And so, Lin Shu got to work.
She first went to the city government to ask about a leader named Zhuang. After asking around, she discovered that the leader named Zhuang was the vice mayor. With this information, Lin Shu thought her small job request would be easily fulfilled.
After finding out who the leader named Zhuang was, Lin Shu started to keep an eye on him. After all, it wasn't easy to meet a leader.
So Lin Shu kept watch from morning till night, but she still didn’t get a chance.
It was only yesterday that she finally found a rare chance. Vice Mayor Zhuang wasn't taking his car but was walking to a store to buy something.
Lin Shu stopped him halfway!
Vice Mayor Zhuang thought this woman was odd. Why was she blocking his way?
"Comrade, do you have something to say?"
His sharp look made Lin Shu shiver, "I..."
"Hmm?"
"I... I need to tell you something important, Vice Mayor Zhuang." Lin Shu finally mustered the courage to say.
Vice Mayor Zhuang’s eyes narrowed sharply, "Let’s step over here."
Vice Mayor Zhuang led Lin Shu to a corner, "Now you can speak, go ahead!"
Under his intense stare, Lin Shu stumbled through her explanation.
After hearing her out, Vice Mayor Zhuang’s first thought was disbelief.
How did this woman know he’d been reported?
How did she know he was the leader named Zhuang?
Could it be another leader named Zhuang?
"How do you know the leader named Zhuang is me?"
"It’s you, I checked. You're the only leader named Zhuang in the government."
Vice Mayor Zhuang’s eyes turned cold. She had specifically inquired, could this woman have some ulterior motive?
Was she a spy trying to cause trouble?
Seeing his look, Lin Shu’s heart dropped, knowing things were not going well, "Why don’t you have someone check it out, then you'll know? I just happened to hear it from a classmate."
"Oh? If you just happened to hear it, why did you specifically come to tell me?"
"I..." Lin Shu looked at his cold eyes and suddenly felt a chill run down her spine. She had a feeling that if she lied about this, things might not go her way. So Lin Shu could only honestly state her request, "I’m hoping you can help me get a job."
Hearing this, Vice Mayor Zhuang actually felt relieved. It was normal to have ulterior motives; it would be strange if there were none.
"Alright, in that case, I'll look into it. If it's true, I'll grant your wish." Vice Mayor Zhuang said meaningfully.
Hearing she might finally get a job, Lin Shu was thrilled.
Seeing how visibly happy this woman was, Vice Mayor Zhuang thought that she probably didn't have the guts to lie to him. This meant that what she said might actually be true.
At this thought, he smiled and narrowed his eyes, thinking, "Once I find out who reported me, I'll make sure they pay!"
Lin Shu saw Vice Mayor Zhuang's expression, and her cheerful demeanor instantly froze, followed by a shiver. She suddenly remembered that Vice Mayor Zhuang was not a simple man. What was she thinking, trying to mess with him?
"Well, I've said my piece. I'll be going now."
"Alright, come by tomorrow afternoon after work," Vice Mayor Zhuang said, thinking that by then he should have everything figured out.
"Sure, sure!" Lin Shu thought the same, imagining that by then, she would have the job.
The next day, Lin Shu came to see Vice Mayor Zhuang as agreed, and coincidentally, Mother Jiang and Jiang Da Sao, who had been following her, saw her.
Afraid Lin Shu would spot them, they hurried home to wait, setting the stage for the scene Lin Qing witnessed upon her return.
After Vice Mayor Zhuang investigated, he discovered that the Revolutionary Committee had indeed received a report about him and was planning a surprise inspection soon!
Once he confirmed Lin Shu's story was true, he decided to get her a job as a thank-you. Whatever Lin Shu's motives, she had at least tipped him off.
"I've looked into it, and you were right."
Lin Shu was thrilled to hear this.
"Then..."
"Don't worry, I'll hook you up with a job, just like you asked." Yesterday, he had also looked into this woman and found that she indeed had a classmate working in the Revolutionary Committee, which matched her story. Since the matter turned out to be true, he didn't plan to pursue it further.
"Rest assured, tomorrow I'll have someone take you to the machinery factory to report for work." Yes, the job he lined up for Lin Shu was at the machinery factory. It was a coincidence that someone there was about to retire, and he managed to negotiate for this position.
"Great!" Lin Shu was ecstatic. The job she'd been dreaming of was finally hers.
Vice Mayor Zhuang thought her reaction was pretty normal, especially since he'd found out she'd nearly lost her mind over almost landing a job before. So, her excitement made perfect sense.
The two soon parted ways.
As for why Lin Shu returned so late?
It was because she didn't want to go back early to cook.
She deliberately timed her return to avoid the household chore of cooking.
After all, she was about to start a job. She couldn't be expected to do all these chores all day, could she?
