Chapter 550: Busy – Daily Gossip in the Sickly Aunt’s Compound
by 苓菱子Chapter 550: The Sickly Sister-in-Law’s Compound Gossip Chronicles
Lin Qing hadn’t discussed this matter with Fu Huihui, but everyone who went for advanced study knew about Zheng Ruoyun’s situation. No one kept it a secret after returning, so many people found out, and Fu Huihui, the gossip queen, certainly didn’t miss it.
After wrapping up the paperwork for Zheng Ruoyun, she recalled the incident and knew Lin Qing must be aware of it too. So, during lunch, she brought it up.
Honestly, Lin Qing didn’t know what to say about Zheng Ruoyun. It’s normal for her to want to remarry, but the way she’s doing it is a bit shady.
Moreover, marrying someone so far away might not lead to a good life—just look at the man’s high-maintenance daughter to get an idea.
But Lin Qing was more curious about something else.
“Huihui, you mentioned someone swapped jobs with her. Who’s the one transferring here?” Lin Qing couldn’t wrap her head around why anyone would move their job from Beijing to their place.
Their place isn’t exactly bad, but it certainly couldn’t compare to the capital.
“I’m not sure either. That person hasn’t arrived yet. I only heard about them, but they’ll likely show up in a few days.”
“Alright.” Lin Qing was quite intrigued by this person.
“I’ll let you know when they arrive.”
“Sounds good!”
……
As for Zhang Mengyun’s weird behavior, Mother Lin noticed it too and mentioned it to Lin Qing when she had a moment.
“Mom, how did you notice?”
Frowning, Mother Lin said, “She’s rarely home lately. I hardly see her in the compound during the day.” Since she was always around the compound, the change was glaringly obvious.
“Huh?” Lin Qing was surprised. That was indeed odd.
With Jin Jianhua recovering at home, Zhang Mengyun wasn’t staying by his side but was instead constantly out and about—very unusual.
“Maybe she’s just busy with something?” Lin Qing guessed casually.
“Perhaps.” Mother Lin didn’t want to pry too much but thought it was kinda weird.
……
Zhang Mengyun had indeed been busy outside lately, putting her plans into motion.
Jin Jianhua, her husband, also picked up on something fishy.
“Yunyun, why have you been going out so much lately? Are you… sick of me?” He glanced at her before lowering his head, putting on a sad face.
Zhang Mengyun quickly shook her head. “No, how could I be? Brother Jianhua, don’t worry. I’d never turn my back on you.”
“Really?” Jin Jianhua’s expression shifted instantly, putting on a strained smile as he said, “Yunyun, maybe we should get a divorce. I can’t drag you down like this. I’ll let you go!”
“No! I won’t divorce you.” Zhang Mengyun had never considered it. In her mind, a divorced woman is seen as worthless, and she refused to become that.
Besides, she still loved Brother Jianhua deeply. Even if he had once betrayed her, that’s all water under the bridge. Now that he’s stuck like this, he’d be hers and hers alone—no one else could take him away.
“Yunyun…” Jin Jianhua looked at her with feigned emotion.
Truthfully, he didn’t want a divorce either. He had said it deliberately. In his current state, he needed to keep Zhang Mengyun on a tight leash.
"Brother Jianhua, don't you want to know why I've been going out so often?"
"Yeah."
Suddenly, Zhang Mengyun caressed her belly lovingly and said, "I have some good news to tell you... I'm pregnant."
"What do you mean?" Jin Jianhua didn't react immediately.
"You're pregnant?" The next second, Jin Jianhua became extremely excited, his eyes shining as he looked at her belly.
He could hardly believe it. Just when he had resigned himself to fate, fate had given him such a huge surprise.
"Yes, yes. I got tested a couple of days ago."
"How many months?" Jin Jianhua was still a bit skeptical, but he didn't think Zhang Mengyun would betray him.
"Just over a month." Zhang Mengyun lowered her eyes as she spoke.
Jin Jianhua did the math. He had indeed been with Zhang Mengyun around that time. Once he realized this, he grew even more thrilled and excited.
"That's wonderful, just wonderful! I'm finally gonna be a dad! Hahaha..."
Zhang Mengyun smiled too. She’d made the right call.
She lowered her eyes again and said, "Now that I'm pregnant, there are many things I can't do easily, so I wanted to ask your mom to help. But she wasn't too keen. I thought if I asked her a few more times, she’d come around..."
Jin Jianhua was deeply touched by her words. "You’ve been through so much, Yunyun!"
Zhang Mengyun replied sincerely, "Don't mention it. I'd do anything for you." Including having a child to give you an heir.
Jin Jianhua was truly completely overwhelmed. Since his injury, none of his family had come to visit him even once, and he was pretty bummed.
In truth, the Jin family were kinda embarrassed, but it wasn’t that they didn’t want to visit. It was just that every time they planned to, Zhang Mengyun headed them off.
Zhang Mengyun had pulled out all the stops to ensure Jin Jianhua would have an heir. To avoid arousing his suspicion, she didn’t even consider an outsider.
Instead, she zeroed in on Jin Jianhua’s younger brother, Jin Lao'er.
Jin Lao'er was only a year and a half younger than Jin Jianhua. He had landed a temporary job for himself and hadn’t gone to the countryside like his brother.
To ensure the smooth progress of her plan, she even let Jin’s mother in on it.
Jin’s parents, who were eager to keep Zhang Mengyun tied to their family, went along with it.
After all, whether the child was the elder brother’s or the younger brother’s, it would still be their family’s. As long as their daughter-in-law stayed, it didn’t matter whose it was.
Jin Lao'er didn’t refuse either. His family’s circumstances were poor, and finding a wife was difficult. Now, he was getting laid for free—why would he say no?
To cooperate fully, he even had Jin Lao'san take his shifts for a few days.
And so, they came up with this scheme.
Zhang Mengyun used the pretense of seeking Jin’s mother’s help to hook up with Jin Lao'er.
Moreover, she had started this plan the very next day after making her decision.
She wanted to get pregnant as quickly as possible to avoid raising suspicion.
Now, it had already been over two weeks.
Zhang Mengyun was sweating profusely from exertion. When they finished, she neatly put her clothes back on and said, "This is the last time today. I won't come again after this!"
"Sweet sis, calling it quits already? Are you so sure there's already a bun in your belly?"
"Your brother is getting suspicious."
"What if there isn't?"
"..." Zhang Mengyun fell silent.
"No baby, no problem - we'll just keep trying."
"Fine, whatever you say!" Jin Lao'er didn't push it—after all, he was coming out ahead either way.
"Then let's really make this last one count!" No sense wasting the house their family had deliberately left empty for them.
"Ah!"
