"Come on, tell me, what exactly did you two do?" Lin Wu urged.
"We didn't do anything, just said a few words," Zhang Mei shrank back, frightened by Lin Wu's tone, and muttered.
"Ha! Just a few words, and look how upset they got!"
"No, I didn't do that," Zhang Mei didn't really think there was anything wrong with her mutterings earlier that morning.
"Enough, don't ask anymore. I'll go look for a house tomorrow, and we'll move out in a couple of days!" Lin Feng interrupted their conversation.
No need to discuss it further; the elders had already decided they were moving out.
Lin Shu had already returned after seeing off the guests. At that moment, the four family members were sitting in the living room. Lin Shu didn't join the discussion since it would happen after her wedding, so it didn't concern her much.
Of course, this was also because she was the one who had caused the whole situation, so she didn't dare to speak up, fearing all the attention would focus on her.
Lin Shu didn’t want to stir up trouble and planned to talk to her mother-in-law about the dowry later.
Lin Qing had stayed in the hospital for one night and one morning. Originally, she had planned to be discharged in the morning, but Cen Xi didn't want her to get up so early, and he intended to pick her up from the hospital himself and take her home. If Lin Qing were to be discharged early in the morning, Cen Xi might have to take leave from work.
However, Lin Qing didn't want Cen Xi to take leave again just two days after returning from his honeymoon, so they decided to be discharged at noon.
This way, Cen Xi only needed to skip his lunch break to pick her up and bring her home.
At noon, they didn't feel like cooking at home, so they decided to have a meal at the hospital's cafeteria. The hospital food was nutritious and affordable, and mainly because Nurse Liu had mentioned that the hospital was serving braised chicken with potatoes for lunch that day, a rare meat dish. So, they decided to just have a simple meal at the hospital.
After finishing their meal at the hospital, they leisurely made their way back home.
As Lin Qing and Cen Xi stepped into the courtyard, they saw Mother Su standing at the door, greeting them with a gentle smile, "Lin Qing, you're discharged?"
"Yes, Mother Su, I’m discharged. The doc said I need to rest up at home, and here’s my meds," Lin Qing showed her the bag of medicine she had brought back, also letting her know that the money spent by Mother Gu and Mother Su hadn't been wasted.
Mother Su's eyes flickered, but she still smiled gently, "That's good, that's good, being discharged means there's nothing serious!"
Lin Qing pretended not to understand the implication in her words and smiled as well, "Yes, the doctor said there's nothing serious with me now, but he also told me to take good care of my body and not to get angry again. I was spoiled by my parents since I was young, so I have a bit of a temper and don't like it when others contradict me, which makes me easily angered. I really hope nothing like yesterday's incident happens again!" Lin Qing's final remark was genuinely heartfelt; she really didn't want any more trouble like what had happened the previous day.
It's better if everyone is fine, as long as I'm not provoked.
"Is that so? Haha!"
Mother Su couldn't really tell if this was true or false. Given Lin Qing's pale complexion, no one would believe her if she said she was healthy. If she just fell down, she could claim to be ill. After the hospital's examination, they confirmed that she had health issues, forcing people to accept the situation. Just like what happened with Mother Gu and Mother Su this time; they had to take a loss.
It seemed that in the future, it would be best not to provoke her. Otherwise, even all the money in the world wouldn't be enough to compensate!
Cen Xi watched the exchange between the two with a smile. After the incident with Su Dazhuang last night, he knew the Su family wasn't all that good. Now that his wife could suppress this third major issue in the front courtyard, it would make things easier for them in the future. So, he didn't interfere much and let Lin Qing handle it herself.
Seeing that Lin Qing had managed to leave Mother Su speechless with just a few words, Cen Xi felt it was enough and spoke up, "Alright, Qingqing should go back and rest now. It's noon, and the sun is so big; you can't stand in this sun for too long!"
After being shut down, Mother Su didn’t feel like continuing the conversation. Initially, she had wanted to see if she could catch Lin Qing off guard, but Lin Qing didn’t fall for it. Instead, she emphasized her weak health and how she couldn't bear to be upset.
Mother Su was also afraid that if she accidentally said something wrong and angered Lin Qing, would she have to go to the hospital again? And if she had to pay compensation, what would she do?
"Yes, yes! You should go get some rest, Lin Qing!"
"Yes, I also think I need to rest properly!" Lin Qing didn't bother with any polite remarks.
Right then, only the three of them were in the courtyard; everyone else was either away or staying inside their homes. Lin Qing found the courtyard much quieter without Mother Gu and Mother Su around!
"Cen Xi, don't you feel that our courtyard has become much quieter?" Lin Qing asked after returning home.
"With all the noise at the hospital, no wonder the courtyard’s so peaceful now," Cen Xi replied.
"Yeah, that makes sense!" Lin Qing said with some regret. "I just hope they can stay in the hospital for a few more days and let us enjoy some more peace and quiet in the courtyard."
"One of them has a fractured tailbone, and the other has a dislocated joint. It doesn’t sound too bad, so they probably won’t be there long!" Cen Xi explained.
"Ah? Is that so? What a pity!" Lin Qing said with great disappointment.
"The aunties in our courtyard are all formidable, each one more devious than the last! If you hadn't filled me in on last night's events, I would've thought Mother Su was way friendlier than Mother Gu and Mother Jiang!" Lin Qing, who had personally experienced this, remarked.
Cen Xi looked in the direction of the Su family, his expression serious. "It's best not to have too much contact with the Su family. A dog that bites doesn't bark. Compared to the loud and brash Mother Gu and Mother Jiang, Mother Su is way scarier. She doesn't plot against you openly; it's all done in secret. Who knows what she's up to?"
"I understand," Lin Qing checked her watch, realized it was almost time, and quickly urged him to go to work.
"You need to get going or you'll be late," she said.
"Okay, okay, I'm heading out."
"See ya!" Cen Xi kissed her and dashed off.
Lin Qing covered her mouth, wondering why Cen Xi always acted so recklessly.
