Chapter 273: Severely Injured – Daily Melon Eating in the Courtyard of the Sickly Young Lady
by 苓菱子Chapter 273: Severely Injured—The Sickly Young Aunt’s Drama-Filled Daily Life in the Compound
"Aargh!" Wang Gousheng cried out again, pain sharp in his voice.
Lin Shu’s mother and Mother Li watched from the corner, gleefully satisfied. Serves him right—bastard had it coming; scum like him shouldn’t even be alive.
"Ahhh! Let go!" Auntie Wang struggled, blocked by the other two Wang family wives.
"You want to hurt my child, is that it?" The eldest sister-in-law of the Wang family's face twisted with fury.
They had always tolerated this younger brother-in-law before, but now he dared to brazenly threaten their children—how could they endure it?
Auntie Wang occasionally managed to break through the encirclement of the other two sisters-in-law, but she was quick-witted. Every time Auntie Wang reached out, she would drag Wang Gousheng in front of her as a shield.
Thanks to the old woman’s cruelty—having worked them to the bone before—each of the daughters-in-law had built up some muscle. Dealing with Wang Gousheng alone, she could handle him with ease.
The scene was cathartic to watch, though no one dared say it aloud. After all, who knew if Wang Gousheng would seek revenge later?
Lin Shu didn’t particularly like Wang Gousheng either, but if she let him get beaten, what if he came after her later?
She regretted taking on this task. No wonder the office’s sly old foxes had all refused—they must have known something!
The thought filled her with resentment.
She stomped her foot in frustration, unsure of what to do.
Suddenly, she turned and saw Jiang Li. "Jiang Li, what should we do?"
"You’re asking me? What’s your problem?"
"How can you just freeload on the credit? I brought you along so you could contribute, not sit back and do nothing!" Lin Shu’s mind raced as she tried to shift the responsibility onto her.
Jiang Li wasn’t that foolish. "I never wanted to come in the first place. If even the seniors in the office couldn’t handle it, how could I?"
Lin Shu gritted her teeth. "If you can’t handle it, can’t you at least think of something?"
"Didn’t you lead this team? Shouldn’t you be the one figuring it out?" Jiang Li stared straight at her.
Lin Shu felt utterly humiliated under her gaze.
Hmph! Fine, she’d think of something herself. If she really managed to resolve this, she’d make sure to rat her out properly when they got back.
Behind Lin Shu’s back, Jiang Li rolled her eyes. Really? Did she think she was that stupid? Trying to make her the fall guy—dream on!
If Lin Shu had been hesitant before, she had made up her mind now.
She would wrap this up neatly and then tattle on Jiang Li to their supervisor.
"Let’s talk this out properly. Stop fighting!"
"Calm down and talk!"
Lin Shu danced around yelling near the five of them, but no one paid her any attention.
She tried to step in and pull them apart as before, but this time, she failed.
When she reached out to grab Auntie Wang, the woman swung around and slapped her.
Lin Shu staggered back, stunned, before letting out a shrill scream. "Ahhh! How dare you hit me?" Her cheek burned, humiliation stinging sharper than the slap itself.
Lin Shu was never one to take things lying down—she had a shred of selflessness, but barely. And now, after being slapped, she tossed all her earlier principles out the window.
Mother Lin and Mother Li, along with the other onlookers, were gaping in shock.
Mother Li’s worries had come true, while Mother Lin found it perfectly reasonable. Lin Shu was never one to endure humiliation, let alone after being slapped—retaliation was only natural.
"Don’t worry, she won’t take any losses."
"I’m not worried about her taking losses—I’m afraid that mother and son from the Wang family might get beaten to death."
Mother Lin: "Uh..."
Honestly, if you asked her, they’d deserve it even if they were beaten to death. If not, they should at least be arrested and reformed. People with such warped thinking left unchecked would only harm society.
Lin Shu joined the Wang womenfolk in beating Auntie Wang. Her participation delighted the three Wang womenfolk—this was just the break they needed! They immediately split off one person to team up with Wang the Eldest’s wife and beat Wang Gousheng.
At first, Wang Gousheng had been caught flat-footed, which was why he was getting thrashed so badly. But after all, he was a man. Once he got his second wind, he started fighting back.
However, another Wang womanfolk came to help and had him pinned.
Four on two—the situation was completely one-sided.
For Lin Shu, beating Auntie Wang wasn’t just settling a score—she also saw Auntie Wang as a stand-in for Mother Jiang.
Though she had fought with Mother Jiang, her mother-in-law, the day before, neither side had suffered any real losses, which still stuck in her craw. And now, after being slapped by Auntie Wang, she had the perfect excuse to hit back.
After a long while, Auntie Wang took advantage of a moment when Lin Shu and the Wang womenfolk relaxed slightly. She heaved Lin Shu aside and launched herself at Wang Gousheng.
Wang the Eldest’s wife was still gripping Wang Gousheng’s hair, and since Auntie Wang was throwing herself onto him, she didn’t let go.
Another Wang womanfolk reacted quickly—the moment Auntie Wang lunged, she jumped to the other side. Auntie Wang couldn’t pull up and crashed straight into Wang Gousheng.
"Ah—!"
The crowd had been watching the fight for so long that their eyes were growing weary. But this sudden, sharp scream sounded different from before.
They immediately perked up, focusing their gaze—and every single one of them was stunned.
Holy smokes!!!
What the hell was happening?!
Had they just blinked for a second?!
In disbelief, they rubbed their eyes and blinked—no, they weren’t seeing things!
Wasn’t Auntie Wang’s elbow jamming right into her son’s crown jewels?!
Right?! Right?! That was really happening, wasn’t it?!
Auntie Wang herself froze. She looked down at her son, then at her elbow, and immediately tried to push herself up. But as she braced her other hand on the ground, her elbow came down hard again.
"Aaaargh—!" Another blood-curdling scream.
Even Wang the Eldest’s wife was stunned, her grip tightening unconsciously. Wang Gousheng’s scalp was on fire, getting it from both ends, his face twisted in agony.
He wanted to curl up, but Wang the Eldest’s wife held on too tightly. In the end, all he could do was draw up his knees.
Finally realizing her elbow had inflicted two crippling shots on her own son, Auntie Wang clambered off of him—talk about adding insult to injury!
"My son! Are you okay?"
"Ow! It hurts!" Wang Gousheng whined.
Auntie Wang refused to believe she had hurt her own son, so she shifted the blame.
"It's all your fault! If you hadn't dodged, my son wouldn't have been hurt so badly!" She pointed at the Wang sister-in-law who had just moved aside and started cursing.
"The hell it was! It was clearly you who hurt him. Everyone saw it, and you still want to pin it on me? That’s a damn lie!"
Auntie Wang ignored her—she wouldn’t take the blame, so she hurled it at someone else, spewing a nasty tirade at the Wang sister-inlaw, cursing her ancestors and hurling every vulgar insult imaginable.
The Wang sister-in-law was already furious. Remembering Wang Gousheng’s earlier threats and now Auntie Wang’s toxic rant, she snapped and went all out.
"So you're saying I hurt him, huh?" The Wang sister-in-law gave a bitter laugh.
"Darn right!"
