Chapter 316: The Sickly Younger Sister’s Compound Drama-Watching Daily Life

At this moment, the pair also arrived at the compound.

"Do you think Mom and Dad will really agree?" Lin Feng asked nervously.

"Why wouldn’t they? You’re their only son. If they don’t leave the house to you, who else would they leave it to?" Zhang Mei felt that as long as she held onto this point, it’d be a slam dunk.

"Hurry up! I heard the old couple went to the outskirts and usually return around this time. If we go now, we might just run into them—maybe even snag some goodies!"

Lin Feng opened his mouth but hesitated. He felt his wife was being overly naive.

Before, he had always believed that as his parents' only son, they would never abandon him—after all, they’d be counting on him to support them in their old age.

But after their family of four was booted out, he wasn’t so sure anymore.

And later, when his younger sister took on the responsibility of supporting their parents, his uncertainty only grew.

Lin Feng followed Zhang Mei in silence as they entered the compound.

The other folks in the compound looked at them in surprise, their eyes immediately darting toward the west wing where their daughter lived, assuming Zhang Mei had come again to demand money from her daughter.

But to their astonishment, Zhang Mei didn’t head for her daughter’s place. Instead, she went straight to the parents’ quarters. Mother Jiang relaxed instantly.

After returning, Lin Qing and Cen Xi hadn’t rested either. They sat in the sitting room with books, each reading a book, creating a cozy and peaceful atmosphere.

But this peace was shattered by the arrival of Zhang Mei and Lin Feng.

    "Little sister!"

The moment Lin Qing heard that familiar voice, she lifted her head blank-faced. "What are you here for?"

Lin Qing gave her brother Lin Feng a cold stare, and he noticed, his face turning red and white with embarrassment.

Zhang Mei had seen it too, but she pretended not to notice and plowed on, ignoring her. "We’re here to discuss something with Mom and Dad."

"What is it?" Lin Qing fixed them with a steady glare.

Lin Feng looked somewhat ashamed, while Zhang Mei acted like it was her right.

"It’s about the house! Since you’ve already taken Mom and Dad in to live with you, shouldn’t the old house be given to us?"

Lin Qing barked a laugh in disbelief. "Hah! You’ve got quite the imagination. What does the house have to do with you?"

"How is it unrelated? Your brother is their only son. Shouldn’t their house go to him?"

"Hah!" Lin Qing sneered. "Their only son?" She gave Lin Feng a meaningful look. "Lin Feng, do you really think you deserve that house?"

She didn’t even bother calling him "brother" anymore.

Zhang Mei, however, seized on her slip-up. "Lin Qing, how can you be so rude? He’s your brother! Are you refusing to even call him that now? An elder brother should act like a father—how can you talk back to your elders like this?"

"Hahaha! 'An elder brother should act like a father'? What a joke! Lin Feng, why don’t you tell me—have you ever acted like an elder brother should? Do you have any shame?" Lin Qing demanded coldly.

Under her relentless questioning, Lin Feng was so ashamed he wanted to sink into the floor.

"Just drop it," Lin Feng said, pulling Zhang Mei back to prevent her from continuing.

    "Let’s get out of here."

"Leave? The hell we will!" Zhang Mei shoved him away.

"Why the hell should I leave?" he retorted. "I’ll wait right here for Mom and Dad to come back. I refuse to believe they’d give you the house."

Lin Qing almost laughed in her face. Did Zhang Mei really think her parents would act as she claimed?

"If you want to wait, do it outside," Lin Qing snapped, pointing toward the door. "Get out—you’re not welcome here."

"You—" Zhang Mei nearly cursed her out, but Cen Xi’s warning glare instantly deflated her.

Her bluster died instantly, and she no longer dared to make a scene.

She had no choice but to yank Lin Feng outside. Noticing the nosy neighbors staring, her eyes gleamed with scheming, darting around before she hatched a plan.

She dragged Lin Feng toward the west wing, calling out, "Mother Jiang, where’s my daughter?"

Mother Jiang barely held back an eye roll. "How should I know? She’s never here—probably off gallivanting somewhere."

Zhang Mei blew up. "What nonsense! My daughter would never do that! She came to see us this morning and refused to stay for lunch, saying she had to come back and cook for you. And you have the nerve to badmouth her?"

Mother Jiang scoffed. "Oh, suddenly she’s a saint? More like she wanted to save your family a meal. Cut the crap!"

"You—" Zhang Mei opened her mouth, ready to argue.

Just then, Lin’s parents pushed their bicycles into the courtyard.

Zhang Mei’s anger vanished in a flash, and she rushed over eagerly. "Mom, Dad, you’re finally back! Here, let me help!"

Lin’s father sidestepped, keeping the bike out of her reach.

    "Dad!"

Lin’s mother’s face turned stormy at the sight of her daughter-in-law. "What are you two doing here?"

"Oh, we just *had* to see you!" Zhang Mei forced a smile.

Lin’s mother sneered. "Since when do you give a damn about us? You probably want something again, don’t you?"

Zhang Mei’s smile froze. "No, of course not!"

"Spit it out. What’s your game?" Lin’s mother was exhausted and had no patience for games.

Zhang Mei squirmed awkwardly. "Well, Mom, Dad, we just wanted to discuss something with you."

Lin’s mother wanted to gag at the fake smile. "Yeah, *totally* not here to beg." So much for not coming to ask for things—she couldn’t even last two seconds without slipping up.

Zhang Mei squirmed further but pressed on.

"Mom, Dad, since you’ve moved in with Lin Qing, shouldn’t the house at home go to us?"

The sheer audacity left them speechless. Lin’s parents gaped at her, stunned.

"You’ve got to be kidding me," Lin’s mother muttered.

"I said, hand over the house already!" Zhang Mei persisted. "Think of all the rent money we’d save!"

"What does our house have to do with you? Who said we're giving it to you?"

Zhang Mei's face instantly darkened. "How is it unrelated? Feng is your only son. Who else would you give the house to if not us?"

"Only son? So what? Does he support us in our old age? Why should we give our house to him?" Father and Mother Lin gave Lin Feng a pointed look.

Lin Feng, red with embarrassment, tugged at Zhang Mei. "Stop talking. Let's just go back!"

"What do you mean you won't give it to us?!" Zhang Mei immediately shouted.
