Chapter 246: Ah Wu's Married Life

Moliu, as a maid who accompanied Ah Wu to the Yujia family, came along with her. In addition, since the new courtyard of the Yujia family had not yet been completed, Grandfather Liu also temporarily provided two coarse-working servants as part of the dowry to help with household chores and the like.

Wei Pozi rented a nearby empty house. Besides temporarily storing Ah Wu's dowry, it also served as accommodation for the servants who came with Ah Wu.

The family had moved to the county town and asked the village head to look after the house. Although things had gathered some dust, everything was fully equipped. On a daily basis, those maids and servants would come to serve Ah Wu.

For instance, on the wedding night, Moliu originally intended to stay in the courtyard to attend to her duties, but Ah Wu, blushing, asked Moliu to return to the empty house for the night—before her marriage, Aunt Xia had taught her about the customs of the wedding night. Although Ah Wu had the mind of a child, she still felt very shy after learning about those customs.

Moliu could not persuade Ah Wu otherwise, so she went along with it.

The morning after Ah Wu and Yu Siyang's wedding, Wei Pozi specifically instructed everyone to move quietly and speak softly so that Ah Wu and Yu Siyang could sleep in.

Moliu came over early and saw that the Yujia family was busy in the courtyard in an orderly manner, but everyone was moving gently. She couldn't help but nod in approval.

She had barely slept that night, worried and uneasy about her young mistress, fearing that after marrying into the Yujia family, they might turn against Ah Wu and change their attitude.

Seeing how things were going, it seemed promising.

As her mother-in-law, Wei Pozi didn’t insist that Ah Wu wake up to pay her respects. She also told them to keep their actions minimal so as not to wake her young mistress and the groom.

Moliu gave her first sincere smile of the day.

She had also changed the way she addressed the Yujia family.

Not only her, but the two maids who came with Ah Wu's dowry had also respectfully changed their way of addressing them, eagerly competing to do chores.

These two maids were specially chosen and trained by Aunt Xia. Before they left, Aunt Xia had sternly warned them that if there was any slight neglect at the young master's house, they shouldn't blame her for being rude and would directly sell them off.

At their age, being sold wouldn't end well. These coarse-working maids did not dare to be negligent and were eager to treat the Yujia family like ancestors, working diligently.

Even Shuangyun, who was fetching water, had the bucket taken by one of the maids saying, "How can a young lady do this kind of work? Let me do it."

    Shuangyun: "..."

Isn't she a maid of the Yujia family? Why can't she do this kind of work?

Not to mention Wei Pozi. As soon as Wei Pozi stepped out of the house, a maid eagerly came forward and said, "Old Lady, I just finished sweeping the courtyard and feeding the chickens. Is there anything else you would like me to do?"

The maid even reached out to support Wei Pozi.

    Wei Pozi: "..."

It was just a bit unaccustomed.

For Ah Wu's first meal at the Yujia family, Li Chunhua went all out, preparing eight dishes for lunch. There was meat and fish, a mix of vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes, and even a dessert. The table was fully packed, and steamed fluffy white mantou were placed in three large bowls, overflowing on the table.

    Ah Wu was astonished.

She was accustomed to eating rice, and Li Chunhua had also steamed rice. Li Chunhua asked Ah Wu whether she preferred rice or mantou.

Smelling the delicious food and seeing the fluffy mantou on the table, Ah Wu hesitated but chose the mantou.

Seeing how heartily the Yujia family ate and considering Li Chunhua's excellent cooking skills, Ah Wu, who usually had a small appetite, was surprisingly very hungry. Normally, she could only eat half a mantou, but this time, she ate a whole mantou, making her stomach round.

    Moliu was extremely delighted.

If the patriarch of her family knew that the young mistress had eaten so much, he would definitely be very pleased.

Not only Moliu, but even Wei Pozi and Yu Laotou, who had been quietly observing Ah Wu, couldn't help but crack a smile.

As a rural family, their simple belief was that guests must be allowed to eat their fill.

Although Ah Wu had married into the Yu family and was now family, her noble background meant that the Yu family still feared they might unintentionally slight her.

After the meal, Ah Wu felt quite uncomfortable from eating too much and, after informing Wei Pozi, took Xingxing out for a walk to digest.

Su Rouer quietly sighed in relief and stood up to prepare to clear the table.

She had thought this delicate young mistress would be difficult to get along with, but now it seemed she really had no airs at all.

Thinking about it this way, a young lady from the capital had no airs, making her previous pretentious behavior seem even more ridiculous.

    Su Rouer's face felt hot.

But before she could even touch the dishes, two maidservants quickly rushed forward: “Third Madam, please rest. We’ll take care of this work.”

Even Shuangyun was pushed aside by the maidservants: “Miss Shuangyun should also rest. We’ll handle this.”

    Su Rouer was dumbfounded: “Ah?”

Wei Pozi coughed: “Let them do the work then.”

Li Chunhua and Su Rouer looked around the house but couldn’t find any chores to do.

It wouldn’t be right for the sister-in-law to do chores on her first day, and they couldn’t go back to the new courtyard construction site to work either.

The two of them had no choice but to pick up some embroidery work and go to the second household to help Bai Xiaofeng take care of Bang Geer.

On the third day after Ah Wu and Yu Siyang’s wedding, Ah Wu took Yu Siyang to the Liu family villa for a return visit and planned to stay there for a few days.

After staying for about half a month, Ah Wu and Yu Siyang returned to the Yu family and continued to live there.

As the days went by, Ah Wu’s easy-going nature made the Yu family feel more natural around her.

Ah Wu had a sweet way of speaking, calling everyone mom and dad, elder sister-in-law, second sister-in-law, and third sister-in-law, which made everyone in the family like her.

Every few days, Li Chunhua would cook special meals for Ah Wu, Xingxing, and Ju Geer. While Bai Xiaofeng, in addition to taking care of Bang Geer, made a scent pouch for Ah Wu that she loved and wore on her waist every day. Su Rouer also made a pair of embroidered shoes for Ah Wu, which were both beautiful and light, much to Ah Wu's delight.

Even the younger ones, Xingxing and Ju Geer, would go out to pick wild fruits and always remember to bring some back to share with Ah Wu.

Seeing how well the Yu family treated her, much more sincerely than her aunts from the main household, Ah Wu gradually began to consider them as her real family.

After strolling through each room, Ah Wu returned and opened her dowry boxes.

She selected some fine silk fabrics and sent a silk quilt to each household. The quilts were placed on the bed, smooth and cool to the touch, making them extremely comfortable to lie on.

Wei Pozi and Li Chunhua were extremely pleased.

Whenever Wei Pozi went out to chat with others, she would brag: “Did you know my daughter-in-law made silk quilts for the whole family?”

This made everyone in Nantuo Village envious.
