Chapter 435: Showing Off—The Sickly Sister-in-Law's Daily Drama in the Compound

The two of them pondered for a while but still couldn’t figure it out, so they simply gave up. Who cares!

"Let’s just keep eating! Forget about her." Lin Qing shook her head and brushed it off.

"Alright!" Fu Huihui didn’t dwell on it either, and the two dug into their food.

"Burp!" After finishing their meal, they both let out contented burps.

"Hahaha!" They burst into laughter again, sharing a laugh.

Packing up their lunchboxes, they headed back to the office to rest, chatting and laughing as they walked.

However, halfway there, someone suddenly blocked their path. Lin Qing looked up, frowned slightly at the sight of the person, and took half a step forward, stepping in front of Fu Huihui.

Zhang Mei looked at Lin Qing, forcing a wrinkled smile. "What are the odds of seeing you here!"

"What do you want?" Lin Qing knew she wouldn’t stop them for no reason.

"Little sister, what are you saying? I really just happened to see you and wanted to say hello!"

Lin Qing’s expression remained cold. "I don’t think our relationship warrants such a greeting."

Zhang Mei’s smile stiffened. "After all, I’m still your sister-in-law!"

"Hmm." Lin Qing nodded. Zhang Mei thought she had finally acknowledged her, but the next moment—

    "An ex-sister-in-law."

    Zhang Mei’s smile instantly dropped.

She took a deep breath, exhaled slowly, and pasted on another smile. "Little sister..."

Lin Qing raised her hand to stop her rambling. "Just say what you want. No need to waste time beating around the bush."

Zhang Mei seethed inside—this sister-in-law was as infuriating as ever!

Despite her internal rage, she plastered a smile on her face. "Hah! I just wanted to share some good news with you!"

Lin Qing’s droopy eyes showed no interest. "Oh."

Zhang Mei was surprised. "Aren’t you curious?"

"Not curious." Lin Qing’s voice was monotone.

    Zhang Mei: "..."

Fine, whether she was curious or not, Zhang Mei had to say it—otherwise, all this effort would be pointless!

"Hah! Well, as you can see, I’m now your colleague!"

"Oh." Lin Qing lifted her gaze slightly, noticing the hint of smugness in Zhang Mei’s eyes. How lame.

Fu Huihui popped her head out from behind Lin Qing. "Hey lady, who are you? I don’t recall seeing your name in the HR files."

Zhang Mei, however, took it as mockery. "What’s with the attitude? Even if I’m just temping, I’m still working here now! Doesn’t that make me your colleague?"

Lin Qing and Fu Huihui’s lips twitched. Her skin was thin—was she really this quick to take offense? She’s so weird and ridiculous!

Fu Huihui: I'm just being honest, what's wrong?

Lin Qing: I don’t know either!

However, no matter how odd or confusing she acted, they did learn one thing—Zhang Mei was here as a substitute, not a permanent employee!

Fu Huihui: That’s what I thought! I’ve never seen Zhang Mei before!

Lin Qing glanced at Zhang Mei, a glimmer of recognition in her eyes. The only person in the factory connected to Zhang Mei was Lin Shu. Considering she was pregnant, it wasn’t surprising she’d find someone to fill in for her!

"Are you done?" Lin Qing asked, her voice eerily calm.

Zhang Mei was stunned by her attitude. How could this be? Shouldn’t Lin Qing be surprised?

Seeing her frozen expression, Lin Qing asked again, "Mind moving aside?"

The hallway wasn’t very wide to begin with, and with Zhang Mei blocking the path like a human barricade, the two couldn’t pass. Otherwise, they wouldn’t have stopped to listen to her monologue!

"Mind moving? Why block the way? If you’re not going, others need to pass!" Someone behind them urged.

"Exactly! This isn’t your private road—move aside!"

Amid the growing complaints, Zhang Mei had no choice but to step aside. Lin Qing shielded Fu Huihui as they slipped past where she'd moved.

As they walked away, Fu Huihui voiced her confusion, "Your relative is really weird. Did she stop us just to brag about being a substitute?"

A temp worker showing off to two permanent employees? What kind of nonsense is that?

Lin Qing’s stern expression immediately softened. "Who knows? I don’t get her, but she’s probably filling in for Lin Shu."

"Lin Shu? Oh, your niece—so that’s her daughter, right?" Fu Huihui paused. "Wait, her daughter? Does she think what’s her daughter’s is hers?"

Lin Qing shook her head. "Can’t say for sure." It was possible.

Fu Huihui let out a small gasp. "Oh! Does Lin Shu’s husband’s family know about this?"

Lin Qing turned to her. "I think...probably not." At least before this morning, she hadn’t heard Lin Shu and Mother Jiang arguing over it.

As they walked, both suddenly stopped and exchanged glances—so they’re clueless?

    "I..."

Lin Qing cut herself off. No swearing—not with a baby on board.

Her eyes sparkling, she said, "I bet there’ll be a huge scene in our courtyard today!"

Fu Huihui also foresaw a family war, though disappointed she’d miss it. "That sucks!"

Lin Qing’s bright eyes dimmed. "Ugh, I might miss it too!"

"Why?" Fu Huihui didn’t get it.

"Lin Shu went home. She’ll have to eat lunch, right? Showing up would give her away." Lin Qing figured anyone could see something was off.

"Or maybe she’ll get away with it at lunch!" Fu Huihui said.

Lin Qing’s downcast eyes lit up. "You’re right! Maybe the fight’s delayed till after work." Heh! She might still catch it!

Fu Huihui linked arms with Lin Qing. "Qing Qing, how about I visit after work?"

Lin Qing gave a wry laugh.

"No way! Think your husband would agree?"

Fu Huihui made a face. "...Fine."

Seeing her pout, Lin Qing suppressed a smile. Sometimes she worried Fu Huihui was more interested in the gossip than the baby on board!
