Chapter 502: Wife Wife Wife Wife
by 棠棠Chapter 502 Wifey Wifey Wifey Wifey
Song Chuyi averted his gaze and gave a light cough.
"My boba’s here. Boss Gu, mind if I grab my takeout real quick?"
Gu Yongnian glanced up at him but said nothing.
Silence meant yes.
Song Chuyi quickly took that as a yes and immediately stood up to head out for his boba.
Gu Yongnian watched his retreating figure, his gaze turning intense.
As the office door closed, Gu Yongnian’s expression briefly faltered, and he muttered two words under his breath.
"Wife."
———
Downstairs, Song Chuyi successfully picked up his boba from the delivery guy.
He wasn’t in a hurry to go back up. Instead, he popped in the straw and took a slow sip.
Employees of Chusheng Group were sneaking looks at Song Chuyi.
Word that Song Chuyi was now their boss’s assistant had spread throughout the entire company within half an hour.
Everyone was wondering what their boss was plotting in their respective WeChat groups.
Most believed their boss intended to humiliate his rival, though a few were shipping them hard.
They say hate runs deeper than love—maybe the boss’s hate would turn into love?
Enemies-to-lovers? Now that’s a juicy trope.
Discussions buzzed in the WeChat groups, but no one had actually seen Song Chuyi yet.
Now that he had come down to fetch his own takeout, the chatter exploded instantly.
In one WeChat group:
"Breaking news! Song Chuyi personally came down to get his takeout!"
"Update! It’s boba, and only one cup!"
"Think the boss got it for him, or did he order it himself?"
"Has to be the boss. The boss wouldn’t let Song Chuyi order his own, right?"
"Not necessarily. Boss doesn’t touch that stuff—no way he’d know how to order it."
"I’m betting Song Chuyi got it himself. If it were the boss, there’d be two."
"Hey @Assistant Wang, did Song Chuyi order the boba or did the boss?"
"Song Chuyi got it on his own."
"Wow, the boss is cheap. Couldn’t even spring for a boba?"
"Song Chuyi personally brewed coffee for Boss Gu, and Boss Gu drank it all."
"I thought Boss Gu didn’t drink coffee?"
"Who says Boss Gu isn’t turning hate into love? He even drinks coffee for Song Chuyi."
"And it's unsweetened Americano."
"I’m totally shipping them!"
"Same!"
…………
Song Chuyi had no idea how everyone was discussing him and Gu Yongnian in their WeChat chats. He just thought the employees at Chusheng Group were really warm.
They’d burst into grins when they saw him, nothing like Gu Yongnian's cold expression.
Song Chuyi nibbled on his straw and took the executive elevator upstairs.
Passing by Assistant Wang’s desk, he glanced over and saw Wang hammering away at his phone.
Guess that’s what being in demand looks like.
He mused to himself, quickly averting his gaze and heading toward the CEO's office.
After knocking, a frosty voice came from inside.
"Come in."
Song Chuyi stepped inside to find Gu Yongnian sitting on the sofa, his hand draped casually on his thigh, head tilted back against the sofa with his eyes closed.
The setting sun cast him in dramatic, almost decadent light.
Song Chuyi blinked slowly, staying silent as he slowly sucked up a large pearl and chewed it unhurriedly.
The office was quiet, filled only with their quiet breathing.
After an eternity, Gu Yongnian finally spoke. "Come here."
Clearly, he knew exactly who had entered.
Song Chuyi walked over.
Gu Yongnian didn't open his eyes, his brows furrowing tightly.
"Tasty?"
"Delicious," Song Chuyi replied without hesitation. "Want a taste, Boss Gu?"
Gu Yongnian's eyes flew open, locking onto Song Chuyi's gaze.
Song Chuyi held his gaze unflinching.
After a long moment, Gu Yongnian finally said coldly, "Pass."
He looked away, interlacing his fingers.
"There's a charity auction tonight. You’ll accompany me."
Song Chuyi paused for a moment, "You mean the charity auction hosted by the Xu family?"
"Hmm," Gu Yongnian replied indifferently.
Song Chuyi shrugged. "The Xu family didn’t invite me."
To be precise, they left out the Song Group. After all, everyone in the business knew that Gu Yongnian and he never appeared at the same event.
Clearly, the Xu family had chosen the Chusheng Group over the Song Group this time.
As he spoke, Song Chuyi took another big sip of milk tea, accidentally sucking up a boba pearl.
He chewed vigorously, his cheeks puffing in and out.
Gu Yongnian just watched him, waiting until he finished chewing before speaking. "You belong to the Chusheng Group now."
Since he was with him now as his "assistant," he naturally had to drop his title as president of the Song Group.
"As my associate, you should attend the auction with me."
Put that way, Song Chuyi agreed.
He was really looking forward to seeing the expressions on people’s faces when he and Gu Yongnian appeared together at the charity auction.
Just imagining their shocked reactions made Song Chuyi laugh.
"Boss Gu, will we be on the front page of the business section tomorrow?"
"No," Gu Yongnian said firmly. "They wouldn’t dare."
Song Chuyi shrugged, not refuting his words.
After all, the Chusheng Group had an in-house media team and a formidable legal department.
It could be said that if Gu Yongnian didn’t want to appear in the public eye, the public would never know about him.
But the Song Group didn't have such tight control, so he figured the press would only mention him?
As if reading his thoughts, Gu Yongnian said in a low voice, "You won’t be seen either."
That was a promise.
Song Chuyi looked at him, grinning. "Boss Gu gets me."
"Reading my mind just from my face?"
Suddenly, he bent down, getting right in Gu Yongnian's face.
Now, they were so close that Gu Yongnian could feel his warm breath against his skin—a faint woody scent, unmistakable but not overpowering.
Gu Yongnian’s fingers, resting beside him, flexed slightly, as if wanting to grasp something.
But the cool air reminded him that there was nothing to hold onto.
Gu Yongnian’s expression clouded over suddenly, his voice growing rough with emotion.
"You’re too naive," he said.
So naive as to put all your emotions on display, making you easy to read at a glance.
Especially to him.
Reading Song Chuyi's expressions had become second nature, requiring almost no thought—those expressions effortlessly translated into words in his mind.
Just... pathetic.
Gu Yongnian pressed his lips tightly together, clasping his hands with his thumbs pressing into the webbing between them.
"Do your work assistants usually stand this close?"
The cold words masked a flicker of jealousy.
