Chapter 35 If He Doesn’t Wake Up, Prepare for the Funeral

After Bai Ge’er and his group returned, the news that Ju Ge’er had been found reached the anxious villagers who were searching for him, and most of the family members rushed back home.

Upon hearing that Ju Ge’er was found, Su Rouer became extremely agitated. She struggled to get off the bed, stumbled into the main room, and sat down on the edge of the bed, holding Ju Ge’er’s unconscious hand as she cried uncontrollably.

Coincidentally, Daxisipo was nearby, so Old Yu directly invited her back.

Daxisipo had graying hair, a slender and small frame, but she was full of energy, with sharp eyes that gleamed with vitality.

She wore peculiar ornaments on her head, said to be passed down through generations of sibas.

When Bai Ge’er and the others hurried back, Daxisipo had just finished checking Ju Ge’er’s pulse.

"You found him at the bottom of the hill? It seems he hit his head when he rolled down. There’s a blood clot in his head; if no one helps him, he won’t wake up." Daxisipo then felt all over Ju Ge’er’s body. "There’s nothing else wrong except for some minor scrapes... Luckily you found him in time. This child spent a night freezing in the mountains. If it were any later, hah."

Daxisipo let out a somewhat eerie laugh.

Su Rouer covered her mouth, tears rolling down her cheeks.

Wei Pozi turned pale. "Sister Daxisipo, can my Ju Ge’er recover from this injury?"

Although Daxisipo was known for having a bad temper, she remained relatively calm with Wei Pozi. She glanced at Wei Pozi. "Don’t worry, he won’t die. You’re lucky you found him not too late, and I happened to be nearby. I’ll prescribe some medicine; after a few days, he should wake up... Otherwise, if you delayed a few more hours, it would be another story."

Hearing this, Wei Pozi’s heart relaxed, and her legs went weak. If Li Chunhua hadn’t quickly supported her, Wei Pozi might have fallen.

She clasped her hands together and kept muttering, "Thank goodness, thank goodness."

Then Wei Pozi remembered something and teared up. "Speaking of which, it’s all thanks to my good grandchildren who searched the mountain for half a day..."

Huai Ge’er quickly interjected, "Grandma, it was Xingxing who found the grasshopper in the bushes where Ju Ge’er fell. That’s how we guessed he must be nearby."

"Xingxing?" Wei Pozi laughed through her tears. "I knew it; our Xingxing is blessed. She’s a little star sent by heaven to our Yu family..."

Xingxing, feeling awkward, took out a handkerchief to wipe Wei Pozi’s tears. "Grandma..."

Daxisipo’s gaze fell on Xingxing. Suddenly, her eyes narrowed slightly as they focused on the Buddhist beads around Xingxing’s wrist. She let out a surprised "Hmm," her expression changing, as if deep in thought.

In the end, however, Daxisipo didn’t say anything. She took out various powders from her collection of bottles, mixed them, and ground them in a mortar before putting them in a jar.

"Take two grams each time, boiled in water. Once a day should suffice," Daxisipo instructed. "By the time this jar is empty, the child should wake up."

The whole family nodded in agreement.

Su Rouer, still crying, asked, "What if he doesn’t wake up?"

Without looking at her, Daxisipo scoffed, "If he doesn’t wake up, prepare for the funeral."

Su Rouer’s face immediately turned deathly pale!

Wei Pozi, also pale, called out tremulously, "Sister Daxisipo!"

Daxisipo, impatient, said, "Enough, I can’t stand her crying and making a fuss! ... Don’t worry, the medicine should be enough to wake him up. If he doesn’t wake up, come find me in the village."

Su Rouer dared not cry anymore, holding back her tears.

Wei Pozi sighed with relief. "Sister Daxisipo, you scared me... How much is the fee?"

Daxisipo chuckled. "Even though we have some connection, my medicine is top-notch, and the fee cannot be reduced. Besides, giving less money for life-saving medicine would diminish your child’s luck!"

Wei Pozi nodded repeatedly. "That’s right, that’s right."

Daxisipo held up one finger. "One tael of silver."

Li Chunhua and Bai Xiaofeng almost gasped.

    How much?!

    One tael of silver?!

But Wei Pozi didn’t hesitate. "Alright, Sister, wait a moment while I get the money."

Soon, Wei Pozi brought out a tightly wrapped small package from under a chest in the inner room.

Layer by layer, she unwrapped it, revealing a piece of broken silver and some copper coins.

Wei Pozi handed the silver to Daxisipo, who bit it and nodded. "About one tael. Alright, I’m leaving now."

Li Chunhua and Bai Xiaofeng watched as Daxisipo left with the silver.

    Su Rouer stared blankly.

In the package, there were only a few copper coins left.

Despite this, Wei Pozi paid the medical fee without hesitation...

Su Rouer couldn’t describe the feeling in her heart.

    ...

Ju Ge’er was found, even though he hadn’t woken up yet. But from Daxisipo’s tone, it seemed certain he would eventually awaken.

Everyone dispersed from the main room, leaving only Su Rouer with Ju Ge’er.

Earlier, Li Chunhua and Bai Xiaofeng didn’t think much about spending money on treatment when Ju Ge’er was in danger. But now, outside the main room, thinking about Daxisipo’s certainty that Ju Ge’er would recover, they felt uneasy about the medical fee.

If Su Rouer hadn’t been so sentimental and stayed at her parents’ house, would Ju Ge’er have gotten into this situation?

If Ju Ge’er hadn’t gotten into this situation, they wouldn’t have lost one tael of silver for nothing!

    That's one tael of silver!

The sisters-in-law were writhing with distress.

Especially when Bai Xiaofeng lowered her voice and said to Li Chunhua, "Elder Sister, I'm not trying to be difficult, but we can see that our younger brother and Huai Geer are both ready to get married soon. This one tael of silver could have been used for so many things... Sigh, I'm not saying I don't want to spend money on Ju Geer's treatment, but if only our third sister-in-law hadn't caused trouble, we could have saved this money, couldn't we?"

Bai Xiaofeng's words struck a chord with Li Chunhua.

Li Chunhua felt even more distressed and finally muttered, "Forget it. The incident has already happened; we can't just leave Ju Geer untreated."

That was the truth of the matter.

    The sisters-in-law sighed in unison.

    ...

By evening, Yu Sanbao returned, his face weathered by the journey.

He had spent most of the day in the county, seeking connections and investigating. All he found out was that yesterday, a child matching his description had run out of the county on their own.

This nearly drove Yu Sanbao mad with worry.

Fortunately, villagers came to inform him that the child had been found, so he hurried back as quickly as possible.

Ju Geer was still unconscious. Yu Sanbao sat by the bed, staring intently at his comatose son, silent for a long time.
