Chapter 22: Poor Souls! - Daily Gossip in the Compound: The Weak Sister-in-Law's Routine

As it turned out, when Mother Gu and Mother Jiang were trying to get their daughters-in-law involved, Mother Li intervened.

Mother Li told their sons to go and pull the women apart. After all, the young wives didn’t have much strength. With Mother Gu and Mother Jiang getting into an even fiercer fight, the young women stepping in would only drag them into the chaos without effectively stopping the fight.

Unfortunately, Mother Li’s plan didn’t work out as expected. Jiang Yang and Gu Hang, instead of breaking up the fight, got dragged into it. Yes, you read that right. Mother Li had once again underestimated Mother Gu and Mother Jiang.

Once these two women started fighting, they really didn’t care about anything else. Jiang Yang and Gu Hang, though reluctant, had to follow Mother Li’s instructions to pull them apart. As they moved forward, Gu Hang was accidentally hurt by Mother Jiang. It wasn’t clear if she meant to do it or not, but Mother Gu saw it and assumed it was deliberate. So, she instantly retaliated against Jiang Yang.

Jiang Yang was slapped squarely and was left stunned. How could Mother Jiang bear this?

She let out a howl and attacked Gu Hang. But Gu Hang, having seen Jiang Yang being slapped, was prepared. He blocked Mother Jiang’s incoming slap with his hand.

But when a big mom says slap, she means business. If one slap didn’t work, she’d try another. If two slaps weren’t enough, she’d just charge at you, taking you by surprise.

So, the onlookers watched helplessly as the two men got pulled into the fray, each facing off against the other’s mom.

Jiang Li didn’t want to see her husband getting hit, so she tried to step in and help, but Jiang Da Sao, fearing her mother-in-law’s wrath, stopped her.

    “Get out of my way.”

    “No!”

By now, Mother Li felt like she was about to explode. What kind of mess was this?

Jiang Yang and Gu Hang were no match for the two big moms when it came to dirty tricks. Their faces were covered in scratches from the relentless clawing.

The two men were furious and, in a fit of anger, pushed the big moms off them with force.

The force was too much, and both big moms fell to the ground.

Mother Jiang fell on her elbow, dislocating her joint.

Mother Gu was also quite unfortunate; she ended up with a fractured tailbone.

Only then did this ridiculous fight finally end.

Mother Li didn’t know whether to feel relieved or heartbroken. She had wanted them to stop, and now they had, but it had ended with both of them getting injured.

For a moment, the two were stunned by their injuries, but once they came to their senses, they started screaming about their pain and demanding the other pay a large sum of money. And so, they started arguing again.

This time, since they were both injured and couldn’t fight, they could only engage in a war of words.

Mother Li couldn’t just leave them like this, so she had their sons take them to the hospital.

She also planned to go along to get this whole thing sorted out. If they kept fighting like this, it would never end.

Seeing there might still be more drama, the onlookers weren’t ready to leave just yet.

So, they all wanted to follow along.

    “I’ll go and help too!”

“Yes, yes, I can help as well.”

“Where do you think you’re going? Your children at home are hungry. Are you going to let them skip dinner?” Mother Li could see right through their intentions. Not wanting them to continue causing trouble, she reminded them.

“Uh...” They had almost forgotten about the children.

Ah well~ Families with children, like Mother Su and the others, had to pass on the chance to see the excitement and stay home instead.

But those without kids, like Yu Liang and his wife, weren't giving up so easily.

"What are you doing?" Mother Li asked, seeing that they were still not moving.

"Hehe, we’re just lending a hand. We’ll be visiting Lin Qing later!" Yu Liang quickly came up with this reason.

"Yes, yes. We’re going to visit the patient, and we’ll just happen to go to the hospital with you."

So, they tagged along to the hospital.

Cen Xi and Lin Qing listened in complete astonishment.

Cen Xi said, "No wonder... I should've known... I should've known they just said they were visiting the patient."

"So I was just an excuse for you guys!" Lin Qing said in surprise.

"Hehe!" Da Qiang rubbed the back of his neck, looking sheepish.

Lin Qing raised an eyebrow and asked, "So, are they arguing again now?"

    "Yes, yes."

"The last issue wasn’t resolved, and now there’s another medical bill. What’s their plan?" Cen Xi clearly pinpointed the key issue from the series of events.

"Hehe! We don’t know yet. If I did, I wouldn’t have come along." Most of them were just curious to see how things would play out.

"But I suppose Mother Li will negotiate a settlement with them!"

Hearing this, Lin Qing suddenly realized the hardship Mother Li faced in managing the courtyard.

"Mother Li has it rough!" she sincerely exclaimed.

Cen Xi gave her a somewhat puzzled look: "Oh, my silly wife, did you forget that Mother Li also helped mediate between us and the other moms before?"

At that moment, Mother Li stood in the center of the ward, looking at the two people who were still bickering despite their injuries. She truly felt that she was having an incredibly hard time.

She had just started to bring up the issue, and the two of them started arguing again. The doctors and nurses standing nearby were also bewildered by the situation.

They’d seen plenty in this hospital, but never anything quite like this.

Despite being injured, they were still persistently fighting with words. These two mothers were truly formidable.

The medical staff were so frightened that they didn’t dare move, afraid of getting caught in the crossfire. They had even forgotten that this was a hospital, their own domain.

One of the two was sitting, and the other was lying face down. They were facing each other across the bed, hurling insults. The patient in the bed between them had shrunk into a ball, hiding under the blanket, not daring to move, afraid of disturbing the two who were passionately cursing at each other.

The most pitiful person was him.

He had been resting just moments before when a loud shout startled him awake. He then saw the two of them start cursing at each other. The volume and vulgarity of their words dealt him countless points of damage.

Although he knew they were cursing at each other, he felt like they were both cursing at him. Afraid of disturbing their tirade, he quickly turned over and covered his head with the blanket, trembling under the covers. He was terrified that the two might suddenly rush at each other and start fighting.

——Wuwuwu... He was really so pitiful. Why did he have to be sick at this time? Why did he have to be in this bed?

Many of the onlookers couldn’t help but chuckle at his actions.

    Poor guy!
