Chapter 4 You Are Truly a Lucky Star for Your Big Brother
byChapter 4 You Are Truly a Lucky Star for Your Big Brother
The Yu family has five grandsons in this generation.
Excluding Su Rouer's son, Yu Yongju, Li Chunhua from the first branch gave birth to two sons: the eldest, Yu Yonghuai, who is thirteen years old, and the second, Yu Yongbai, who is eleven years old. Bai Xiaofeng from the second branch also had two sons: the third, Yu Yongliu, who is ten years old, and the fourth, Yu Yonggui, who is seven years old.
Apart from the youngest, Yu Yongju, who was absent, the four grandsons of different ages stood respectfully before Wei Pozi, loudly responding with "Yes," appearing very enthusiastic.
Especially Yu Yonghuai, the oldest grandson of the Yu family, who had always hoped for a younger sister. He had been hoping for over ten years, but unfortunately, whether it was his mother or his second aunt and third aunt, they all gave birth to boys one after another.
None of them were sisters, none at all!
Others envied the Yu family for their numerous descendants, with a row of little boys in the house.
But who knew how bitter Huai Geer felt inside.
Finally, a sister had arrived, and it made Huai Geer incredibly happy.
During dinner, he couldn't help but keep looking at Xingxing, finding her adorable except for being a bit thin.
And she was so well-behaved too! When Grandma gave her a boiled egg, she peeled it and returned it to Grandma, showing what a wonderful child she was!
When Grandma instructed them to take care of Xingxing, Huai Geer immediately patted his chest heavily in front of Wei Pozi and promised, "Grandma, don't worry. When I'm not doing farm work, I'll play with Xingxing. I won't let anyone bully her!"
Wei Pozi nodded at Huai Geer with some satisfaction and praised him, "Our Huai Geer is great; he always acts like a big brother."
Huai Geer's cheeks turned red with excitement from Wei Pozi's praise!
The other three grandsons quickly chimed in, "Grandma, we'll also play with our sister!"
"Right!"
Wei Pozi was very pleased and gave them more instructions.
Xingxing hid half of her body behind Wei Pozi and cautiously looked at the brothers who were much taller than her.
Huai Geer gave Xingxing an eager smile.
Xingxing was taken aback and responded with a shy smile.
Huai Geer felt like he was on fire!
Ah! My sister smiled at me!
Ah! My sister is so cute!
Ah! My sister!
Wei Pozi gently nudged Xingxing and encouraged her, "Go play with your brothers."
Xingxing hesitantly stepped out from behind Wei Pozi.
She was wearing clothes that had been altered from Gui Geer's old garments, which were somewhat ill-fitting despite Wei Pozi's overnight alterations.
Still, her slender wrists were exposed, but fortunately, the weather wasn't cold, so there was no risk of her getting chilled.
Xingxing's sparse yellow hair, previously tangled and messy like a magpie's nest, had been trimmed and tied into small pigtails on either side of her head, making her look adorable.
Huai Geer walked up and took Xingxing's hand, "Come on, Xingxing, I'll show you around the village."
Xingxing took a few steps forward, then couldn't help but look back at Wei Pozi.
Wei Pozi's heart softened at the moist, nestling gaze of Xingxing and waved her on, encouragingly, "Go ahead."
Xingxing followed Yu Yonghuai out of the Yu family's wooden gate, step by step.
The other three Yu family boys hurried to catch up.
Huai Geer, being a responsible older brother, held Xingxing's hand and patiently introduced her to their village.
The village is called Nan Tuo Village, a tiny hamlet at the foot of the continuous Langshen Mountains. In the past, when there was plenty of water, walking a mile south of the village would lead to a small stream where they could catch shrimp, fish, and crabs in the summer. However, due to continuous disasters over the past three years, the stream had dried up, leaving only cracked mud flats.
Hearing about the fun times by the stream, Xingxing's eyes inevitably showed disappointment.
The stream had dried up? What a pity.
Xingxing really wanted to go catch shrimp, fish, and crabs with her big brother.
But then she thought, if just hearing about it made her sad, her big brother must have been even sadder, having spent many happy days by the stream.
Xingxing pursed her lips and suddenly stopped, grabbing both of Yu Yonghuai's hands, and softly comforted him, "Big brother, don't be sad. It rained last night; the stream will surely have water again!"
Huai Geer was stunned.
For years, his younger brothers only played and joked with him; he had never heard such comforting words from them!
Especially the soft and sweet "big brother," which made him feel as refreshed as eating ice on a hot summer day!
Indeed, sisters are the best in the world!
Huai Geer excitedly hugged Xingxing, "My sister is so good!"
Xingxing blushed.
The other three Yu family boys surrounded Xingxing, eagerly calling out, "Xingxing sister, Xingxing sister, call me big brother too! I'm your second big brother!"
"I'm your third big brother!"
"I'm your fourth big brother!"
Several of the brothers jostled each other to introduce themselves.
Xingxing, who had lived for a little over three years, had never experienced such a warm welcome before. Seeing the enthusiastic brothers, she was momentarily at a loss.
Huai Geer pushed aside his three younger brothers angrily and said, "You're scaring Xingxing!"
Turning around, he faced Xingxing with a different demeanor, speaking softly and gently, afraid of frightening the frail little girl: "Xingxing, don't be afraid. Big brother is here."
The three Yu brothers poked their heads out from behind their eldest brother, trying to get the new sister to remember them first.
Xingxing's face turned red as she looked at the brothers in front of her, calling them one by one: "Second brother, Third brother, Fourth brother."
The little girl's voice was soft and sweet, making the three Yu brothers so excited that they responded eagerly, "Yes, yes, yes!"
Afraid that Xingxing's call of "brother" would fall to the ground.
Just as they were getting excited, someone suddenly shouted from a distance, "Wow, there's water in the stream!"
Huai Geer thought he had misheard and instinctively looked at his three younger brothers, who also wore stunned expressions: "What? There's water?"
After realizing what was happening, the Yu brothers were all ecstatic with disbelief. Huai Geer picked up Xingxing and started running at full speed.
The stream wasn't particularly close to the village, nearly a mile away. The other three children ran breathlessly. Only Huai Geer, even carrying Xingxing, ran incredibly fast and reached the stream like the wind without breaking a sweat.
The three younger brothers, panting heavily as they finally arrived, didn't have time to envy their eldest brother's stamina before being amazed by the stream filled with water once again.
The stream, like a bright jade ribbon, wound down from the mountain, its waters flowing gently and beautifully.
"Wow!"
There's water in the stream!
They would have a place to bathe, catch fish, and catch crabs again!
Xingxing joined in the excitement and cheered, "Wow~!"
Huai Geer was genuinely delighted and kissed Xingxing's cheek affectionately, "Oh, my dear Xingxing! You're truly a lucky star! You just said the stream would have water, and sure enough, it does! Looks like we'll be able to catch fish and crabs again soon!"
The other three brothers also praised Xingxing enthusiastically, "That's right, our Xingxing is a lucky star!"
Xingxing, with her big round eyes wide open, felt the joy of her brothers and smiled shyly.
