    Chapter 309: The Failed Ambush

When Li Lanzhu asked the doorkeeper, he confirmed that a girl wearing an osmanthus hairpin had left the banquet early, claiming she felt unwell.

Finally confirming Wang Qianer's whereabouts, Li Lanzhu felt both relieved and somewhat annoyed that Wang Qianer had left without saying a word. She was also worried that Wang Qianer’s sudden departure might mean something was seriously wrong with her health.

After much deliberation, Li Lanzhu steeled herself and turned to Xingxing, saying, "Yu Xingxing, I need to go to Wang Qianer's house first. You and your maid can head back to the garden. I owe you one for helping me find Wang Qianer this time. I’ll treat you to a meal next time!"

Xingxing said earnestly, "Although Sister Li is a bit hot-tempered, she’s quite good to her friends. You can go ahead without worry."

Li Lanzhu was taken aback by Xingxing's compliment. She stiffened slightly and awkwardly brushed her bangs.

But she was still worried about Wang Qianer, so she didn’t say much more to Xingxing and hurriedly left after saying goodbye.

Xingxing stood at the door for a while, watching Li Lanzhu's retreating figure, before taking Huya back into the garden.

However, after only a few steps, Huya's expression darkened. She quickly reached behind her, grabbed, and threw the guard who had tried to ambush her from the path onto the ground!

Another guard who had intended to ambush Xingxing was startled by the sudden turn of events and rushed to grab her. But Xingxing had already reacted quickly, dashing away and giving Huya ample time. Huya, a seasoned caravan leader who had faced life-and-death situations multiple times, used direct and deadly techniques. Seeing that the guard was still trying to chase Xingxing, she immediately locked his throat and pinned the guard who had tried to ambush Xingxing to the ground!

Huya demanded, her eyes icy, "Who sent you? Speak!"

The guard she had in a chokehold could only manage a short, guttural sound.

Huya slightly loosened her grip, allowing the guard to speak, but he looked at her with disdain, clearly underestimating her because she was a woman.

    Huya studied him.

    Not talking, huh?

She reached out and dislocated his knee.

The guard clutched his leg, his screams reverberating through the garden.

Huya did the same to the first guard who had tried to ambush her and had been thrown to the ground, dislocating his knee as well.

Now, the screams were twice as loud.

    Madam Wang arrived shortly after.

Looking at the two guards lying nearly lifeless on the ground, she struggled to conceal her shock and fear, forcing a smile as she inquired, "...What... what happened here?"

By then, several other ladies had arrived, drawn by the noise.

Wei Sanniang and Jiang Mengniang were among them.

Xingxing pointed at the two guards on the ground, her voice gentle yet firm, "Huya and I were walking along the path when these two suddenly attacked us from behind. Huya had no choice but to dislocate their knees."

Xingxing looked directly at Madam Wang, "I would like to ask Madam, aren’t these guards from your household? Why were they hiding in the inner garden, attacking a ten-year-old girl who came to attend the banquet?"

Madam Wang swayed slightly at this.

Wei Sanniang and Jiang Mengniang's faces fell. They rushed to hug Xingxing, their hands shaking as they quickly checked her over, "Xingxing, are you hurt?!"

Xingxing shook her head reassuringly to Wei Sanniang and Jiang Mengniang, "Third Aunt, Cousin-in-law, I’m fine."

Even after confirming Xingxing was unharmed, Wei Sanniang remained shaken.

Who could have imagined that while attending a banquet, the host’s guards would hide in the garden and ambush a ten-year-old girl!

Wei Sanniang, brimming with anger, directly confronted Madam Wang: "Please give us an explanation, Madam Wang! Your Wang family is truly overstepping! The Liu family and the Yujia will not let this matter slide!"

Madam Wang, no longer able to maintain her previous charming and composed demeanor, was sweating profusely on her forehead, clearly caught off guard by this sudden situation: "...This, there must be some misunderstanding..."

The ladies at the banquet whispered among themselves, eyeing Madam Wang with distrust.

Madam Wang, nearly fainting under the scrutinizing and questioning looks around her, was anxious, biting her lip, and called over her trusted maid to whisper instructions.

    The trusted maid hurried off.

Madam Wang forced herself to remain composed: "...I have never seen these two guards before; they are unfamiliar. Although they are wearing our family's guard uniforms, they must be outsiders, likely thieves..."

    This explanation was rather weak.

But Madam Wang had no other options at the moment and could only try to shift the blame to Xingxing: "...Madam Wei, don't be in such a hurry to question us. Why not ask your niece what she did to incur such hatred..."

This statement sent Wei Sanniang and Jiang Mengniang's anger soaring!

This was an attempt to shift the blame to Xingxing!

Xingxing's sweet, soft child's voice rang out: "Madam, you are quite something. A guest was nearly abducted by your family's guards in your garden, and instead of investigating or offering comfort, you immediately side with these two thieves and think it's my problem?... I say, Madam, why would thieves from outside go through the trouble of sneaking into the Wang family's garden to capture a ten-year-old girl like me? Wouldn't it be easier to just snatch me when I'm not paying attention outside?"

Xingxing's words were quite reasonable, and all the ladies present nodded in agreement.

Madam Wang cursed Xingxing a thousand times in her heart!

    This damned little girl!

Wei Sanniang was so furious that her scalp tingled.

Her Xingxing was the most well-behaved and sensible child, and this woman's words were clearly an attempt to shift the blame, saying it was her Xingxing's fault. Who could tolerate that?!

Madam Wang suppressed her emotions and forced a smile to placate the situation: "...I was just making a guess. A guess. It's just that these two guards are not from our family..."

Xingxing did not back down: "Alright, they couldn't have just appeared out of thin air. Then let's hand them over to the authorities and have them investigate. Where are they registered, and why did they appear in the Wang family to attack me? Let's investigate everything clearly. Come on! As the victim, it's not too much to ask the authorities to check their backgrounds in front of me, is it?"

Madam Wang's forehead was covered in fine beads of sweat again.

She had only said that these two guards were not from the Wang family as a casual remark.

She knew very well that these two guards were most likely Wang Dongming's men!

The ladies at the banquet looked at Madam Wang with increasingly suspicious eyes.

Anyone could see that there was something fishy about the Wang family!

Who would dare to come in the future!

The ladies were torn between wanting to leave and wanting to see how things would unfold.

In the end, Madam Wang forced herself to remain composed and had the maids escort the ladies out of the mansion under the pretext that the banquet was over.

Wei Sanniang did not leave; she held Xingxing tightly, unusually firm in her stance, demanding an explanation from the Wang family.

Fortunately, Bai Ge'er and Liu Ge'er quickly received Huya's message and rushed over!
