Chapter 62: Don’t Go Home Yet

"This is called mung bean and kelp porridge," Su He answered, grinning.

    "Wow!"

The kids had never eaten this before, but they all politely played along with an exaggerated "Wow!"

Su He was amused by their over-the-top reactions. She placed spoons she had retrieved from her inventory into each bowl and said, "Everyone take one bowl. It's very hot, so be careful."

The children were obedient, each choosing the bowl closest to them.

Su He had said there was plenty more, and if they weren’t full, they could have seconds, so there was no need to rush.

Shi Tou picked up his spoon to take a bite but remembered Su He’s warning that it was hot. He blew on the spoonful first.

Seeing this, Su He praised him at once. "Good job, Shi Tou! You should all blow gently before eating so it won’t burn you."

Noticing that Shi Tou had earned their mother’s praise, Zai Zai and Niu Niu immediately started blowing on their spoons with all their might, almost blowing the porridge right off their spoons.

Su He couldn’t help but laugh and quickly stopped them.

    "Blow gently."

When Shi Tou took his first bite, his eyes lit up, and he told Su He, "Auntie, this porridge is sweet!"

"That’s right, it is sweet," Su He replied, smiling.

"Wow~" The other kids, hearing that the porridge was sweet, dug right in, forgetting about the heat.

For these kids, even eating sugar was a luxury, so sweet porridge was a real treat.

    Children generally loved anything sweet.

"So yummy, Mama!" Niu Niu said between bites of the mung bean and kelp porridge.

"If you like it, have more. There’s plenty in the pot."

The kids were all enthusiastic about sweets. After finishing their first bowls, each of them went back for small second helpings.

Niu Niu patted her round belly and let out a loud burp.

    "So full."

"Me too, I’m stuffed!" Ya Ya said excitedly.

After the meal, the kids started playing with their new toys in the living room.

Niu Niu and Ya Ya had decorated their hair with clips, and both girls giggled together.

"Niu Niu, you look so pretty," Ya Ya couldn’t help but compliment, admiring Niu Niu’s colorful hair clips.

    "You’re pretty too, Ya Ya!"

The two girls exchanged glances and burst out laughing.

The boys, on the other hand, were far more rambunctious, playing with toy bows and arrows.

"Pew-pew!" With a playful noise, Zhuang Zhuang let his arrow fly.

They were full of energy, having tons of fun.

However, Su He was very safety-conscious—the arrowheads were dipped in glue and couldn’t shoot far.

"Boys, be careful not to shoot anyone," Su He reminded them.

    "We know, Auntie."

By now, Su He had almost surpassed Grandma in the children’s hearts, becoming their second favorite.

There was no helping it—Su He was so gentle and was so nice to them.

Whenever they were noisy or mischievous, she never told them to quiet down and always made delicious food for them.

This time, she even bought them toys.

So, in the minds of the Fu family kids, visiting Auntie’s house was the best.

Zai Zai and Niu Niu were really lucky to have such a wonderful mother.

Of course, Su He didn't know what they were thinking. She had always loved children—as long as they didn’t bully her own two kids, she was happy to be nice to them.

But if she encountered someone like that troublemaker Wang Mutou from the Wang family last time, she wouldn’t hesitate to put that little troublemaker in his place.

It just showed that Su He’s personality was like this—gentle when needed, but tough when needed.

"Mommy, Mommy, look how pretty my hair is with these clips!" Niu Niu rushed up to Su He, her hair full of colorful clips, and asked excitedly.

Seeing her daughter’s hair tied up in a messy, wild look, Su He barely held back a laugh.

"It’s pretty, but Mommy can make it even prettier."

Instead of crushing her daughter’s confidence, Su He went into the room to get a comb and fixed Niu Niu’s hair into a much prettier style.

Ya Ya, watching from the side as her little sister went from pretty to super pretty, couldn’t hide her envy.

"Auntie, can you do my hair like hers?" Ya Ya asked eagerly.

"Of course! After I finish doing Ya Ya’s hair, I’ll do yours," Su He replied with a smile.

And so, after Su He’s magic touch, both girls’ hair looked gorgeous.

"Wow~ Auntie is amazing!" Ya Ya held up a mirror, checking out her new look, completely thrilled.

    Just then, Wu Yanhua returned.

"Su He," she called from the doorway.

When she walked in, she saw Su He holding Ya Ya while doing her hair.

    "Mom."

    "Grandma! Grandma!"

Before Wu Yanhua could even take a closer look at Su He, the other kids instantly crowded around her, calling out excitedly.

"Alright, alright, be good now. Grandma’s here to take you home."

Seeing all the kids gathered around her, Wu Yanhua thought they'd missed her.

To her surprise, Zhuang Zhuang said, "Grandma, I want to play at Aunt Su's house. I don’t want to go home."

"Me too, me too!" Ya Ya, still in Su He's arms, quickly chimed in.

"Aunt Su’s place is fun. I want to stay here."

    "Me too."

The kids were making a ruckus, leaving Wu Yanhua dumbfounded.

She had only been gone for a few hours, and these little troublemakers had already turned traitor, refusing to even go home.

"Zai Zai and Niu Niu have to nap. How are they supposed to sleep with you guys being so loud?" Wu Yanhua said sternly.

"I’ll nap here too—at Aunt Su’s!" Zhuang Zhuang immediately retorted.

Wu Yanhua was fuming at him—this kid had a real stubborn streak.

The same Zhuang Zhuang who behaved so well in front of Su He was actually a total handful at home.

"Mom, don’t worry yet. You must be tired after walking all this way. I set aside some seaweed porridge for you," Su He said with a smile.

Wu Yanhua hadn’t spent much money while out, just grabbing two steamed buns to tide her over.

Now, hearing that Su He had set aside food for her, her heart warmed even more.

Su He went into the kitchen and hauled out a big bowl of mung bean and seaweed porridge, asking, "Mom, would you like to eat inside or outside?"

Wu Yanhua quickly stepped forward to take the bowl and said, "I’ll just eat here."

She then sat down by the door, picked up the porridge, and was about to take a sip when she noticed the porridge was green.

"What kind of porridge is this?"

Before Su He could answer, Zhuang Zhuang, ever the little know-it-all, cut in: "I know, I know! It’s mung bean and seaweed porridge. It’s the best!"

Wu Yanhua gave him the stink eye before picking up her spoon and starting to eat.

It was sweet porridge? The porridge was still slightly warm, slow-cooked till it melted in your mouth, and the more Wu Yanhua ate, the more she liked it.

City folks sure know how to cook—the food was completely different from what they had in the countryside. No wonder these kids didn’t even want to go home.

After Wu Yanhua finished the porridge, she dragged the kids home, no matter how hard they bawled.

"Waaah~ I want to play at Aunt Su’s~" Zhuang Zhuang whined miserably as his grandmother carried him away.

Su He couldn’t bear to see it and said, "How about letting the kids nap here instead? There are two beds, enough for them to sleep."
