Chapter 19 We've Struck It Rich!

At that moment, Wei Pozi and Xingxing were completely unaware of what had happened at the Su family in Book Spine Alley.

The grandmother and granddaughter were happily munching on candied haws, one after another, as they walked toward the medical hall.

It was quite a coincidence; this street had two medical halls directly across from each other, both being the largest in Mapo County.

Both medical halls were of similar size, and the doctors who practiced there specialized in treating bruises and injuries.

Wei Pozi couldn't help but hesitate, looking back and forth, muttering to herself, "Which one should we ask about prices first?"

Xingxing knew that Wei Pozi was here to sell herbs, so she mimicked her grandmother's actions, glancing left and right.

Xingxing seemed to have a feeling and pointed to one of the medical halls with a sign that read "Renhui Hall": "Grandma, why don't we go to that one first?"

Upon hearing her beloved granddaughter's suggestion, Wei Pozi readily agreed: "Alright, let's go to this one."

Before entering Renhui Hall, the little girl said earnestly to Wei Pozi, "Grandma, our herbs will surely fetch a high—very high price."

Xingxing stretched out her arm, trying her best to show how high it could be, gesturing to Wei Pozi.

Wei Pozi chuckled and gently tugged at Xingxing's small braid.

Even the best quality Heartburn Grass would probably only fetch a few coins. Her Heartburn Grass, which had been pecked by chickens, wouldn't look too good. How much higher could it go?

Unexpectedly, just as Wei Pozi and Xingxing stepped into Renhui Hall, a panting man rushed in behind them.

He shouted, "Our master fell off his horse and is severely injured, bleeding profusely! Shopkeeper, quickly bring your best healing medicine!"

The shopkeeper of Renhui Hall recognized the man as a servant from the Hu family in town. The master he referred to must be the Hu family's eldest son, who managed the town's textile business.

The shopkeeper of Renhui Hall didn't dare delay and hurriedly brought out the usual wound medicine to hand over to the Hu family's servant.

The servant, surprisingly literate, glanced at the label on the medicine bottle and frowned: "These are ordinary wound medicines. My master has already tried them, and they aren't effective! Don't you have anything better?"

The shopkeeper of Renhui Hall frowned deeply upon hearing this: "Sir, you know the situation in Mapo County. If we don't have it, no one else will either—"

Suddenly, the shopkeeper remembered something and cautiously added, "Unless, perhaps, someone else has Heartburn Grass! That's an excellent remedy for bruises and injuries and can also stop bleeding effectively!"

The servant of the Hu family shouted angrily, "Then what are you waiting for? Hurry up and get the Heartburn Grass!"

The shopkeeper of Renhui Hall looked distressed: "Sir, you know the past few years haven't been good. Heartburn Grass is rare; finding even one plant a month is a miracle! We don't have any, and neither does the other place. You don't need to go there!"

The servant of the Hu family stormed off, cursing: "You're wasting time! If my master's condition worsens because of this, I'll smash your shop!"

Before Wei Pozi could react, Xingxing spoke up loudly: "Heartburn Grass, Grandma has Heartburn Grass!"

Everyone turned to look at her, their eyes filled with suspicion and scrutiny: "Little girl, are you sure? Do you really have it?"

Xingxing tried to steady herself and shook Wei Pozi's hand, which was still in shock: "Grandma, don't we have it?"

Wei Pozi snapped out of her daze and quickly pulled out the carefully wrapped Heartburn Grass from her bosom.

The shopkeeper of Renhui Hall hurried forward to examine it closely. Upon seeing it, he was overjoyed: "Yes, this is Heartburn Grass!"

The servant of the Hu family was equally delighted and looked eagerly at Wei Pozi: "Auntie, are you selling this Heartburn Grass?"

Wei Pozi, waking up from her surprise, nodded vigorously: "Yes, yes, I'm selling it!"

A moment later, Wei Pozi led Xingxing out of Renhui Hall, her steps unsteady and her mind in a daze.

When they reached an empty alley, Wei Pozi suddenly burst into laughter, lifting Xingxing high into the air, beaming with joy: "Oh, my dear granddaughter! We've struck it rich!"

