Chapter 251: Getting Serious – Daily Gossip in the Courtyard of the Sickly Young Aunt
by 苓菱子Chapter 251 Getting Real – The Sickly Girl’s Compound Gossip Chronicles
This matchmaking event was huge, with an exceptionally high turnout. Both men and women had a hint of flirtation in their expressions.
Fu Huihui arrived early. Initially, she had only known that several units would be participating, but upon entering, she realized she had vastly underestimated the scale of this event.
Government officials in Zhongshan suits and soldiers in military uniforms—who among them wasn’t a great catch?
She began mingling around, searching for her perfect match. If someone caught her interest, she’d chat for a bit. If they didn’t click after a few exchanges, she’d simply move on to the next.
Fu Huihui was most interested in those from the municipal government. While the military men had hot bods, being a military wife was tough, and she knew she wasn’t cut out for it. So, she avoided that option from the start.
At first, the men and women were somewhat shy, unsure of what topics to discuss. Then, almost as if by unspoken agreement, they all started sharing the wildest gossip from their respective circles.
There was no denying that gossip was a powerful tool for breaking the ice. Everyone could chime in—after all, the scandals from their side were truly crazy!
"Have you ever seen someone swim in a sewage pit?"
"No, never! Really? Heh, well, I have!"
"Wow, seriously?!"
Everyone gasped in shock.
Factory Director Wang, along with leaders from several other units, walked around, noticing how harmonious the event had become.
"Hahaha! You’ve done a great job organizing this matchmaking event! Looks like quite a few couples might form—everyone’s chatting so well!"
Just as Factory Director Wang and his group passed by one young couple—
"You’re serious? That many people actually enjoy swimming in sewage pits?"
"Of course! I’ve seen it with my own eyes."
"Wow! I gotta see this myself someday!"
Factory Director Wang’s eye twitched.
When they passed another young couple, the topic was weirdly similar.
The army political officer clapped Factory Director Wang on the shoulder. "Wang, how come so many interesting things happen in your factory? You never share these stories with us!"
Even the leaders were curious—why hadn’t Wang ever mentioned any of this?
"Yeah, I remember you used to be quite the gossip when you were younger. What happened? Gone soft in your old age?" someone else jumped in.
Director Wang’s face turned red with embarrassment—his past was being exposed right in front of him.
"Come on, tell us!"
Sighing in defeat, Director Wang relented. These old friends of his were relentless—it seemed he had no choice but to spill. He found a relatively empty spot and began sharing the wildest stories.
Had it not been for the fact that others were too intimidated by the group of leaders to approach, Director Wang’s rep might’ve been wrecked.
"No way! Your place is totally insane!"
"Right?!" None of them had ever heard of a sewage pit drawing such a crowd.
"Where’s this sewage pit at? I gotta see this myself!"
Director Wang pressed his lips together. "Well, you're too late. That outhouse already collapsed and got rebuilt. No one’s likely to fall in now."
The others looked bummed hearing that.
Director Wang’s mouth twitched.
"How’d that outhouse just cave in like that?"
"Uh…" Well, not exactly out of nowhere.
Director Wang said mysteriously, "That outhouse just couldn’t take the weight and gave out."
The others perked up—weight? What weight?
Director Wang dropped his voice and explained, "At the time, someone had hidden something in the outhouse, but later, many people thought it was still there, so they all went in to search. With that many folks crammed in, the outhouse just buckled."
"Ah!" They gaped. "Well..." This left them speechless.
"That outhouse really took on more than it could handle!" one leader joked.
"Hahaha!" The others cracked up.
"What kinda treasure was so worth hunting for?" someone else asked.
"Uh…" Director Wang naturally knew what it was and whispered even quieter, "Heard it was stuff seized in a raid."
The others blinked—now they understood why so many people had gone searching.
The military commissar stifled a grin, his eyes sharpening.
...
"Jiaojiao? What brings you here?" Fu Huihui, who had been chatting with a junior government staffer, saw Wang Jiaojiao leading a man in military uniform over.
"Huihui." Jiaojiao flushed a little.
The men shot each other a look before turning away.
"Jiaojiao?"
Jiaojiao pouted. "Dad conned me into tagging along."
"Ah?" Fu Huihui truly hadn't expected that.
"Alright, let's not dwell on that. How’s the setup going?" Jiaojiao really didn’t want to talk about how foolish she’d been tricked and quickly changed the subject.
Huihui turned red right away upon hearing the question, glancing at the young staffer who had been standing beside her earlier, and said softly, "It’s... okay, okay."
Jiaojiao looked at the man beside Fu Huihui—he was clean-cut, with a steady gaze—seemed nice enough.
So, she just gave him a nod, keeping it brief.
"And you? What's your situation now?"
Jiaojiao went red, fumbling for words. She hadn’t planned on looking for a partner, but the man beside her seemed kinda into her, and she was kinda into him.
Huihui smirked and elbowed her, like she got it.
The girls kept gabbing, while the guys just sighed, but made no move to interrupt. After all, if it had just been the two of them alone, things might have been more awkward—now, with more people around, the conversation flowed more naturally.
The soldier introduced himself first, "Hello, my name is Lei Jianfeng."
"Hello, I'm Li Junlin!"
They shook hands amiably.
"It's getting late. How about we head to the government-run diner and chat over a meal?" Li Junlin suggested, glancing at his watch.
"Sure, sounds good."
Then the two men looked at Fu Huihui and Wang Jiaojiao.
"Hmm?" The girls looked puzzled.
Li Junlin smiled and repeated, "Let’s go to the government-run diner."
Fu Huihui and Wang Jiaojiao shared a look and nodded together. Since they were both fairly satisfied with the men beside them, continuing the conversation made sense.
"Alright!"
After agreeing, the four set off. The women walked in front, while the men kept close behind.
Plenty of successful matches left the same way, so their behavior didn’t stand out.
"Hey, Jiaojiao, is that Uncle Zhou from Qing Qing’s neighborhood?" Fu Huihui suddenly spotted a familiar figure ahead.
"Wait, let me see," Wang Jiaojiao stepped forward.
"It really is him!"
They froze for a moment before exchanging glances and exclaimed together, "Is that uncle here on a date too?"
Wow, he’s really doing this!
