Chapter 200: Since You’re Here – Daily Melon Eating at the Sickly Aunt’s Courtyard
by 苓菱子Chapter 200: Since We're Here - The Daily Gossip of the Sickly Young Aunt in the Courtyard
Lin Qing gazed at the deserted courtyard and wondered if she should go after them to see what was happening.
But it was still pretty hot in the late afternoon. It was already around four or five, and the sun was still blazing outside. Ah, forget it. I’m not going out!
Lin Qing looked at the scorching sun and decided against it.
She looked down at her comic book again; it was a new one she had bought, and she had only read less than half of it so far! She had to hurry up and finish it.
Lin Qing was completely absorbed in her comic book when she suddenly noticed a shadow fall in front of her. She looked up, let out a scream, "Ah!" but then a smile spread across her lips.
Immediately after, Lin Qing's delighted voice rang out, "Brother Nan, you’re home!"
"Yeah," Cen Xi replied. He had worked late to finish his tasks and rushed back. He had originally planned to go home first to tidy up before heading to the Lin family to get her. But when he got back to the courtyard, he saw the door was unlocked, and through the window, he could see her head down.
This instantly made him happy.
He hurried in from outside and stood in front of Lin Qing, waiting for her to see him.
Lin Qing quickly got up from the recliner and leaped into his arms.
Cen Xi reached out and hugged her, and quickly shielded her.
"Are you happy to see me?"
"Yes, I’m happy, really happy!" Lin Qing openly expressed her happiness.
Cen Xi was also very happy. He had always known that Lin Qing initially agreed to marry him because of his good conditions, but now it seemed she had gradually grown to like him and had placed him in her heart!
How wonderful!
"I missed you too! Very, very much!" Cen Xi held Lin Qing even tighter, as if he wanted to merge her into his very bones.
The two whispered their longing for each other, and Cen Xi carried her into the inner room.
"Brother Nan?"
"I want to kiss you, is that okay?" Cen Xi didn't wait for her answer and kissed her directly.
"Mmm~" Lin Qing wrapped her arms around Cen Xi's neck.
"Open your mouth," Cen Xi whispered as he deepened the kiss, his tongue intertwining with hers.
After what felt like an eternity, Lin Qing patted Cen Xi's arm; she was running out of breath.
"Why haven’t you learned to breathe properly yet?" Cen Xi murmured in her ear.
Lin Qing pretended to be dead and buried her face in his chest.
Cen Xi couldn't help but laugh.
Lin Qing, feeling embarrassed, slapped him lightly!
"Alright, alright, no more laughing."
"Let go of me, I don’t want you holding me anymore!"
"I’m not letting go, no way!"
"Hmph, whatever!"
The young couple started horsing around!
"Hahaha!"
"That tickles, quit it!"
"I’m gonna keep scratching, so there!"
"Hahaha!"
...
After tiring herself out from playing, Lin Qing snuggled into Cen Xi’s arms.
"Anything interesting happen lately?" Cen Xi loved it when Lin Qing shared things from her life with him.
Sometimes, if Lin Qing didn’t speak up, Cen Xi would ask—just like now!
“Yeah! So, listen to this..." Lin Qing shared some of the most memorable things she’d come across!
Like Zhou Qin and Qin Xianglian, the restroom affair, the hidden items in the restroom, and that whole candy-blood fiasco...
"You’ve had quite the week of drama and gossip!" Cen Xi couldn’t help but exclaim!
"Heh, it’s not like I went looking for it—it just fell into my lap!" What was Lin Qing supposed to do?
It wasn’t like she went looking for drama—it just found her!
When it’s right there, it’s hard not to look!
"Next time at night, if I’m not around, try using the bedpan at home instead of going out."
"What? I need to go for number two! How am I supposed to do that at home?"
"It’s fine, just dump it out the next day!"
"No." Lin Qing didn’t want to.
"But it’s not safe to go out at night! You went out once and stumbled on people having an affair—what if you’d been caught?"
What Cen Xi left unsaid was—what if they’d tried to silence you for good?
Lin Qing looked up at Cen Xi’s stern face, her defiance melting away. He seemed upset, and she didn’t dare argue. "Okay, okay, I get it," she relented.
Lin Qing snuggled back into his arms, her mind racing. She decided she’d take care of her business during the day to avoid nighttime urges.
"Yeah, that’ll work!"
Seeing her compliance, Cen Xi softened and praised her, "You did one more thing right!"
Lin Qing looked up, surprised and thrilled—she hadn’t expected praise!
"Seriously, I have to give you credit—you didn’t go snooping when you saw someone hiding something?"
"That's someone else's belongings, how could I possibly snoop through them?" Lin Qing pouted and said disdainfully.
"Exactly! It's someone else's stuff; we shouldn't snoop through it!"
Cen Xi figured that if someone was hiding something in the toilet, it had to be something important, and recently hidden, meaning it was something they had just acquired.
Plus, if they went to such lengths to hide it, it had to be valuable. Lin Qing mentioned it was a parcel, so there must be quite a few things inside. In hard times, gold is king; in good times, antiques are treasures. The stuff in that parcel is probably one or the other!
Regular folks don’t usually have stuff like that, so where did it come from?
Either it’s been handed down from their ancestors, or it was seized by the revolutionary committee!
Even if those things are valuable, folks like us should steer clear to avoid trouble!
It’s a good thing Lin Qing didn’t bring that parcel back out of curiosity!
After all, anyone would guess that something hidden so carefully must be valuable. If someone else saw it, they might not be able to resist!
Lin Qing?
She’s not dumb. She had a pretty good idea what was in that parcel, but as Cen Xi thought, bringing those things home would just bring trouble.
They’re doing fine now; why would they go looking for trouble?
Avoiding trouble starts with keeping your curiosity in check.
"Qing Qing is the best!" Cen Xi kissed Lin Qing on the lips again.
"‘Of course,’ Lin Qing said, lifting her head proudly in his arms."
"You are the best, the most amazing!"
"Hehe!"