Wei Pozi had initially thought that the subpar Heartburn Grass might fetch a few coins at most. She never imagined that the Hu family's eldest son was badly injured and needed it urgently. The servant of the Hu family gave her a sizable piece of silver, which she estimated to be at least two taels!

One plant of Heartburn Grass fetched two taels of silver!

    Two taels!

Just thinking about this amount made Wei Pozi tremble with excitement!

Xingxing was also infected by Wei Pozi's happiness and laughed heartily!

They hugged and laughed for a long time.

In these lean times, two taels of silver was no small sum!

With some coarse rice mixed with wild vegetables, it would be enough to feed the whole family for half a year!

By then, new crops would be harvested, and they could sell them to buy more coarse rice!

    Wei Pozi couldn't stop smiling.

Xingxing was even more ambitious. She had memorized the appearance of the herb and planned to search for Heartburn Grass near the village to sell and make Grandma happy!

"Good Xingxing, Grandma was stunned. If you hadn't called out, we would have missed this opportunity!" Wei Pozi waved her hand generously, "Good Xingxing, tell me what you want, and Grandma will buy it for you!"

Wei Pozi felt that Xingxing was a lucky star for their family!

Xingxing shook her head vigorously: "Xingxing had candied haws earlier, so I don't want anything!" She hooked her little finger with Wei Pozi's, contentedly giggling, "Seeing Grandma happy makes Xingxing happy too!"

    Wei Pozi's heart melted!

She pondered for a moment and decided, "Since we sold the Heartburn Grass at a good price thanks to Xingxing, let's get you a pretty hair comb!"

Xingxing's round eyes instantly lit up, but then she hesitated and timidly asked Wei Pozi: "Grandma, is a hair comb expensive?"

The sister from the neighboring house once went out as a guest, and her mother had pinned an extremely delicate and beautiful hair comb in her hair. It was so pretty.

Xingxing saw it that day and liked it very much. Occasionally, she would sneak a peek by leaning over the fence when the neighbor's sister was working in the yard.

She didn't expect that Grandma had noticed too!

Wei Pozi kissed Xingxing's little face hard: "Not expensive! It's what our Xingxing deserves!"

Xingxing was overjoyed, her big, round almond eyes sparkling as if filled with the entire Milky Way.

Wei Pozi held Xingxing's hand and spent twenty copper coins to buy a small hair comb wrapped in red velvet flowers.

The small hair comb was made of wood covered in copper, not a precious material, but it was exquisitely crafted, small and delicate, with a nice feel in the hand.

Wei Pozi solemnly pinned the small hair comb into Xingxing's little bun.

However, Xingxing's little bun was too sparse, and the hair comb couldn't hold on properly, swaying and falling off.

Wei Pozi feared Xingxing would be upset, but unexpectedly, the little girl held the hair comb and laughed foolishly: "When Xingxing grows up and has more hair, she can wear it!"

Wei Pozi felt relieved and said repeatedly: "That's right, when our Xingxing has more hair, she can wear it!"

The grandmother and granddaughter looked at each other and both laughed happily.

All of this was seen by Ju Geer, who was standing dumbfounded at the corner of the alley.

Earlier on the street, through the crowd, he had spotted Wei Pozi, thinking she had come to pick him up.

Ju Geer ran towards Wei Pozi without thinking—children may hold grudges, but they also forget quickly; after just two or three days at his grandmother's house, he had already forgotten about Wei Pozi scolding him and only wanted to cuddle in her arms.

But before he could reach her, he realized how fondly Grandma seemed to treat Xingxing.

    Ju Geer stood there, stunned.

It was Xingxing, despite holding her cherished hair comb tightly, who sensed someone watching them.

Xingxing looked around curiously and immediately spotted Ju Geer, standing behind a vendor stall, staring blankly in their direction.

Without much thought, she exclaimed joyfully: "Grandma, it's Ju Geer!"

Wei Pozi was delighted to see her little grandson: "Ju Geer!"

Wei Pozi looked around but didn't see any adult accompanying Ju Geer, so she frowned: "Why are you alone?"

This market was crowded and chaotic; Ju Geer was only four years old. How could the Su family let such a young child come out alone?!

Didn't they fear he might be kidnapped?!
