Chapter 31 Ju Geer Is Missing
byChapter 31 Ju Geer Is Missing
"Ouch!"
Xingxing instinctively hugged her head tightly.
But while she protected her head, she couldn't protect her bottom. Xingxing thought miserably, "Oh no, my little bottom is going to get bruised again!"
However, the expected pain didn’t come—someone grabbed her small arm and lifted her up.
Xingxing opened her eyes and saw that she had bumped into Luo Qiong Niu, whom her brothers had beaten up before and also saved along with her.
Xingxing apologized awkwardly, "Sorry, Xingxing bumped into you."
Luo Qiong Niu felt a bit uncomfortable; he coughed and was about to say something when Xingxing's friend Yamei'er ran over in panic, pulling Xingxing back several steps.
Yamei'er was five years old, a bit older than Xingxing. She whispered nervously to Xingxing, "This person has fought with your brothers many times. Stay away from him, what if he hits you?"
Yamei'er was very worried.
But the little girl thought she was speaking quietly, not realizing Luo Qiong Niu heard every word.
Luo Qiong Niu frowned, "I don’t hit girls!"
Yamei'er was a bit scared of him; she pouted but didn’t say anything more.
Luo Qiong Niu was unsure how to explain himself to Xingxing.
Xingxing thought for a moment and then asked, "Are your injuries better now?"
It was the first time Luo Qiong Niu had been cared for by a three-year-old girl. He was taken aback and almost stumbled over his words, "Ah, much better."
He hesitated for a moment and then said, "I haven’t thanked you for saving me."
Xingxing asked innocently, "You’re welcome. Actually, it wasn’t just me who saved you; my third brother and fourth brother helped too. Can you stop fighting with my brothers in the future?"
"No," Luo Qiong Niu replied quickly and firmly.
"Okay." Xingxing sighed slightly, disappointed. She held Yamei'er’s hand, preparing to leave.
Luo Qiong Niu hesitated and called out, "Xingxing."
"Huh? What is it?" Xingxing turned around, puzzled.
Luo Qiong Niu looked at the innocent and adorable little girl and cursed the Yu family boys under his breath.
They deserve such a cute sister!?
"Nothing." Luo Qiong Niu quickly pulled out a few candies from his pocket and shoved them into Xingxing’s hand. "Here, for you."
Luo Qiong Niu ran off, leaving Xingxing and Yamei'er staring in surprise.
The candies were usually wrapped in cheap oil paper, containing a piece of malt sugar, which was quite precious during the holidays.
Yamei'er was practically drooling.
Xingxing generously gave one candy to Yamei'er.
Yamei'er hugged Xingxing tightly, leaving saliva on her clothes.
Xingxing counted and realized that after giving one to Yamei'er, she still had three candies left.
She could give one to her eldest brother and second brother, one to her third and fourth brothers, and one to her grandparents. Perfect!
Thinking this, Xingxing felt a bit guilty—not because she intentionally forgot Ju Geer, but because he wasn’t home right now...
Thinking of Ju Geer, Xingxing became worried.
She hadn’t seen Ju Geer for days.
When will Ju Geer come back?
...
At that moment, Ju Geer was feeling gloomy.
His clothes were torn again, and his mother Su Rouer was mending them while scolding him for fighting every day since they arrived here.
Ju Geer unhappily slipped off the bed, put on his shoes, and prepared to go outside again.
The county town was no fun at all!
He wanted to go back to Nan Tuo Village!
Ju Geer sat in a corner of the courtyard, holding the grasshopper made by his uncle.
Su Xiaobao suddenly appeared and snatched the grasshopper from Ju Geer’s hand. "Hick, you really are from the countryside! Treasuring such a broken thing!"
Ju Geer got angry. "Give it back!"
Su Xiaobao ran to the other side, making faces at Ju Geer. "Your father abandoned you, leaving you with a broken grasshopper. You treat it like a treasure; how pitiful!"
Ju Geer’s eyes welled up with tears. Like an enraged little lion, he charged at Su Xiaobao.
Su Xiaobao didn’t expect Ju Geer to be so strong. He took a step back, tripped, and both of them tumbled down together.
But as Su Xiaobao fell, his head hit the pile of wood stacked against the wall!
Su Xiaobao’s vision blurred with pain, and blood slowly trickled down his forehead.
Su Xiaobao covered his head and screamed, "You country bumpkin! I'll have my father beat you to death!"
Ju Geer took two steps back, frightened. He clutched the grasshopper he had just pulled from Su Xiaobao's hand, bit his lip, and turned to run out of the courtyard.
By the time Qian Shi, Su Rouer, and Mother Su rushed out, there was only Su Xiaobao, bleeding from the head, left in the courtyard.
Qian Shi almost fainted!
The Su family courtyard was in chaos. When everyone came to their senses and tended to Su Xiaobao's injuries, they realized that the culprit, Ju Geer, was nowhere to be found.
Qian Shi was furious and spat out sarcastically, "I always said Ju Geer is vicious deep down. Every day he beats up our Xiaobao. You all said I was being petty with a child. Now look, Ju Geer has broken Xiaobao's head. Might as well hand him a knife so he can kill both me and Xiaobao!"
Mother Su frowned deeply.
As Su Xiaobao's grandmother, she was naturally heartbroken. But her daughter-in-law's words were too harsh!
Ju Geer was just over four years old. How could he be treated like a murderer?
Su Rouer was trembling with anger.
As she walked out, she stumbled and fell.
Mother Su quickly stopped her, "Rouer, where are you going?"
Su Rouer said fiercely, "I'm going to bring Ju Geer back. My sister-in-law can do whatever she wants with him! It's better than stabbing us with such words!"
Qian Shi, holding Su Xiaobao, exclaimed, "We wouldn't dare. Even your mother-in-law doesn't dare provoke you, little auntie. I'm just saying a few words. With Xiaobao's head like this, am I not allowed to say anything?"
Qian Shi subtly jabbed at the Yu family again.
Su Rouer trembled with rage and stormed out into the street.
"Ju Geer!"
She shouted loudly.
But no one responded in the alley.
Originally burning with anger, Su Rouer had called for half an hour, her voice hoarse, yet she still hadn't found Ju Geer. This terrified her completely.
Su Rouer forgot about her anger, her face pale, and stumbled back to the Su residence, grabbing Mother Su who was tidying up in the courtyard: "Mother, Ju Geer is gone!"
Mother Su frowned, "Perhaps Ju Geer knows he caused trouble and is hiding."
Su Rouer's eyes filled with tears as she shook her head wildly, "No, no. He's just a four-year-old child. Where could he hide? Mother, I've searched everywhere, but Ju Geer, Ju Geer is nowhere to be found!"
