"Uh-huh!" The child nodded vigorously.
He picked up his small bowl and took a sip, the sweet taste spreading in his mouth.
He couldn't help but think that if he could meet that handsome big brother again, it would be great.
He would definitely tell him that this was the sweetest water he had ever tasted.
——
Dusk was approaching, but Song Chuyi still hadn't returned.
Lin Xu sat in his wheelchair with a laptop on his lap, a series of complex numbers flashing and quickly disappearing on the screen.
He handled the information skillfully, occasionally glancing out the window.
Only after finishing the day's work did he frown and mutter, "Ran away?"
Just as he finished speaking, the large iron gate opened.
"Lin Xu, I'm back!"
An enthusiastic voice came from outside.
Lin Xu sneered, "You still know how to come back?"
"I definitely have to come back," Song Chuyi said as he walked in, carrying several bags. "I spent all five thousand today."
He put down the items and quickly moved to Lin Xu's side, squatting down.
"Honey, can we go over budget on our spending money?"
Lin Xu was silent for a moment.
"What did you get?" he couldn't help but ask.
"I picked up some seeds and a few snacks."
Song Chuyi rested his hands on Lin Xu's knees and leaned in, resting his chin on top of them.
He looked up at Lin Xu with a pout.
"Those snacks were a bit pricey."
"Also, the roads outside were tough to walk on, and now my legs are killing me."
"Could you give them a rub?"
Lin Xu was starting to lose track of what Song Chuyi was up to.
He even wondered if the guy had lost it.
Who asks someone with disabled legs to massage their sore legs?
Didn't he know that was a sensitive issue for people with disabilities?
Or was this some new way to mess with him?
It was certainly more devious than anything from his past life.
Lin Xu sneered. "Do it yourself."
"Alright," Song Chuyi muttered, "but I got you a gift too."
Lin Xu's interest was piqued. "What is it?"
Song Chuyi rummaged through the bag beside him and pulled out a showerhead.
"Here it is."
"With this showerhead, it'll be much easier to water the plants."
Lin Xu chuckled.
He wheeled away, completely ignoring Song Chuyi, who was still leaning on his knees.
As Lin Xu moved away, Song Chuyi nearly lost his balance but caught himself just in time.
After steadying himself, Song Chuyi stood up and carried the two large bags into the kitchen to sort them out.
Night deepened, and Lin Xu had already retired to bed.
The bedroom felt empty and chilly.
The mountain air was cold, and he was only covered by a thin blanket, with his hands left exposed.
In just a thin pair of pajamas, his hands were freezing and ached slightly.
He didn’t tuck his hands under the blanket, choosing instead to endure the waves of pain in a way that felt almost self-punishing.
Suddenly, a flicker of light from a fire appeared outside.
Lin Xu’s brow furrowed. Fire… Was Song Chuyi trying to burn him alive?
He braced himself and shifted into the wheelchair, his fingers tightening, his gaze dark and intense.
Moments later, Song Chuyi walked in carrying a basin of burning coals.
The coals crackled softly, the sound oddly jarring in the otherwise silent room.
"I brought you a basin of coals," Song Chuyi said, placing it near the bed but keeping a safe distance.
Then, he walked over to the window and cracked it open a bit.
"This should help warm up the room."
He turned to Lin Xu, surprised to see him already sitting in the wheelchair.
"Why aren’t you still in bed?"
"Are you trying to get to the bathroom?"
Lin Xu hadn’t expected Song Chuyi to bring coals and even open the window.
It seemed like Song Chuyi wasn’t actually trying to kill him after all.
But the memories of their past life resurfaced, snapping him back to reality.
"Don’t think that just because you’re trying to butter me up, I’ll give you an advance on your allowance."
Song Chuyi’s body tensed, and a glimmer of tears welled up in the corners of his eyes, making him look heartbreakingly vulnerable.
"Really, not even a tiny bit?"
He held up his hand, pinching his thumb and index finger together slightly, his voice softening with a mix of pleading and hurt.
"Can I get just a small advance?"
