by 小辫子Her tone was downright accusatory.
Wei Pozi took a deep breath.
Qian Shi might be heartless, but it had nothing to do with the children.
Just then, Liu Ge'er returned with Gui Ge'er, Ju Ge'er, and Xingxing.
Ju Ge'er was stunned when he saw his mother crying so hard: "Mom, what's wrong?"
Ju Ge'er quickly ran to Su Rouer. Though small in stature, his anger was immense: "Did Auntie bully you again?!"
Su Rouer didn't want to lose face in front of the children and hurriedly wiped her face, putting on a brave smile: "N-no, nothing's wrong. Mom's fine..."
But Ju Ge'er didn't believe her. He turned around, stepping protectively in front of Su Rouer, and shot daggers with his eyes at Qian Shi and Su Xiaobao: "If you bully my mom again, I'll bite you!"
Su Rouer felt both bitter and tearful inside.
Xingxing also quickly stepped forward, standing beside Ju Ge'er, eyeing Qian Shi and Su Xiaobao warily, ready to back Ju Ge'er up, teeth and all.
Qian Shi tutted disapprovingly at the sight of Xingxing: "So this is the little girl Wei Pozi adopted, huh? Not to be rude, but if you have money to spare for some stranger's kid, why not pay the medical compensation you owe?… Aren't you afraid karma will shorten this girl's life? Such great fortune—her scrawny, unlucky look can't handle it..."
Wei Pozi's eyes turned to ice.
Liu Ge'er and Gui Ge'er were furious!
If the other party weren't an elder, they would've thrown punches already!
But Ju Ge'er was different—spoiled rotten and hot-headed, his eyes turned red when he heard Qian Shi cursing Xingxing. He lunged at Qian Shi and gave her a hard shove!
Chapter 48: Your Daughter-in-Law's Gone Mad - Aren't You Going to Stop Her?!
Qian Shi was blindsided and stumbled from Ju Ge'er's push.
Furious, she shoved Ju Ge'er back with all her might.
A kid's no match for a grown-up's strength.
And in her fury, Qian Shi used all her might!
Ju Ge'er was sent flying backward.
Su Rouer went ghost-white, her heart in her throat as she screamed in panic: "Ju Ge'er!"
The next moment, she was too shocked to speak!
Xingxing dove forward, cushioning Ju Ge'er with her small body to soften the impact. The two kids went down in a heap, but thankfully, they didn't seem badly hurt.
The Yu family panicked, rushing to surround the two children, completely ignoring Qian Shi.
"Xingxing, Ju Ge'er! Are you two okay?" Wei Pozi was beside herself, helping Su Rouer lift both children up.
Wei Pozi scooped Xingxing up from the ground. The little girl rubbed her bottom, making little 'ow' noises, but still reassuring Wei Pozi: "Grandma, Xingxing's okay, just a little boo-boo on my bottom."
Wei Pozi let out half the breath she'd been holding, equal parts amused and moved by Xingxing's selflessness.
"You..." Wei Pozi didn't know what to say, giving Xingxing's bottom a gentle rub. "Still hurt?"
Xingxing shook her head: "Xingxing's all better now. What about Ju Ge'er? Did Ju Ge'er get hurt?"
Ju Geer was still dazed. When Su Rouer anxiously asked him where it hurt, he finally realized—did Xingxing break his fall?
"Mom, I'm fine," Ju Geer quickly replied, turning to look at Xingxing beside him. She was rubbing her little bottom and peering at him. Seeing he was unharmed, she flashed him a bright smile: "Ju Geer, I’m so glad you’re okay!"
Ju Geer’s nose suddenly stung.
Seeing both children were fine, the Yu family let out a collective sigh of relief.
The moment Qian Shi shoved Ju Geer away with full force, her heart sank—she knew she’d gone too far! Blinded by rage, she’d shoved him with all her strength and likely injured him.
But luckily, that little girl had cushioned him, preventing serious harm. Otherwise, who knew how this would have ended!
Qian Shi sighed in relief and was about to speak when Su Rouer suddenly erupted.
"Leave! Get out of here!" Su Rouer’s eyes were red-rimmed, her voice raw from crying. "Ju Geer is just a child—how could you do that?!"
Children roughhousing is one thing, but an adult striking a child is entirely another.
Qian Shi blustered defensively, "He disrespected his aunt! I was just teaching him a lesson!... Besides, he wasn’t even hurt! Look at my Xiaobao—his head is split open, and it might even scar! Enough talk—just pay up for the medical bills so I can leave!"
Su Rouer glared at Qian Shi. "Medical bills?! Fine, even if we’re talking medical bills—when I returned to the Su family, I brought several taels of silver. Wasn’t that plenty?!... Go ask my mother for it!"
Qian Shi pressed on relentlessly, "That was for living costs—this is for the medical bills. Pay now!"
Su Rouer fixed Qian Shi with a cold stare, seeing right through her.
Of course. They had never treated her as family. To them, she was an outsider returning to her maiden home—naturally, she had to pay her way.
"...Don’t think I don’t know," Su Rouer said firmly. "You’re using Xiaobao’s injury to squeeze money out of me because my brother gambled away his debts and can’t repay them, isn’t that right?"
Qian Shi’s face went pale—she’d been caught, and blurted out, "How did you know?..."
Su Rouer gave a bitter laugh. "So, my brother knew you were coming here today too?"
Qian Shi’s eyes darted away.
Su Rouer wiped away her tears and ignored Qian Shi. Turning to Wei Pozi, she said, "...Mother, Second Sister-in-law, today you’ve all seen how my sister-in-law treats me and Ju Geer. If she ever steps foot here again, don’t worry about saving face—just kick her out."
