Chapter 540: Accident – Daily Gossip in the Sickly Aunt’s Compound
by 苓菱子Chapter 540: Accident—The Sickly Young Aunt’s Hospital Drama Gossip Session
Lin Qing was about to follow the crowd when Cen Xi stopped her.
"Huh? What’s up?"
Cen Xi looked at her, his eyes full of amusement. "Qing Qing, do you remember why you came out in the first place?"
Lin Qing blinked. She, uh… seemed to recall she had come out to pee.
She looked up at Cen Xi, who smiled—clearly, she had remembered.
Lin Qing thought for a moment and said, "I don’t need to go anymore."
Cen Xi chuckled but said nothing. Alright then!
"Alright, might as well tag along!" He knew that if they didn’t follow, they probably wouldn’t be able to sleep after returning.
The two entered the hospital, where the entire lobby was full of folks from their neighborhood, bustling and lively.
Everyone was just like them—too curious to sleep without knowing the outcome.
Some chatted with neighbors, others with doctors and nurses, and some even were chatting up patients…
Lin Qing figured it wouldn’t be long before the whole hospital knew exactly what went down.
Mom Lin happened to spot the two and brought Dad Lin over.
"See? Told ya she’d show up!" If their daughter came, her husband was bound to follow.
"Yeah, yeah, you’ve got her figured out!" Dad Lin said dotingly.
"Dad! Mom!"
"Dad! Mom!"
"What were you two talking about?" Lin Qing asked curiously.
"Nothing! We were just taking bets on whether you’d come."
Lin Qing widened her eyes. Why even bet on that?
Duh, she’d come—how could she sleep without knowing how things turned out?
"We were just wondering whether to lock your door when we went back to get our jackets. That’s why we made the bet."
"Did you lock it?"
"Of course we did. The whole family’s out—why wouldn’t we lock it?" Mom Lin tossed her the key to their room.
Lin Qing took it.
Only then did Cen Xi remember they hadn’t locked the door when they left. Good thing her parents had it covered and had thought of it.
"By the way, what’s the update on the injured?" Lin Qing thought of Zhou Qin and the others.
Mom Lin had just come from the emergency area and knew the situation. "Zhou Qin and Jin Jianhua are already in surgery. The others are being patched up."
Recalling the night’s events, Lin Qing could only shake her head in disbelief. Who saw *that* coming?
This turned out to be a complete wipeout!
Everyone was injured!
Lin Mother led them to Mother Li, who was waiting exhaustedly by the OR doors.
Most of their neighbors from the courtyard were gathered here.
Mother Li and the others had just come from the emergency room, where the injuries weren’t as severe. Once the doctors patched them up, they were sent to the wards.
Lin Qing was about to ask what was happening when suddenly she saw doctors urgently wheeling a gurney their way. "Make way, hurry!"
Everyone quickly cleared a path.
Lin Qing and the others saw Wang Qiaomei lying on the bed, her face pale and drenched in sweat, looking extremely unwell.
And unless their eyes deceived them, there was a patch of blood on the pristine white sheets.
Lin Qing gasped. What now?
Mother Li, stunned, clutched Mother Lin’s hand, trembling uncontrollably. "Blood..." She knew what that kind of bleeding meant.
Mother Lin was equally surprised. "She's pregnant?"
Cen Xi and Father Lin, being men, weren’t as perceptive and hadn’t made the connection. "Pregnant? With what?"
Lin Qing frowned slightly. "Mother, are you saying she was carrying a child?"
Mother Lin nodded slowly. "Mm."
The crowd reeled from one shock after another. Now, this bombshell—Wang Qiaomei was pregnant.
One question burned in their minds: Whose child was it?
And, and—Zhou Qin got wrecked. Who knew if he’d even be functional? And that pretty-boy loser too. What if both were left sterile? Wouldn’t this baby be their only hope for a bloodline?
So whose was it really?
As they pondered, they seemed to foresee the future. Damn—this was gonna be messy!
Of course, that was assuming Wang Qiaomei’s child could be saved.
But earlier, Zhou Qin had swung like he meant to kill—the force he used seemed like he was trying to kill someone.
That baby might not survive.
Just as they thought this, they heard Mother Li murmuring, "She wasn’t bleeding like this when they brought her in! How did it happen so suddenly?" She couldn’t understand.
There was no sign earlier?
Huh—this kid’s a fighter.
Sure enough, the baby clung on.
An hour later, Wang Qiaomei’s doctor came out first.
"Doctor, doctor, how is she?"
"Are you family?"
"Oh, I'm the neighborhood manager of the compound where she lives."
"Where are her family members?"
Mother Li paused for a moment: "...Her husband is in the operating room next door."
The doctor glanced toward the adjacent operating room, where two men with crushed balls were being treated.
The doctor just stared blankly: "..."
"What about other family members?"
"...They're in the emergency room."
The emergency room seemed to be packed with injured folks, all immobilized.
The doctor just sighed: "..."
"Is there really no other family available?"
"There are, but they live too far away—in West City. And at this late hour..." it wouldn’t be convenient to notify them.
"..." The doctor went quiet once more.
"Alright. Let me fill you in first, and then you can pass it along to her family later."
"Okay!" Mother Li nodded.
"She's pregnant, about a month pregnant.
Earlier, when we saw her covered in injuries and used some liniment while treating her, the oil irritated her and caused spotting. That’s how we discovered she was pregnant.
Fortunately, the baby’s a fighter and hung on. But the mother is currently weak and must rest in bed."
"Oh, I see!" Mother Li nodded.
As the doctor spoke, he also found it quite unbelievable. "Honestly, the baby inside her is one tough little bean.
Given her condition, she must have took a brutal beating earlier, yet the baby didn’t even flinch and remained snug inside her.
If it hadn’t been for the medicated oil setting off the bleeding, we might’ve missed it entirely!"
Everyone listening couldn’t help but nod in agreement. His account lined up with what Mother Li had described—Wang Qiaomei’s baby was no ordinary baby—that kid’s hardcore!
After all, they saw the whole thing go down. They saw just how bad Wang Qiaomei got messed up, yet the baby came out unscathed. And even after the recent turmoil, it still held on like a champ. Pretty damn miraculous, right?
