Chapter 38: Everyone Says Xingxing is the Most Likable Little Girl

Over the past two days, Ju Geer had been unconscious, so everyone was hesitant to move him. He had been resting on the main house's bed.

Now that he had woken up, Yu Sanbao carried him back to their room.

Two more days passed, and after finishing the medicine powder left by Daxisipo, Ju Geer was bouncing around again, clearly on the mend.

However, during these few days, even though Ju Geer was young, he sensed something was off between his parents.

His mother seemed to want to talk to his father, but his father’s attitude... Ju Geer couldn’t quite put it into words, but he felt that his father wasn’t as warm towards his mother as before.

"Ju Geer! Come out and play!"

    Xingxing called from the courtyard.

Ju Geer sat up in bed, pouting slightly, not wanting to pay attention to this impolite little girl.

But his feet moved on their own, sliding down from the bed.

Su Rouer, looking somewhat worn out, sat by the window sewing a shoe sole. Seeing her son heading outside, she opened her mouth but held back her words, remaining silent as Ju Geer walked out.

Ju Geer huffed, noticing Xingxing squatting on the ground, teasing ants with a dogtail grass. Her tiny pigtails sticking out on either side of her head made her look incredibly cute.

Ju Geer deliberately spoke harshly, "Why are you alone? Where are your brothers?"

Xingxing looked up at the sound, seeing Ju Geer. She happily threw away the grass, stood up, and counted on her fingers, "The eldest brother and second brother are working in the fields. The third brother and fourth brother went to visit their maternal grandparents with Second Aunt. So, only we two kids are left at home!"

Ju Geer snorted, turning to leave, "What fun is there playing with you?"

Xingxing looked at him helplessly, unsure how to persuade Ju Geer to stay.

After a few steps, Ju Geer noticed Xingxing hadn’t said anything to keep him, and angrily thought, _So this little girl really is annoying!_

"... How about we go dig for wild vegetables?"

Xingxing suggested weakly, "Auntie’s wild vegetable pancakes are delicious."

At the mention of wild vegetable pancakes, Ju Geer’s mouth watered uncontrollably.

He wiped his mouth and turned back, somewhat reluctantly, "Fine. But let me be clear, I’m not playing with you; I just want to eat Auntie’s wild vegetable pancakes!"

The four-year-old Ju Geer tried to act aloof, "Don’t misunderstand!"

Xingxing nodded happily, "Xingxing won’t misunderstand!"

Ju Geer finally cheered up, saying, "Wait here," and ran back to their room, grabbed a small basket, slung it over his shoulder, and rushed out excitedly.

Su Rouer quickly asked, "Where are you going?"

Ju Geer didn’t turn back, "I’m going to dig for wild vegetables!"

Su Rouer became anxious, grabbing Ju Geer’s arm, "You’ve just recovered, don’t run so fast! ... Why dig for wild vegetables when we have plenty at home?"

Ju Geer looked at Su Rouer strangely, unhappy, "Mother, I won’t run, but why can’t I dig wild vegetables if my brothers do?"

Su Rouer was taken aback, instinctively replying, "You’re still young..."

Ju Geer immediately retorted, "But Xingxing is a year younger than me!" He proudly held up four fingers, "I’m four, and she’s only three! If she can dig, so can I!"

Then, he complained, "Mother, stop treating me like a baby. I’m not little anymore!"

Su Rouer’s face flushed with conflicting emotions.

Taking advantage of Su Rouer’s momentary distraction, Ju Geer ran off quickly.

Su Rouer came to her senses and shouted anxiously after Ju Geer, "Ju Geer, don’t run so fast!"

    "I know!"

Ju Geer’s voice echoed as he ran into the courtyard.

"Let’s go, let’s dig for wild vegetables!" Ju Geer was full of enthusiasm.

Xingxing pulled Ju Geer’s arm seriously, "I heard Third Aunt say you shouldn’t run too fast!"

Ju Geer “tsked,” clearly annoyed by Xingxing’s fussiness, but reluctantly agreed, "Fine."

Satisfied, Xingxing picked up the small bamboo basket Yu Siyang had woven for her over the past two days and waved her little hand happily, "Come on, let’s dig for wild vegetables!"

Ju Geer glanced at Xingxing’s basket and pouted, "Did Uncle make it for you? Hmph, Uncle made me a little horse, which looks better than this!"

Xingxing tilted her head in confusion, her pigtails following suit, "Yes, the little horse is very nice."

She didn’t understand why Ju Geer emphasized this.

Ju Geer felt like he had punched a pillow. He should be happy that he won, but instead, he felt a bit frustrated...

He angrily thought, _It must be because Xingxing is such an annoying little girl!_

Ju Geer muttered, "Annoying little girl!"

Xingxing heard him and pouted, "Xingxing isn’t annoying. Everyone says Xingxing is the most likable little girl! It’s just that Ju Geer doesn’t like Xingxing!"

Ju Geer huffed, "Just annoying, just annoying!"

The two little ones, bickering and lively, stepped out of the Yu family’s wooden gate together.

Su Rouer stood behind the window, watching them, motionless for a long time.

"Over here! Last time, Third Brother and Fourth Brother and I dug up so many wild vegetables!" Xingxing gestured with her arms and pointed further away. "But in that direction, Grandma said we can't go any further. That's where the Luo family's older brother was bitten by a snake."

She set down her small bamboo basket, rolled up her sleeves, and got ready to work: "Let's see who can dig up more!"

Ju Geer's competitive spirit flared up immediately: "Fine, let's do it!"

The two little ones bent over and started digging for wild vegetables frantically.

Thanks to the rain from the other day, this patch of wild land had sprouted plenty of new wild vegetables during this period.

The two little ones were sweating profusely from their efforts.

But Ju Geer, having been pampered since childhood, rarely did such physical labor, and soon he plopped down on his bottom from exhaustion.

Xingxing heard the noise and glanced at Ju Geer: "Are you okay?"

Despite being pampered, Ju Geer was also very competitive. To prevent the annoying little girl from looking down on him, he gritted his teeth and stood up again: "I'm definitely fine!"

Xingxing, however, looked worried: "No, Ju Geer, Xingxing just heard Third Aunt say that you've only just recovered from your illness and shouldn't run around or get too tired."

Ju Geer appreciated Xingxing's concern but rolled his eyes: "Why are you more nagging than my mother? Did she tell you to watch over me?"

Xingxing pursed her lips and lowered her eyes: "No. Third Aunt doesn't really like Xingxing..."
