Lin Qing carried the medicine she had prepared back to the dormitory, where many had already returned.
"Hongyan, you're back?"
Liu Hongyan nodded. "Lin Qing, what time do you all meet up this afternoon?"
"Two o'clock!"
"I'm also at two. Let’s go together this afternoon then!"
"Sure!"
Though they weren’t headed to the same place, they shared part of the way.
Liu Hongyan noticed the medicine in her hand. "You made medicine?"
"Yeah! I’ll drink it once it’s a little cooler," Lin Qing said with a smile.
"Ah!" Liu Hongyan could tell from her expression that Lin Qing hated taking medicine.
Lin Qing glanced around the dormitory. Almost everyone was back, except for the "her" she had run into by chance earlier.
Even after finishing her medicine, there was still no sign of her. Without waiting further, Lin Qing lay down for a nap.
When she woke up and got down, she noticed an empty bed. Hmm, did she not come back at all?
Lin Qing shook her head and shook it off.
However, heading to the office building, she couldn’t help but ask Liu Hongyan, "Zhang Mengting didn’t come back at noon, did she?"
Yes, the "her" Lin Qing had encountered was Zhang Mengting!
Zhang Mengting’s bed was right below Liu Hongyan’s, so if she had returned, Liu Hongyan would’ve heard her, right?
Liu Hongyan thought for a moment and shook her head. "Guess she didn’t come back."
Lin Qing: "..."
She truly couldn’t understand—are there no other men in the world?
Did she have to go after a taken man?
Lin Qing suddenly felt a bit relieved that her own husband devoted most of his energy to his research and wasn’t as showy like other guys. Otherwise, it would’ve been truly so annoying!
"Why do you suddenly ask about her?"
"Nothing, just wondering."
"Oh!" Liu Hongyan didn’t think much of it.
Soon, they split up.
However, Lin Qing bumped into Zhang Mengting again at the office building. She was coming from the downstairs bathroom—probably just returning from a bathroom break.
The two simply nodded and exchanged quick hellos.
Without lingering, Lin Qing headed upstairs to the large office from the morning.
Quite a few people hadn't shown up yet, so she grabbed a seat and sat down.
After the morning exam, nothing much was happening in the afternoon. They specially brought in an experienced accountant to give them a talk.
This experienced accountant went over some typical cases, and Lin Qing was completely absorbed.
Not only did the experienced accountant give a talk, but he also invited some people in the audience to share cases they had encountered.
This part required people to speak up!
Lin Qing didn't take the initiative. She had only worked for two years and was still pretty green, unlike others who had more experience under their belts.
Sticking to her approach of speaking less and listening more, she focused on learning earnestly.
In another office, five or six people began plowing through fifty-some exams.
Li Yuming slid a test he had graded in the morning into the hands of an elderly man beside him. "Old Liu, check this one out. Is this what you're looking for?"
Old Liu looked at Li Yuming curiously. "What's special about this paper?"
"Nothing, just take a look first!"
"Alright!" Old Liu wouldn't refuse him and immediately started reviewing it.
Seeing the red checkmarks on the paper, Old Liu sat up straight. The accuracy rate was through the roof, with calculations even reaching 100%.
Li Yuming smiled. "What do you think? Pretty good, right?"
"Good, very good!"
Li Yuming then dropped another bombshell. "The person who wrote this paper wrapped up a full hour early."
Old Liu looked at him excitedly. "No kidding?"
"Of course!"
"Excellent! I want this real find!" Old Liu was so thrilled he could hardly be bothered to look at the other papers. This was exactly what he had been searching for.
It must be noted that the exam was carefully designed, loaded with number-crunching. Only someone with solid financial knowledge and strong mathematical skills could achieve such high accuracy.
If not for the urgent situation, they wouldn't have resorted to such unconventional methods.
The suspension of university operations had led to a severe talent shortage. Their research institute urgently needed a group of highly skilled individuals proficient in calculations, forcing them to adopt this approach.
Your average person these days wasn't particularly skilled with the abacus—only professional accountants from various units possessed such abilities.
But they needed more than just abacus experts; they required individuals with a solid mathematical foundation capable of independent calculations. Hence, the morning exam.
Li Yuming was also pleased. At least their efforts hadn't been in vain. "Old Liu, take a look at the others too. There might be more promising candidates!"
"Alright, alright!" Old Liu agreed verbally, but his hands still clutched those few papers, unwilling to let go as he kept reviewing them.
Seeing this, Li Yuming felt a twinge of sadness. With things the way they are, no one had the power to change the broader environment. They could only do what little they could.
This was why he had taken the lead in organizing this event in the first place.
By the afternoon, the five or six people had finished grading all the papers. In the end, just five tests scoring over 85% made it to Old Liu's hands.
Including Lin Qing, they only ended up with six qualified people!
"Is this all?" Old Liu asked uncertainly.
"That's all we've got! The others didn't even reach an 80% accuracy rate."
Old Liu sighed. Nothing more we could do, but at least there was Lin Qing—one bright spot. Otherwise, he would have been truly disappointed!
"Yuming, we'll go with these six! Tomorrow, I'll send someone for them," Old Liu said to Li Yuming.
Li Yuming nodded. "Good! I'll go with them when the time comes."
"That works too! The rest is up to you."
By "the rest," he meant how to explain the whereabouts of the selected candidates to those who weren’t chosen.
Li Yuming agreed. "No problem!"
......
Lin Qing was still completely focused on learning new knowledge, completely unaware that her fate would undergo such a drastic change the next day—one that would change her life forever.
At dinner, Lin Qing didn't have as much luck as at lunch. Fortunately, most employees went home to eat, so the cafeteria in the evening was mostly just outsiders like her.
After finishing her meal, Lin Qing suddenly let out a shocked gasp. "Hiss—" Were these people really so bold?
She saw Zhang Mengting’s beaming smile. The man sitting across from her had his back to Lin Qing, but that didn’t stop her from recognizing who he was.
Still, it wasn’t her business. She didn’t interfere, got up, and got ready to leave, deliberately avoiding that table.
But of course—
Lin Qing truly didn’t know what to say!
Just after running into that pair, she now encountered another one. Seriously, can't these married guys keep it in their pants?
