Chapter 280: I See ‘Extraordinary’ in You

After Su He and Wen Qing finished cooking, Su He packed up the food for Fu Yanju, asking her to mind the shop while she joined the elders for dinner.
Su Shiming and Chen Waner followed Su He into the car to head home to eat.
Sitting in the car, Su Shiming couldn’t help but remark, "We’re driving for such a short distance?"
"It’s a whole kilometer. Walking would take more than ten minutes," Su He replied with a smile.
When the car pulled up smoothly at the door, they happened to bump into Fu Tinghua, who had just returned from work.
Today had been so busy that he didn’t have a second to spare. After the intern mentioned that Su He had called, Fu Tinghua called back right away, but no one answered.
He had even considered going straight to the shop to find Su He, but he just couldn’t get away.
So, he skipped his lunch break, powered through a stack of reports, and got off early tonight.
Otherwise, he’d still be stuck at the hospital doing overtime paperwork.
"Tinghua, you’re done for the day?"
Fu Tinghua only had eyes for Su He. He was about to step forward and ask why she had called him earlier when Su Shiming approached first.
"Teacher," he said, still used to calling Su Shiming that.
"Ah, hahaha, my boy! I knew I picked right with you. I’m so proud of you!" Su Shiming couldn’t contain himself the moment he saw Fu Tinghua.
The more he looked at Fu Tinghua, the more satisfied he felt.
Not only was he his star student, but now he was also his son-in-law.
"You’re too kind, Teacher."
While responding to Su Shiming, Fu Tinghua kept glancing over at Su He.
When their eyes met, Su He gave him a playful wink.
"Dad, Tinghua has to be hungry. Let’s go inside and eat while we talk."
Seeing that Su Shiming was about to go off on a long tangent directed at Fu Tinghua, Su He quickly intervened.
Fu Tinghua turned to look at Su He and gave her a gentle smile.
"Ah, right, right! No starving our Tinghua. Come on, let’s go. You don’t have to go back to the hospital tonight, do you?" Su Shiming asked again.
"No."
"That’s great! Let’s have a drink or two with me, your teacher."
With that, the group headed inside together.
Wen Qing was making sure Zai Zai and Niu Niu ate. The adults could eat later, but Wen Qing didn’t want her grandchildren to go hungry, so she fed them first.
Suddenly, she heard Su Shiming and Fu Tinghua talking outside.
Her son-in-law was back from work? Wen Qing immediately hurried out of the kitchen to welcome them.
"Mom," Fu Tinghua said as soon as he saw Wen Qing.
"Hey, Ting Hua, hungry? Food's ready—come inside." After saying this, Wen Qing quickly went to serve the meal.
Su He looked at Zai Zai and Niu Niu, their faces already messy from eating, and couldn’t help but chuckle.
"Wan Er, sit next to your little brother and sister." Su He quickly had Chen Waner take a seat, worried she might feel shy.
The family ate, laughing and chatting, full of joy.
"Ting Hua—do you know why I knew you were the one right away back then? Really, I saw something 'extraordinary' in you. That’s why I insisted on making sure you could study. And look how it turned out... I was spot-on."
Su Shiming was a bit tipsy, slurring his words.
"Mom, why don’t you stay over tonight? Everything’s ready, no need to prepare anything." Su He leaned closer to Wen Qing and whispered.
"Ah, I know. Your dad is practically dying to chat with Ting Hua all night. I’ll drag him to bed later—your son-in-law’s got work in the morning." Though Wen Qing’s words sounded a bit complaining, she couldn’t hide her smile.
"Mhm, it’s fine. Ting Hua didn’t drink much." Su He knew Fu Tinghua’s alcohol tolerance was decent.
But she wasn’t the same—or rather, this body of hers couldn’t hold its liquor.
After Wen Qing and Su He finished bathing Zai Zai and Niu Niu, they saw Fu Tinghua supporting the drunken Su Shiming as they headed upstairs.
Wen Qing immediately followed them.
Niu Niu was in Su He’s arms, just out of the bath, all clean and sweet-smelling.
Zai Zai had bathed earlier and was already in bed.
"Mommy, what’s wrong with Grandpa?" she asked anxiously.
"He’s just sleeping it off. He’ll be okay by morning." Su He comforted her daughter before carrying her to bed as well.
"You two, be good and go to sleep, alright?" Su He gave Zai Zai and Niu Niu a stern look.
"'Kay, Mommy," Niu Niu chirped.
She was the troublemaker. Last time when Su He came back from closing the shop and checked on the kids, she found Niu Niu still awake, fidgeting with her Barbie.
"Mhm, Mommy’s gotta help Auntie shut the store. Be good, alright?"
After giving her instructions, Su He left the children’s room.
As soon as she closed the door, she turned and saw Fu Tinghua lounging against the stairway wall, smirking at her, arms folded.
"Were you waiting for me?" Su He asked softly.
"Mhm. Let’s go." Fu Tinghua replied.
"How did you know I was going to the shop?" Su He raised an eyebrow.
"You’d never trust my sister to lock up by herself."
As he spoke, Fu Tinghua had already walked up to her and took her hand.
Well, typical Dr. Fu—with his psych background, he had her pegged.
They took the car. It was late, and after a full day, neither was up for walking that far.
It's nearly a three-kilometer round trip to the store.
"It's so convenient to have a car," Su He couldn't help remarking.
"Yeah, when we have more money, we'll buy another one," Fu Tinghua said, having no doubts about Su He's earning ability.
He didn't feel that his wife's earning power threatened his masculinity in any way.
"Good, I'll definitely buy another one then," Su He replied with a smile.
It was already almost nine o'clock, and there weren't many people in the store—just a couple of customers left.
"Su He, Ting Hua," Fu Yanju greeted them cheerfully when she spotted them.
"Fourth Sister, let's count up the money and then lock up and head home."
This time, she didn't ask Fu Yanju to leave first, since it was so late.
"Alright, sounds good."
The three of them counted the money together. Because they had sold a lot of discounted durians today, the store's revenue had hit its daily peak of a thousand again.
"Let's get going, time to head back."
As soon as the money was counted, Su He immediately urged the two of them to hurry home.
On the way back in the car, Su He carefully asked Fu Yanju,
"Fourth Sister, is it tough raising Wan Er by yourself?" She didn't ask directly but brought it up carefully.
But after this trip back, with Wu Yanhua dropping hints about urging her to remarry, Fu Yanju certainly got the message.
