Chapter 455: Insanity – Daily Melon Eating at the Sickly Aunt’s Compound
by 苓菱子Chapter 455: Chaos – The Sickly Young Aunt’s Daily Drama in the Compound
Lin Qing was still feeling emotional by lunchtime!
"Huihui, being pregnant is no joke!"
Fu Huihui was now about three months pregnant, and she was starting to show!
"It is quite tough, but when I think about the baby in my belly being ours, I feel all the hardship is worth it!"
Lin Qing watched as Fu Huihui radiated a motherly glow—so radiant, it made her a little jealous!
She wondered if she’d ever feel that way herself.
But it didn’t seem too bad. Lin Qing wasn’t particularly resistant to the idea of pregnancy, but Cen Xi didn’t want her risking it right now. Thinking of this, she couldn’t help but smile happily.
Fu Huihui and Lin Qing exchanged glances, both seeing their happiness mirrored in each other’s eyes.
However, Fu Huihui thought it was weird that her friend suddenly brought up this topic. "Why did you mention this just now? Are you thinking about having a baby?"
"No, there’s a colleague in the office whose wife is about to give birth. He said his wife can’t seem to gain weight, no matter what she eats, and he’s worried she won’t have enough milk. He asked us for advice, so we suggested he try getting a doctor’s note to stock up on formula, just in case."
"Which colleague in your office are you talking about?" Fu Huihui looked a little off as she asked.
Lin Qing answered without thinking, "It’s Hu Liang! We usually call him Liang Zi!"
"Oh! So it’s him!" Fu Huihui’s hunch was right.
Lin Qing now noticed the change in her expression. "What’s up? Why the weird look when I mentioned him?"
Fu Huihui hesitated, like she wasn’t sure she should say anything.
Lin Qing gently shook her arm. "Just tell me!"
"Alright, alright, I’ll tell you!" Fu Huihui lowered her voice. "Listen, Hu Liang’s wife… she’s really something. She’s dead set on spoiling her own family!
It’s just the two of them in their household. Hu Liang sends ten yuan back to his hometown, and the rest should be enough for them to live on.
But his wife is clueless—every month, she drags bags of stuff back to her parents’ home.
She doesn’t want her husband to notice, so she skimps on food for herself!"
"What?" Lin Qing was totally floored. Any pity she had felt for Hu Liang’s wife instantly vanished.
"Is that true? How do you know?"
"Hehe! Talk about a coincidence! Hu Liang lives in the same apartment building as my parents, and his wife’s family lives on the same street as where I live now!"
Lin Qing was stunned yet again!
"That’s way too coincidental!"
"Right? Let me tell you, Hu Liang’s wife is famous for being the most devoted daughter on our street!" Fu Huihui said, pretending to be serious.
Lin Qing gave her a skeptical look—the tone didn’t sound like genuine praise.
"Hahaha! Mainly because every time she visits her parents, her mom goes out to brag about it! Us neighbors have heard it so much, we’re sick of it!
They think it’s something to be proud of, but everyone just laughs behind their backs—what an idiot Hu Liang’s wife is!"
We neighbors have all observed this. Hu Liang's wife wasn't so bold at first, but ever since she got pregnant, she probably gained confidence from her pregnancy!
The amount she sends back to her parents' home each month is almost all of her own food rations. And we all suspect she must be secretly giving her parents money too—who knows how much!"
Lin Qing sometimes really couldn't understand it. She considered herself a very filial daughter to her own parents, but filial piety should be within one's means. She never let it worsen her own life!
But Hu Liang's wife seemed to be playing by a different set of rules!
"How come Hu Liang seems completely unaware of this?" Lin Qing was quite curious. After being married for so long, how could he not notice anything?
Fu Huihui's expression grew even more hard to describe. "You wouldn't believe it—if I hadn't married into this neighborhood, I wouldn't have known either! Back when I was still living with my parents, Hu Liang's wife actually had a reputation for being dutiful!"
"What?" Lin Qing was taken aback. How could someone who pampers her parents to this extent still be called dutiful?
"Well, the street I live in now is quite far from the old apartment complex. Back when I was with my parents, I often saw Hu Liang's wife carrying a basket out. Who would’ve guessed it was filled with food rations?"
Lin Qing nodded. That made sense—normally, no one would snoop into someone else's basket.
"Honestly, if I hadn’t moved here and heard her parents bragging about it, I’d never have guessed!"
Lin Qing’s expression also turned hard to describe.
This Hu Liang’s wife was a real piece of work!
She was sending her own food rations back to her parents, yet Hu Liang kept eating normally without noticing anything. She just said she wasn’t eating much—no one could suspect a thing!
With a hint of disappointment, Lin Qing said, "This morning, I was even thinking of giving them some of our family’s formula if the hospital prescription wasn’t enough."
Fu Huihui quickly stopped her. "Don’t! Right now, Hu Liang’s wife is still holding back because the baby hasn’t been born yet. But once she delivers a son, who knows how recklessly she’ll start supporting her parents? The formula you give might just end up in her parents’ pockets—it’d be a waste!"
Lin Qing sighed. "I’ve never seen anyone so fixated!"
Fu Huihui leaned in closer. "Here’s something interesting—one of the older women in our neighborhood accidentally overheard what Hu Liang’s wife’s parents really think of her."
Then, Fu Huihui put on a dramatic performance: *"Ahem, that second daughter is such a fool! A few sweet words from me, and she eagerly hands over all the family’s food! Next time she visits, flatter her more and coax everything she has out of her!"*
Lin Qing guessed, "That must be Hu Liang’s mother-in-law talking!"
"Haha! See? I got it spot-on!" Fu Huihui was proud of how well she’d copied the older woman’s mannerisms.
"Hu Liang’s really got it rough…"
"Yeah, but it’s their business. Outsiders can’t interfere too much," Fu Huihui subtly reminded Lin Qing.
Lin Qing nodded. She understood—sticking your nose in others’ affairs often just lands you in trouble.
