Chapter 272: Accidental Injury – Daily Melon Eating in the Courtyard of the Sickly Young Lady
by 苓菱子Chapter 272: Accidental Harm - Courtyard Scandal of the Frail Younger Sister-in-Law
Though Wang Lao Da's wife didn’t understand why Lin Shu was so agitated, it didn’t stop her from continuing her act.
The way Wang Lao Da's wife hesitated and held back only made Lin Shu feel more certain that her suspicions were correct.
The three sisters-in-law of the Wang family were all victims of their mother-in-law’s oppression, just like her, and Lin Shu felt their pain deeply.
"Tell me, isn’t it you, the mother-in-law, who's tormenting your daughters-in-law?" Lin Shu asked fiercely.
"Bah! You little tramp! It's these scheming wenches who are trying to steal my job!"
Lin Shu wasn’t sure whom to believe for a moment. The three sisters-in-law of the Wang family all looked mistreated, heads bowed, not daring to meet Auntie Wang’s gaze.
"If you don’t believe me, ask them! Aren’t these scheming wenches trying to steal my son’s job?" Auntie Wang pointed at the crowd.
Lin Shu turned to the others, her eyes full of doubt. Before arriving, she had only known that the Wang family’s mother-in-law and daughters-in-law were fighting, but she didn’t know the reason.
However, some onlookers, eager to add fuel to the fire, shouted loudly, "The youngest son of the Wang family, Wang Gousheng, skips work every day. The factory said they’d take away his job. His three sisters-in-law didn’t want to lose the position, so they tried to negotiate with Old Lady Wang to take over."
After hearing this, Lin Shu pretty much got the picture. During this time, a job was as rare as gold dust. Wang Gousheng had one but didn’t cherish it—how could the Wang sisters-in-law let such an opportunity go to waste?
If Wang Gousheng didn’t value the job, why not transfer it to someone who would actually work hard and earn money?
"If Wang Gousheng isn’t going to work, then just transfer the job to someone who will!" Lin Shu thought this was a simple solution.
"Bah! You little tramp, what are you scheming?" Auntie Wang spat immediately flew into a rage.
"Haha! I get it, I get it. If Wang Gousheng loses his job, he’ll have to be sent down to the countryside," someone sharp blurted out.
"How could he possibly want to be sent down? Didn’t he snatch this job from his sister just to avoid being sent down?"
"Didn’t they say his job was about to be taken away? Once it’s gone, he’ll have to be sent down anyway!"
The crowd were shouting opinions, completely forgetting that Wang Gousheng was still present.
"You're all lying! My son won’t lose his job, and he won’t be sent down. Son! Tell them! Tell them you won’t lose your job!" Auntie Wang turned and dragged Wang Gousheng to the center of the courtyard.
Lin Shu felt the core issue was Wang Gousheng’s job. If that could be resolved, the conflict would surely end.
She wanted to persuade Wang Gousheng, but seeing his murderous look, the words caught in her throat.
Wang Gousheng’s predatory stare fell on the three sisters-in-law. "You want my job?"
Though Wang Lao Da's wife was somewhat afraid, she mustered her courage and said, "Since you... you don’t even go to work, and soon the job will be gone anyway, why not just give it to us?"
Lao Er's wife shrank back but chimed in, "That's right."
Wang Gousheng suddenly smiled—a bone-chilling smile.
Auntie Wang, thinking he might actually give up the job, hurriedly intervened, "Son! Don’t be stupid! How could you give the job to them? These good-for-nothing women don’t deserve it!"
She then glared fiercely at the three daughters-in-law. "Don’t worry, Mother will make sure you keep your job."
"Mother, even if I dare to give it to them, would they have the guts to take it? If they go to work, who’ll watch the children at home? What if something happens to the kids?" Wang Gousheng said with a smile.
Mother Li and Old Lady Wang watched the drama unfold from the corner, feeling a cold dread come over them. Others in the crowd felt the same, and the whispers died away completely.
What was Wang Gousheng really threatening?
If someone steals his job, he'll target someone's child, is that it?
The sisters-in-law of the Wang family shuddered hard, staring at Wang Gousheng in disbelief, unable to believe someone would say such cold-blooded words.
Go after their kids? Their children were his nephews—his own family! How dare he? How could he?
They turned their gazes to Auntie Wang, who was also shaking from shock at his words.
"My son! Take it out on them, but their children are your nephews..."
Auntie Wang tried to continue, but Wang Gousheng cut in, "So what? They’re not my own kids anyway."
The sisters-in-law were downright terrified. Though Wang Gousheng had only said he’d harm their children if they dared take his job, what if they just rubbed him the wrong way? Did that mean he could lash out at their kids anytime?
The idea made their blood run cold.
Lin Shu, witnessing this, frowned deeply and raised her voice, "Comrade Wang Gousheng, that kind of thinking is downright evil. Their children are your nephews. If you truly hurt them, that’s a crime—you’ll be arrested!"
"Bullshit! Who’s gonna arrest him? That’s our family’s business!" Auntie Wang snapped back loudly.
The sisters-in-law felt their hearts sink. Their mother-in-law cared only for her youngest son—her grandkids didn’t mean squat next to him. So if her precious son harmed their children, she’d still side with him, wouldn’t she?
Mother Li frowned tightly. "How does trash like this even exist?"
Lin Shu’s mother also felt disgusted. Someone like him should be locked up and reformed.
Many onlookers were boiling mad. How was this lowlife still walking free? He’d already hurt people—how was he still out? Now he dared to threaten children—what wouldn’t he do next?
The three sisters-in-law snapped.
They lunged at the mother and son. You don’t mess with pissed-off women—especially not these three.
Lin Shu was still figuring out how to break it up when, in the blink of an eye, all hell broke loose again.
If it wasn’t a true three-against-one earlier, it was now a full three-against-two. The sisters-in-law stopped attacking each other and focused solely on beating the heartless pair.
Wang Gousheng, who had always intimidated others with his cruelty, had never gotten his ass kicked like this before. For a moment, he froze.
That instant of hesitation cost him the upper hand. Wang Gousheng wasn’t tall, and the eldest sister-in-law was about his height. She grabbed his hair and yanked hard.
"Ah!" He howled in pain.
"My son!" Auntie Wang rushed to his rescue, her claws aiming for the eldest sister-in-law. But the woman wasn’t foolish—she twisted, dragging Wang Gousheng’s hair, and the claws landed on him instead.
Wang Gousheng ended up taking the hit instead.
