by 小辫子Li Jinnan was hit so hard that he was stunned senseless!
When he finally regained his senses, he exploded in anger: "How dare you hit me?!"
Li Jinnan swung his arm to hit back!
Could Huai Ge'er and Bai Ge'er, both tall and strong, stand by while their mother got hit?!
Huai Ge'er immediately shoved Li Jinnan hard!
This time, Huai Ge'er held nothing back.
Li Jinnan went flying backward, crashing into a pile of firewood stacked by the corner of the wall. He landed right in the middle of the pile, completely stunned and hurting all over, unable to recover for a long while!
The Zhaos gasped at the sight!
Was the Yu family really this ruthless?!
Li Chunhua was still seething with anger. She glared at Li Jinnan, who was writhing in pain in the firewood pile, and snapped: "Listen here! My sister-in-law is pregnant, and Xingxing is our family's treasure! If the doctor finds anything wrong with either of them later, I’ll have Huai Ge'er take you apart piece by piece!"
She was so furious that tears filled her eyes, threatening to spill over.
Li Jinnan was the Li family's burden—she had endured and accepted that!
No matter how much he pushed them around, she figured it was the Li family owing him!
But her sister-in-law and Xingxing owed him nothing!
He could bully the Li family all he wanted, but how dare he bring his tyranny to the Yu family?!
The more Li Chunhua thought about it, the angrier she became. Covering her face, she broke down crying!
How could she have such a shameless brother?!
Li Donghua was crying too, reaching out to Li Chunhua between sobs. In the end, the two sisters clung to each other, weeping bitterly.
The Zhaos looked at each other nervously, sensing the situation had taken a turn for the worse.
If the Yu family had merely regarded them with wariness and hostility before, now their gazes were like they wanted to skin them alive!
The Zhaos couldn’t help feeling wronged.
After a hushed discussion among themselves, Zhao's Mother said harshly and threw a final threat at Li Jinnan: "...Zhaodi is already carrying your child. Tomorrow, we’ll bring her here. If you can’t come up with a solution, we’ll make her bash her head right in front of you!"
With that, the Zhaos hurriedly left.
Li Jinnan hurt like he’d been beaten with sticks. It took him a long time to crawl out of the firewood pile.
Not a single member of the Yu family gave him a second glance.
In these rural villages, itinerant doctors occasionally made the rounds, but that depended on luck. For urgent matters, it was always safer to send for Daxisipo.
The Yu family was busy helping Xingxing and Bai Xiaofeng back into the house, afraid they might take another fall.
Li Jinnan limped out of the Yu family’s gate looking completely beaten.
Daxisipo arrived quickly. After hearing Wei Pozi’s brief account of what happened, she first checked Bai Xiaofeng’s pulse.
"Tsk, she’s fine—just scared," Daxisipo waved it off.
Wei Pozi asked again, "Do you need any calming herbs?"
Daxisipo glanced at her, "You think medicine is always good? Her pregnancy is stable—why take medicine?"
Hearing Daxisipo's words, the Yu family felt half their worries melt away, especially Bai Xiaofeng, who felt as if she had cheated death. She covered her belly, crying and laughing at the same time.
She had been terrified earlier—thank heavens for Xingxing!
Wei Pozi hurriedly added, "Please, Sister Daxi, take a look at my granddaughter too."
Xingxing was still dizzy, lay limp on the bed, her little body soft and weak, which was scary to see.
Daxisipo "hmmmed" and first glanced at the string of dark Buddhist beads on Xingxing's wrist.
The beads were pitch black, but upon closer inspection, you could see faint glimmers of light in them.
Daxisipo smiled, "I don’t even need to check her pulse to know this little one is definitely fine."
Still, despite her words, seeing how anxious the Yu family was and wanting to confirm for herself, Daxisipo reached out to check Xingxing's pulse.
She slowly withdrew her arm, "This little girl has a good heart, being a human cushion for someone else. Luckily, she was fortunate and didn’t get hurt. If it were someone else, could've broken bones, or internal organs crushed."
The Yu family shuddered at the close call but also felt immense relief.
"It’s good that she’s fine, it’s good that she’s fine. Buddha bless, Buddha bless," Wei Pozi clasped her hands together, muttering prayers over and over.
Daxisipo tsked, "Though she’s fine, you still have to pay the exam fee."
Wei Pozi grinned from ear to ear, "Of course, of course we’ll pay. I’d rather pay you the fee every time you come over for free!"
Daxisipo gave her a sidelong glance, took the money, and ambled off.
Li Chunhua and Li Donghua, their eyes puffy from crying, came to apologize.
Wei Pozi glared at them, "What's there to apologize for?! Did you do this?!"
Li Chunhua wiped her tears, "That beast Li Jinnan… My parents raised him for eight years. In all those years, didn't he feel even a little sibling love for Donghua?"
Wei Pozi snorted in contempt.
People like him—cold, selfish—even if they were raised for eighteen or twenty-eight years, they’d still be the same!
Chapter 68: I’ll Make Sure He Pays for This!
Xingxing had a little nap and quickly recovered.
Her little face rosy, she woke up groggy for a bit before scurrying down from the heated bed.
Wei Pozi sat nearby by the oil lamp, sewing clothes for Xingxing by the light. Seeing the little girl move, she exclaimed joyfully, "Oh, my dear, you’re awake! Do you feel any discomfort?"
Xingxing replied, "Grandma, Xingxing feels great!... Grandma, how’s Second Aunt? Is she okay? Is the little brother in her belly okay?"
She barraged Granny Wei with questions about Bai Xiaofeng’s condition.
Wei Pozi’s eyes brimmed with affection, "Thanks to you breaking her fall, your Second Aunt is fine. She was just a bit frightened and needs some rest."
Originally intending to climb down, Xingxing instead crawled back onto the kang, chuckling, "Then Xingxing won’t disturb Second Aunt’s rest. I’ll visit her tomorrow!"
